Story Overview:

Set in a fictional medieval land, the story begins as you emerge from nine years of oppression. Though victorious, the town bears the deep scars of battle. As one of the heroes who helped secure their freedom, you are entrusted with a gift from the new King — your very own farmstead.

Beyond the farm, the townsfolk all carry the weight of their own challenges. From broken homes to lost kin — It is up to you to shape the bonds you form and help restore the lives of those around you. Hope has stirred at last, and the time has come to rebuild.

Tutorial Free

There are no hand-holding tutorials or lengthy introductions. From the moment you arrive, the world is yours to explore.

The game assumes a basic understanding of survival mechanics. Experiment with the environment, hunt for food, gather resources, interact with objects to discover how the world works through exploration and curiosity rather than scripted lessons.

You decide your own path. Explore abandoned houses, hunt dangerous bandits, build relationships within the community, uncover hidden secrets, or simply farm, craft, build and survive.

A daily noticeboard also provides rumours, clues, and opportunities, offering direction without taking away your freedom to choose what comes next.

Your adventure begins the moment you step into the world. What happens after that is entirely up to you.

Farming

You won’t start out with much, given just a few seeds to grow and some rusty old tools, you'll have to grind to start earning income. All whilst balancing the effort to replenish your energy with whatever food you can find off the land to eat and getting in those early nights to avoid exhaustion and late morning rises.

Crafting

Your farmstead is abundant with natural resources. Wood, Fibre, Stone and more as you explore the region. Collect these resources to craft better tools and equipment to progress and thrive. You'll be able to craft basic items on your person, but you'll need to build workstations for larger equipment. As you progress, the same workstations can be upgraded to unlock more equipment. Finer quality tools, weapons and armour will become available to you as you progress to find those rarer materials in the local mines, caves and old derelict strongholds — once belonging to the old regime.

The Town:

Beyond the farm, the townsfolk all carry the weight of their own challenges. From broken homes to lost kin — It is up to you to shape the bonds you form and help restore the lives of those around you. Be it quests from the King, individual burdens to mend, or merely a kind deed. The town is where you'll find market stalls, the tavern and local events to keep up appearances and work on those neighborly relations. Building relationships will help you strengthen your community bond. If you’re kind, you’ll be rewarded.

The Quests:

Soon after you’ve settled down, you’ll be able to take on quests from the King and the townsfolk. These quests will help you progress, earn rewards and build relationships. No tasks are mandatory, it’s up to you to decide the pace of your journey. If you do decide to explore, be steadfast, my friend—for in distant strongholds, the old king’s loyalists endure, holding our nobles captive in shadowed, crumbling cells. And across the land, poverty clings to the forgotten —a harsh reminder that the fight for reform is not over, and the true victory is still ours to win.

    🛠️ DEMO UPDATE - 1.0.40926.2

It’s been a month since we launched the demo, and what we have for you today is the result of a busy few weeks spent overhauling the game’s graphics and pixel art, alongside a number of key fixes and improvements.Weather- Loading a rainy save no longer makes you wet while you are still indoors.- Abandoned and bandit houses now properly count as shelter, so you dry off inside and only get wet again when you step back into rain.Bandits and Combat- Already-angry bandits can follow you through doors and keep chasing you inside houses for a short time.- Outdoor bandits can hear heavy impacts again when both they and you are outside.- Sword swings near bandits hit the bandit first instead of being wasted on grass, brambles, or clutter.- Arrows now travel a slight curved flight arc when fired while still hitting the same straight path.- Equipment bar controls no longer interfere with pause-menu navigation.Farming- Crops now grow correctly when planted into soil that was already watered.- Overnight crop growth properly counts the day a crop was planted.- Empty dug farm tiles have a chance to revert to normal ground each night, and unused soil is fully cleared between seasons.- Watering cans only drain energy when a tile is successfully watered.- Compost heap no longer marks itself as changed when nothing has actually happened.Sales- Sales Chests no longer duplicate or lose money when you open and close them or remove items before sleeping.- A live total now shows how much a Sales Chest will earn if the player has unlocked the merchant skillCrafting, Controls and UI- Basic Crafting now warns you on focus or hover when you are missing ingredients.- A single Use press can no longer accidentally trigger several nearby interactions at once.- Held items above the player should now display at the right size for each item.- Lifted items appear the same size as when they are dropped on the ground.- Quick alert pop-ups now last 4 seconds instead of 5.- Fixed controller navigation of ...

    Summer Development Update

Today I am excited to share our Summer Development Update for Kingdom of Hope!Since the Spring update, development has continued to accelerate, with a wealth of new features now in place. Altogether, they're helping shape a deeper, richer experience. As always, please remember that this is still a work in progress. Art, music, balance, and systems may change as development continues - the eager eye may have already spotted some art style reworks! As a dream solo project, the goal for me remains unchanged: build a world that feels magical, cosy, and full of discovery - where you can farm, craft, explore, fight, trade, and uncover stories at your own pace.Lately, a lot of work has gone into exploration and discovery, giving combat and skills more depth, and tying survival, seasons, and equipment together - so your choices actually matter when it comes to what you wear, your crafting priorities and how you prepare before heading out.ExplorationMulti-Floor Mining — Venture deeper through mines via ladders, discovering new ore deposits generated on each floor.Volcano — A major new area with lava hazards and tougher enemies, but a greater chance that you'll be rewarded with rarer items. You'll need volcano-suitable clothing.Beach & Pier — A full coastal area with swimming, wave effects, sand digging, buried treasure, a pier to walk out over the water and... a secret to explore.Combat, Stealth & SkillsPerfect Parry Skill — Timing-based combat: block at the right moment to parry attacks and stun your enemies. Stealth — Hide in large fibre/grass clumps to sneak past heavily occupied enemy areas, or if you don't feel like combat. Enemies cannot spot you if enough of your body is concealed — but noise and already-alerted enemies won't be fooled by this.Skill Tree — Unlocks like Stealth (concealment), Weather Forecast readings, Perfect Parry and more.Bandit Combat Overhaul — Line-of-sight checks, dizzy/stunned reactions to arrows and parries, and smarter movement.Bow & Arrow — Th...

This is the very first Steam update, so I wanted to start things properly and give you an early look at how the game is coming together — including a big reveal: our first developer playtest!Game Development ProgressFor the past 8 months the game has been in active development as a solo project, with new systems, mechanics, and world details being added almost daily. The goal is simple: build a world that feels magical, cosy, and full of discovery, where players can explore the kingdom at their own pace and uncover its stories.I am aiming to participate in an upcoming Steam Next Fest this year, but before that I wanted to reveal the first of many developer gameplay play-tests. It offers an early glimpse into the systems and gameplay currently being built. Please remember that this is still a work in progress. Many elements — including art, music, and gameplay systems — may change as development continues. As for the release date, I'm not ready to share that one just yet… but it is coming soon!Development has been moving quickly, and new ideas often emerge naturally during the process. Whenever something feels right for the world or story, it tends to find its way into the game. The goal is to make Kingdom of Hope as rich, immersive, and story-driven as possible.Developer Playtest - It's Here!Recent Development HighlightsDecember 2025Seed Machine – convert harvested crops into seedsAlchemy Table - used to craft potions and other mystical brewsWood Carving Table -used to craft wooden items such as bowls and other household itemsClay Oven - for producing clay items such as storage and fermentation jarsAdvanced Furnace - for Iron, Steel and Glass productionCharcoal Mound - for charcoal production Watering Can – can now refill from additional locations/fishing spotsChicken Coop Events – various events can occur depending on how you manage and interact with your chickens on the far...
