Devlog #4 They Notice You
The Little Details That Bring Our Characters To LifeWe've been working on something pretty simple lately: teaching our characters how to look at people. 🙃Because apparently, having a bunch of people in an office who completely ignore you isn't very convincing. So, we've added head and eye tracking to our characters. Get close enough to someone and they'll notice you. If they're sitting at their desk working, they'll look up, turn their head, and focus on you. For a moment, you're the most interesting thing in the office. And then they wait.Maybe you're about to say something. Maybe you need something. Or maybe you're just standing there awkwardly. If you don't start a conversation, they'll eventually decide you're not going to say anything and get back to work. But they won't completely forget about you. We've also made these reactions work while you're moving around the office. When you pass someone in the hallway, you might catch their eyes for a moment before they go back to whatever they were doing. There's no dialogue trigger or scripted scene behind these moments. It's just the characters reacting to where you are and what they're doing. It's a small thing, but these little interactions make a surprisingly big difference. We're trying to make the office feel like a place where people actually have their own lives — not a room full of NPCs patiently waiting for you to press the dialogue button.Wishlist Happy HourYour support means a lot to us. Devlog #3 Animations & Rigging
Inside Character Animation and RiggingCharacters don’t just cycle through scripts; every movement is designed to be responsive and react naturally to your actions. Fluid transitions and dynamic feedback ensure that the weight and physical interaction of each character are felt directly in the gameplay. With a custom rigging system tailored to different body types, every character possesses its own unique gait and physical presence. This approach ensures that characters aren't just visually distinct, but move with a consistent and believable sense of weight and personality. A character’s personality is found in the subtle nuances of their expressions and real-time mimics. Our facial animation system allows characters to react dynamically to their environment, interactions, and current emotional state. From subtle eye-tracking to nuanced smiles, every detail is meticulously tuned to reflect the character's intent and mood naturally to the player.By moving away from static faces and implementing shifting expressions that adapt to the context, we’ve strengthened the sense that these characters are truly "alive." Each character possesses its own unique flair and expressive style that stays true to its personality and physical design. This approach ensures that every interaction isn't just a visual detail, but a more believable and satisfying character-driven experience.Wishlist Happy HourYour support means a lot to us.
