In Beatrix, deploy Canons to shape the battlefield and surround enemies. Judge souls in this challenging indie strategy game that restores order to Hell through tactical positioning.

About this game

Hell is in a state of unrefined chaos. As Beatrix, you have been summoned to the Circles of Hell to uncover an anomaly rotting the afterlife. To restore order—or dismantle it entirely—you must master the Psychomachia ("battle of the soul"), craft a lethal build of Canones ("Canons")—powerful effects that alter your battlefield—and survive a descent into the frozen heart of Treachery.

Enhance traditional deckbuilding with the Canones ("Canons") System, a deep board-build strategy. Canones ("Canons") are persistent effects deployed at the start of battle to redefine how the board functions. By selecting a starting Genius archetype and collecting rare Reliquiae ("Relics"), you can layer these effects to trigger massive chain reactions. Whether you're enhancing card values or automating Regiones ("Regions") conquest, success depends on your ability to build a board-wide strategy that works for you.

Inspired by the spatial logic of Triple Triad and Othello, every card placement is a high-stakes bid for territory. Encircle your enemies horizontally, vertically, or diagonally to initiate a Card Clash, testing your cards’ Potentia ("Power") against the damned and Custos ("Guardians"). Win the confrontation to flip enemy units to your side, using their own strength to seize control of the board. A single clever move can turn a crushing defeat into a total takeover of the field.

Your journey through the Circles of Hell is a reactive experience where your decisions physically alter your power. Encounter a cast of eerie NPCs and grotesque Bosses rendered in a striking, dark-eerie aesthetic. Upon defeating the Custos ("Guardians") of Hell, you act as judge: your verdicts and your moral convictions dictate the growth of your build.

No two runs through the afterlife are the same. With 22 Major Arcana cards to power up and over 100 Canones ("Canons") and Reliquiae ("Relics") to discover, the tactical possibilities are infinite. Navigate through the Circles of Hell, each featuring unique environmental hazards and story-driven encounters that reveal the truth behind the anomaly. Unlock new Genius sets, hidden paths, and multiple endings as you refine your mastery over the laws of Hell.

Key Features

  • Board-Wide Strategy — Enhance your hand with the Canones ("Canons") System. Deploy persistent field effects that orchestrate your strategy and redefine the rules of the board.

  • Positional Combat — A high-stakes "Surround and Flip" system that takes inspiration from Triple Triad and Othello. Encircle enemies to trigger a Card Clash, testing your Potentia ("Power") to seize control of their units.

  • Verdict & Growth — You are the judge. Defeat the Custos ("Guardians") of Hell and pass sentence to unlock new build possibilities and carve your path through Hell.

  • Diverse Starting Archetypes — Choose your Genius to anchor your run, then layer rare Reliquiae ("Relics"), Canones ("Canons"), and Tarots to create unstoppable chain reactions.

  • Infinite Replayability — With 22 Arcana cards to evolve and 100+ Canones and Reliquiae to discover, every descent offers a new puzzle in spatial logic and board optimization.

  • A Visceral, Reactive Inferno — Explore the Circles of Hell in a dark-eerie aesthetic. Navigate story-driven encounters and environmental hazards that lead to multiple narrative endings.

