Explore a roguelike world inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh! as you strategize and fuse creatures to outmaneuver foes. Soulsworn challenges you to think creatively with no limits on your deck building in an engaging indie experience.

About this game

A roguelike deckbuilder inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh! classic games such as Forbidden Memories, Tag Force, and the World Championship series. In Soulsworn, you create a deck of powerful Souls to lead a rebellion out of hell.

You can create completely new cards each run. Customize the artwork, combine effects into combo pieces, defensive tools, or crazy payoffs that fit your deck. If your strategy is missing just one piece, you can make it yourself!

You have 2 fusions per turn. Combine any two monsters to forge a new, more powerful monster. A noble knight and a demonic beast? A mythical hydra and a clockwork golem? Your knowledge and creativity can turn a losing battle into a victory.

Duels are short, explosive, and built around big turns. Summon freely, fuse your monsters, chain effects, and turn a simple hand into a full combo before the enemy can recover. Every fight is a puzzle: find the line, break their board, and push for lethal.

Discover hidden Fusion monsters, build around their effects, and use them as stepping stones toward even stronger plays. Ritual Monsters are rare, powerful cards that can define your strategy and turn a normal deck into something completely broken.

✅ What Soulsworn IS

  • A love letter to old-school Yu-Gi-Oh!: No mana, no summon limit, no 8-paragraph card text. Just big monsters, broken combos, and dramatic comebacks.

  • A fast roguelike deckbuilder: Short duels, explosive turns, and runs built around finding combos.

  • A game about creativity: Build custom cards, chase greedy ideas, make meme strategies, and see how far your deck can go.

❌ What Soulsworn IS NOT

  • Not a carbon copy of Yu-Gi-Oh!: Heavily inspired, but it has its own rules and monsters. Also: no floodgates or Maxx "C".

  • Not a story-heavy RPG: There is lore and flavor, but the focus is on runs, deckbuilding, combos, and duels.

  • Not a multiplayer game.

💡 Features

  • Create custom cards with your own effects and artwork

  • Hundreds of cards to draft and master

  • Draft a unique deck every run

  • Tactical boss encounters with telegraphed moves

  • Procedurally generated runs through 6 stages

The Quality of Life Update + New Rituals Enter the Fray!

Hi all!!I've been working hard on new content for a couple of months now, but for this update I decided to focus on actually getting through the backlog of QoL requests and actually implement most of them. I've also managed to throw in 2 new very powerful Rituals that I have been cooking for a while!Let's go over the most important new settings first. They're available under the "Settings" menu.Animation SpeedSoulsworn is intended to be a fast-paced game. I want combat to feel fast and runs to be as smooth as possible, so the new Animation Speed lets you control exactly how fast you prefer your game. Regardless of which animation speed you prefer, you can click to skip any of the longer animations (fusions, coin flips, etc). Here's an example of the new "Very Fast" animation speed:Mouse-Only ModeFor folks who prefer to use only the mouse to play, you can enable "Mouse-Only" under the Controls section of the setting menu. When enabled, you can perform all actions in the game using only the mouse's left and right click. There's also a little bonus for everyone, regardless of the control scheme you prefer: Chimerizing now shows a wheel so you can select any Origin instead of having to go through them one by one!New RitualsThis update also introduces some of the most powerful cards in the game!Deus Ex MachinaHe's a machine god with a crazy effect: While he's on the field, you can perform any number of Fusions during your turn. There's probably a way to go infinite, and I can't wait to see you share your Deus Ex Machina combos! To summon him, look out for the Machina Ritual, which is unlocked as a battle reward after you complete a 10.000 Lifetime Score Milestone.Masked BeastThe Masked Beast is a Snake lady with two unique effects: While on the field, you decide the outcome of all coin flips. This means Beasts can play to their full potential without risking the downsides! She's not exclusive for Beast decks, though: she has herself a coin flip effect which allows her to co...

Unlock new Spell and Trap cards with Milestones!

