About this game
Tomo Jam
Turn your controller into a real musical instrument.
Tomo Jam is a rhythm game where every button press plays a real note. Jump into built-in songs right away or instantly import custom MIDI to expand the experience with your own music. Play solo, in local couch co-op, or online in jam sessions with players around the world.
There are no failure states. You can always finish the song, even if your score takes a hit, making Tomo Jam easy to enjoy as a beginner and rewarding to master over time.
A Rhythm Game Built for Performance
In Tomo Jam, the chart gives you the structure, but your inputs shape how the performance feels.
Every press produces sound instantly, so your timing, accuracy, and recovery all become part of the music. Stay on-chart, handle mistakes, and take advantage of improv sections to make each run feel dynamic and alive.
Solo, Couch Co-Op, and Online Jam Sessions
Play alone, with up to 4 players locally, or online with up to 16 players in jam sessions.
Each player chooses their own instrument and difficulty independently, while unselectedd parts are handled by the backing arrangement so the song still comes together as a full performance. Whether you want focused solo play, local chaos with friends, or online sessions with players around the world, Tomo Jam supports all three.
Built-In Songs and Instant Custom MIDI
Tomo Jam includes built-in music so you can jump in immediately, but one of its biggest strengths is custom MIDI support.
Import your own MIDI files and start playing almost instantly. Songs are mapped automatically, making it easy to explore everything from pack-in music to your own compositions and custom song libraries without manually charting every note.
This gives Tomo Jam massive replayability and lets you keep expanding the game with music you want to perform.
No Failure States, Multiple Ways to Play
Tomo Jam is designed to be approachable without losing depth.
You can always complete a song, which makes it easy to learn, experiment, and enjoy the performance even when things get messy. At the same time, multiple difficulty modes let you gradually take on more of the music as your skill grows.
Novice keeps things simple and easy to pick up
Amateur adds more range while staying approachable
Pro demands stronger timing and control
Master opens up the most expressive and demanding layouts
Whether you want a relaxed jam or a serious score chase, Tomo Jam gives you room to play at your own level.
Improvise, Recover, and Make It Your Own
Tomo Jam is built around performance, not just strict repetition.
Some sections allow full improvisation, while fast ornamental phrases are transformed into playable note patterns that still feel musical on a controller. Misses do not stop the song, and recovery becomes part of the experience rather than the end of it.
That combination of structure and freedom gives Tomo Jam a different feel from traditional tap-along rhythm games.
Built for Expression and Replayability
Tomo Jam is a rhythm game for players who want more than a pass/fail chart.
With built-in music, instant custom MIDI support, multiple difficulty modes, local and online multiplayer, and a performance-driven design, Tomo Jam gives you a flexible and immensely satisfying rhythm playground.
Whether you want to improve your scores, explore custom songs, jam with friends, or just make a joyful mess of a track, Tomo Jam lets you play music your way.

v0.319 Crowd, all-star update, audio fixes, and world tour progress
The Crowd Showed UpSolo play now has a little audience.Keep a combo going and people start filing in on both sides of the stage. The better you play, the more of them show up! They hop on the beat, and when you hit an improv stretch the whole crowd comes out. This is single player only for now (no local multiplayer or online), so it's just you and whoever you've earned.All-Star Follow-UpsI've started teaching All-Star the intended melody on official songs, a primary lead, plus a backup part for when that melody rests instead of leaving every pick to the automatic guess.A first batch is tagged: Ave Maria, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Spooky House, and Summertime Flowers. Most of the other pack in songs were already ok. Custom MIDIs still use the automatic picker, same as before.All-Star also reads a little cleaner around the edges:During a song and on the results screen, you'll see All-Star instead of a single instrument name. The song-select leaderboard in All-Star is the All-Star board for that song and difficulty — hovering different parts no longer swaps it.Scores: Band Mode boards are unchanged. All-Star leaderboards are now their own song-and-difficulty boards, tied to the current All-Star chart, so you'll see a fresh All-Star board as these charts settle in.Fixes and ChangesThe Menu Voices and Gameplay Voices sliders in Options now actually change how loud the announcer is (they were getting flattened in the mix).Ornaments now get the same natural note-release tail as regular hits, so those little extra notes don't cut off as abruptly.World Tour ProgressI posted Dev Log #2 this week going over some of the world tour progress. Lots of core systems are now in place including saving/loading, rewards for task completion, calendar system, and tutorials for the first few show types. We're inching closer and closer to the Act 1 demo which I'm targeting to release within the next few months! Currently in the process of hiring an artist to replace the placeholder on...Read full article on Community Announcements (Fraz)AnnouncementsOfficial
v0.318 Improved online, improved All-Star, and updates to World Tour mode
All-Star TweaksAll-Star's been getting a lot of play, so this pass is about making the handoffs easier to read, song selection reflecting the proper heat, and overall tweaks to which instruments are chosen during All-Star play. It's still what I'd consider experimental so Jam Rating is still turned off for All-Star mode. You'll now see a swap marker on the lane before a handoff, with the incoming instrument, so the change isn't a surprise. The auto-picks are steadier: better about staying on the tune, and swapping at natural breaks instead of jumping around.Song Select - Snappier, ClearerBrowsing and hovering songs should hitch less.Every song button now shows how many playable parts it has, so you can tell a duo from a full band at a glance.Fixed the BPM readout on songs with dummy lead-in bars - the number you see is the real tempo.Hear Yourself Online BetterIn online play, your instrument sits in front of the mix so you can actually hear what you're playing instead of getting buried under the rest of the band.Fixes and ChangesOrnaments (trills, runs, and the like) now behave correctly on songs that change tempo mid-track.An issue allowing songs to have long tails of silence at the end of songs has been fixedMetadata editor additionsThe metadata editor packaged in your install folder /Tools/ has been updated! You can now batch edit files by copying data from one then pasting that data to multiple other files. This is helpful if you have a large library of songs that share the same genre, sub-genre, or authorYou can batch swap genre and sub-genre of songs using the right click context menuWorld Tour ProgressLast week I shared an update to the work I've been doing with the single player "World Tour" mode. Check out that devlog here! I will try to post a devlog on the non-patch weeks to keep the community appraised on all the good stuff to expect in World Tour!As always, keep jammin~Frank, Restless GamesRead full article on Community Announcements (Fraz)AnnouncementsOfficial
v0.317 - 25 New Songs Added! Info updates, Experimental All-Star mode and more!