    Demo Patch Notes: v0.03.02

Demo Patch Notes: v0.03.02Card Clash Rework, Mist Overhaul, Backpack System, Negative Vigor Gated & Tutorial ExpansionHi everyone,This is a big one. A lot of the changes in this build are gameplay-deep: we've reworked how Card Clashes resolve, restructured the Limbo Mist, gated negative Vigor behind specific conditions, and rebuilt the tutorial to teach it all properly. Some of these came directly from your feedback (the AI was too stupid, the border-dominance strategy was a little too reliable, the tooltips were doing too much work). We took the time to address them properly.Heads up before you dive in: active runs from previous versions have been wiped for compatibility reasons. Sorry about that. Starting fresh is the only way for these changes to work. What's NewCard Clash Rework: We updated the resolution rules. If the attacker wins, the pinched card is flipped. If the defender wins, the attacking cards are degraded (two degradations destroy the card). Card Clashes now also trigger when you play a card defensively, which opens up a lot of new positional options.Mist Restructured (Limbo): We reworked Mist frequency, distribution, and behavior. At the end of the round, regions still covered by Mist now get swapped. This cuts down on the border-dominance strategy that was a little too dominant, and combined with smarter enemies, battles should feel tougher.Smarter Enemy AI: Enemies were updated to play around the new rules. They make better use of the reworked clashes and respond to your board more deliberately.Backpack System: A new in-run inventory you can pull up from both the map and battle to see your full deck, your current board state, and the Reliquiae you've collected. We're calling it the Backpack for now; a Latin name will probably take its place later.Negative Vigor Play, Gated: We tested negative Vigor in a few configurations and realized it was working better as an unlockable layer than a baseline mechanic. We've disabled it for now and will reintroduc...

    Demo Patch Notes: v0.02.11

Demo Patch Notes: v0.02.11Mid-Run Save, Grimoire, Settings Overhaul, Tutorial Polish & Sound ImprovementsHi everyone,Big patch this time. We've been working on a few quality-of-life features that came up again and again in your feedback, and quite a bit of polish across the board. Let's get into it.What's NewMid-Run Save & Continue: You can now leave a run halfway through and pick up exactly where you left off. No more "I have to finish this Circle before bedtime" moments.Grimoire & Progress: A brand new Extras section in the home menu, where you can browse the Canones, Reliquiae, and cards you've unlocked, plus a Progress page tracking everything you've discovered so far (Canones, Reliquiae, events). Last patch we hinted at a Collection screen; here it is.Settings Overhaul: Options are now organized in proper tabs (Gameplay, Graphics, Sound). The new Graphics tab adds resolution, window mode, and vsync controls. Settings is reachable directly from the home screen now, and we also added a delete-save option for anyone who wants a fresh start.Tutorial Improvements: The card clash sequence now teaches itself in stages, with mid-tutorials surfacing as you actually encounter the relevant moves, rather than dumping everything on you up front. We also added a dedicated tutorial for negative Vigor play, which players were running into without much warning.Battle Highlight Rework: When you start dragging a card, all playable cells highlight (gold for normal play, pink for negative Vigor play). Once you hover over a playable cell, only that cell stays highlighted; pass over an unplayable cell and the full set lights up again. Much easier to read at a glance.Sound Polish: Various SFX fixes, plus hover sounds and hover delays on interactive elements.Bug Fixes & PolishCount Ugolino Event: Fixed tile selection and the tooltip on the reward.Potentia Icon During Clashes: Fixed a visual glitch where a small portion of the Potentia icon stayed visible on cards that should have been ...

    Demo Patch Notes: v0.02.09

Patch Notes: v0.02.09Bug Fixes, Animation Speed Options, Enemy AI Improvements & Sound PolishHi everyone,These past couple of weeks we've been heads-down squashing bugs, tuning animations, and (most importantly) teaching Hell's denizens how to actually put up a fight. Let's get into it.What's NewAnimation Speed Options: You asked, we listened. You can now choose between Normal, Fast, and Very Fast battle animations. If you've been tapping your foot waiting for Canones or Card Clashes to resolve, this one's for you.Smarter Enemies (First Pass): Enemy AI has received its first major overhaul. Opponents should now feel more alive and make noticeably better decisions on the battlefield. This is an ongoing effort and more improvements are coming, but the days of exploiting clueless demons are numbered.Sound Effects Overhaul: We've reworked a number of sound effects and improved the overall audio mix. Everything should feel more cohesive and in tune with the atmosphere now.Bug Fixes & PolishCount Ugolino Event: Fixed an issue where Regiones with Canones weren't appearing in the correct order during the event.Gloria: Fixed Gloria so it's now properly tied to Regiones instead of cards, which is how it was always meant to work.Vigor Preview: Reworked how the Vigor cost preview behaves when dragging cards. The preview now shows the value gained from sacrificing when a card is over the sacrifice zone, and only marks the card as consuming Vigor once it actually reaches the battlefield. The Fateful Voyage: Fixed a bug that could offer Reliquiae you already owned as rewards.Canones Tooltip: Added a short delay to Canones tooltips to prevent flickering when moving the mouse across them. Tooltips now also hide while you're dragging a card, to keep the battlefield readable.Canones Animation: Revised the failed-activation animation to feel more contextual, and tightened the timing so each Canon effect finishes before the next one begins.Fortune Teller Event: Fixed an issue that let yo...