I've been working hard to implement some of the most requested changes to the game. The main one I'm excited to share today is: more Spell and Trap cards are now available for advanced players! If you've played the game before, you may remember that at the end of the draft phase, you have to choose 2 Hexes to round up your deck. These used to always be the same, but now the game will introduce more complex card types as you play. For the first time, you'll be able to draft Hexes, Chants, and even Pacts too!The way to unlock them is through the new Milestones system, which are small challenges you can perform as you play. In this version of the demo there are 10 Milestones, each with a new unlockable card. More Milestones will be added in future updates!Another very important change in this update: the Ascension 1 encounters have been rebalanced. Previously, the AI would play Pact cards that were very tricky to deal with, since there aren't many cards that can interact with them. I moved the threat away from the backrow and into the enemy Souls themselves, so now you have way more options to interact with their boards, either through battle, removal, or status effects.(The previous Pacts will be reintroduced later for Challenge modes! Of course, you'll also have more ways to deal with them too.)As always, thank you for supporting the game! We're still a long way away from release, but I'm very glad I get to share everything I'm doing with you and I'm always happy to hear your feedback. Here are the full patch notes:Soulsworn Demo v0.2.51New Progression System: MilestonesAdded Milestones, in-game challenges that unlock new cards.Milestone progress and rewards are shown in the Milestones screen and at the end of each run.Added 6 new Hexes, Chants, and Treacheries unlocked through Milestones. Once unlocked, they can appear during the draft phase.New & Updated EncountersAdded Not So Fast, replacing Miasma.Added A Little Boost, replacing Rising Strength.Added The Runt and T...

The Custom Cards update is live in the demo!

I get so many requests for cards every day that there's no way I can implement all of them, so with this update I'm giving you everything you need to create your own custom cards! This was a massive update that took quite a bit longer than regular updates, but it's an entirely new system that will be expanded over time. Please try it out and let me know what you think! How Custom Cards workYou'll now be offered the option to create a custom card as one of the 3 offered card rewards. You can customize the artwork with any colors you'd like. Soon, you'll also be able to upload and use any artwork! Each custom card has a certain amount of Ink to spend on its Power and Effects. Adding more Power and better effects spends more Ink, but adding Costs and Conditions will help you recover.New artworks, triggers, effects, conditions and costs will be added over time to expand even more the kinds of cards you can create.Hope you have fun creating your own cards, and don't forget to share them on our Discord! https://discord.gg/UN6KtRe8ENHere are the full patch notes for this update:New Feature: Custom Cards- A Custom Card reward is always available in the first duel of each Expedition. More custom card rewards appear randomly throughout the Expedition.Quality of Life- You can now click during summon animations to skip the animation. -- thanks @arkwyldeGame Balance- Nerfed Ghost Imp to take damage when attacked, but not when attacking - thanks @shurkou- Nerfed Ascension 1 Vexing Imp encounter to prepare one Treachery on its first turn and none on later turns.Bugfixes & Other Updates- Fixed the "fusions performed" screen not showing the Lovers Entwined fusion.- Fixed fusion previews to display the complete card artwork- Renamed Runic Guardian to Runic Gardna- Moved the feedback shortcut to F1 to avoid conflicts while you're typing your custom card name

Reunite Dante & Beatrice in the latest Demo update

One of the most requested features for the longest time has been updating and adding the in-game story events. With the latest update, I'm adding 2 new events:A Rebel's SacrificeThis is the first time you're able to heal, but at a terrible cost: you must leave one of your Souls behind. The Red Rose VanguardBeatrice is a brave knight that charges into battle the moment she's summoned. She can join the rebellion, as long as you're willing to help her find Dante. She also has an exclusive fusion with Dante -- check it out on your next run!Quality of Life updatesThis update also introduces a new "Check field" mode that can be entered at any moment during your or your opponent's turn. When in that mode, you can check the field freely, as well as any cards in your hand or in limbo. No more wondering what that trap card did!New help guidesI've heard some feedback that the game is confusing, so I added optional in-game guides. I really, really don't want to add any more mandatory tutorials, so I'm hoping this helps players who aren't very familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh mechanics. Please let me know if there's any extra info missing from these guides!A thank you noteI'm wishing a sincere thank you to Daiya Beatus, who played the game on stream last week! In case you missed it, here's the VOD.Here are the complete patch notes:Soulsworn v0.2.29New content(New Event) Added "The Red Rose Vanguard": Help Beatrice and Dante reunite!(New Card) Added Beatrice, the Vanguard.(New Fusion) Added Lovers Entwined.(New Event) A Rebel's Sacrifice. Ascensions are now available in the demo

One of the most common things I hear from demo players is that the AI encounters don't put up much of a challenge. This is intentional! I tuned down the difficulty for the first few duels so players can figure out the mechanics and learn about the fusion system without long tutorials. However, once you beat the boss once, you unlock Ascension I, and that's where the challenge begins. There are 3 available ascensions, and each of them introduces a modifier that makes the game significantly harder. Enemies have more health, activate more traps, and force you to figure out more complex lines to OTK or to just survive! Each Ascension you beat will also unlock a new card reward that can be drafted in following runs. I've designed these so you have more options to interact with some mechanics that are more common in higher Ascensions like enemy buffs, face down cards and pacts. The Ascensions are available from version 0.2.18 onwards, on both the Playtest and Demo editions. If you have any feedback or suggestions, say hi in the Discord! https://discord.gg/9VCXeZXmtu