New Songs - Maoudamashii PackA big batch of new tracks is in: 24 game-style songs from Maoudamashii (battles, towns, fields, dungeons, castles, bosses, and more), plus Shining Tomorrow, an original track by yours truly in a JPOP style with a clear duet.Plenty of fresh charts!Check out more from Maoudamashii over on their website:(Japanese) 魔王魂 | 無料で使える森田交一の音楽All-Star Mode (highly experimental)All-Star is a new (single player only) experimental way to play: instead of picking one instrument for the whole song, TomoJam keeps you playing by filling the quiet stretches so you're not sitting through dead air.The game auto-picks which part you perform and can hand you a new instrument when the arrangement moves on, at natural phrase breaks.Toggle All-Star ↔ Band Mode with Left Stick Click (L3) on song select.All-Star has its own scores per song (separate from per-instrument Band Mode charts).Jam rating will not be affected by All-Star mode plays yet.Song buttons show All-Star Heat, note counts, grades, and Jam Rating so you can see what you're getting into before you dive in.Works with the official library and with custom MIDIs - the whole point is it should feel good on whatever you throw at it.That being said, All-Star Mode is very much an experimental mode as it stands. This will require a lot of tweaking to get it right, so have fun with it for now, but know this system will be extremely volatile in terms of changes over time. Song Button Expansion - Multiple GenresThe song button got an upgrade. Now authors can attach 2 genres to a song for better classification. More genres will be added over time, so please reach out if you feel anything is missing.Currently classified songs are unaffected, if only 1 genre is set, only 1 will appearThis also affects the venue mode in setlist builder. Sub-genres are taken into account albeit at a lower weight than main genresAs part of this the Tomo Jam Metadata Editor was also updated to support multiple genres. It is available in ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Fraz)Patch NotesOfficial
v0.316 - New song, audio overhaul, more polish, bug fixes
New Song Added - "Summertime Flowers"A brand new original song has been added to the bundled song list. This one gives the vibes of running through a field of flowers in the summer, or maybe having a picnic, or, I dunno, just summer vibes in general I guess? check it out!Between the Notes, UnlockedYour instrument is no longer locked to it's difficulty between notes. I've added Free Play controls across every difficulty: outside the scored note windows, your instrument now responds as if it's in master mode, so all notes, octaves, and sharps are available! You can warm up, noodle, and jam whenever you feel like it - not only when a note is in front of you.A Richer, Truer Sound with more accurate note mappingThree upgrades make instruments sound fuller, make playing more accurate and comfortable, and closer to how each song was written. The game now captures MIDI volume/dynamics (CC7) data, so swells and softer passages come through the way the track was authored - a much more accurate performance.Playable and backing instruments - and song previews - now get a natural note-release tail, a subtle reverb-like decay instead of an abrupt cutoff.Note mapping has undergone a slight change in its holistic feel to make songs more intuitive to play. You may notice a difference if you're playing on master mode that notes require slightly less use of modifiers (L/R buttons). This cascades down to all other modes however Master mode is the heaviest impact. This should result in a much cleaner map overall.Song Select Glow-UpBrowsing your library is a nicer place to hang out now.New ambient background music on the song-selection screen.Polished menu treatment and animations on the online menu.A global pause control for song previews.Fixes and ChangesYou can now skip the Jam Rating results reveal to jump ahead faster after a song is finished.Fixed an issue with online jam sessions sometimes not playing the "join" sound for the hostFixed an issue with online jam sessions sometimes no...Read full article on Community Announcements (Fraz)Patch NotesOfficial