    Demo Patch Notes: v0.02.07

Patch Notes: v0.02.07 - Tutorial Fixes & Demo ContentHi everyone,The last few days have been a whirlwind. Seeing people actually playing the demo and breaking our systems has been both terrifying and amazing. We’ve been reading every bit of feedback, and one thing became clear immediately: our tutorial was failing you. Specifically, the "drag to sacrifice" part. We saw players getting stuck, thinking the game was broken when, in reality, we just hadn't explained the action well enough. We’ve added further guidance to that section in this build to make sure the sacrificial area is actually clear.Beyond the tutorial, we've focused this update on visual clarity and interface reliability. We want the descent into Hell to feel as smooth as possible. What’s Changed (v0.02.03 to v0.02.07)Tutorial (Drag to Sacrifice): We added further guidance to that section to make the requested action and mechanic clearer.Pull Rates & Variety: We updated the pull rates for Canones and Reliquiae to ensure more variety between your runs.Edit Regiones Fix: Resolved several bugs that were preventing the Edit Regiones screen from functioning correctly. You should now be able to organize your descent without fighting with the UI.Demo Progress Bar: We added a bar at the end of the run to show how much of the total demo content you have seen so far. This is to let you know there is more to discover beyond a single run.Text & Localization: Added a toggle for Latin terms in the options. We've also started refining the keyword colors/bolding to make the UI less cluttered (though we're still hunting down a few stray bold tags!).Audio & Atmosphere: Added new audio cues for Canones and fixed a bug where dialogue audio would loop indefinitely after closing an event.Mist Behavior: We’ve refined the rules for how the Mist appears on the battlefield.Visuals & Polish: Added a new "Descent into Limbo" animation for the start of a run, updated the Canon entry animations, and fixed the failure animation for Can...

🖤 The Gates are Open: You can play the demo now!

Hi everyone, It’s a big day for us. After a long time spent in the trenches of development - tweaking Canones, balancing the "Surround and Flip" logic, and polishing the aesthetic of the afterlife - we’re finally ready. The demo is live. Honestly, it’s a bit nerve-wracking to finally hit "publish," but we couldn’t be more excited to see how you all handle the first steps in Hell. What’s waiting for you in the Demo? We wanted this demo to feel like a real slice of the game, that's what you can get into right now: First Circle - Limbo: You’ll have access to the full tutorial and the entire first Circle of Hell - Limbo.  Find Your Combo: We’ve included 35 Canones and 15 Reliquiae to discover. We’re really curious to see what kind of broken, powerful builds you come up with! The "Surround and Flip" Combat: This is the heart of our game. It’s inspired by the spatial logic of classics like Triple Triad and Othello. Try to beat 3 different enemy types (and a couple of nasty Elites) to seize control of the board. Be the Judge: You’ll go head-to-head with Charon, the Custos of Limbo. Once he’s down, the power is in your hands - your verdict will actually change how your build grows. Starting Out: Choose between 2 different Genius archetypes to find a playstyle that fits you.  What’s next? This is just the start of the descent. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be hanging out here and sharing more about the world of Beatrix. We’ll be posting updates on the lore, some "behind the scenes" on the art direction, and maybe a few secrets we’ve tucked away. We really need your feedback! Building a game in a vacuum is hard; building it with a community is how it becomes great. Please, tell us what you think. Did a mechanic feel weird? Did you find a strategy that felt amazing? Your feedback is exactly what we need to make the full descent into Hell something special. Thank you so much for being here and for giving our game a shot. It means the world to us. Catch you in Limbo, T...
