About this game
Welcome, Novice, to Holy Island, home to the greatest monastic library of the Dark Ages! You are tasked with running this revered place of learning, and completing our Legendary Collection...
Every morning new books are delivered, each bearing a distinct symbol upon their cover. Remember them well! Then place them upon shelves according to thine own design.
Cometh the night, you must deliver the Scribes their chosen tomes. Recall where thy books are placed, for this is a test of thine memory!
The Abbot shall reward thy toils with Blessings. Spend them on Perkes to Level Up thy Strength, Speed and Carpentry skill. Or expand the Collection by raising new and lofty shelves or unlocking new chambers.
After dark, vermin, spirits and all manner of beasts shall assail thy Collection. Take up thy dagger, crossbow or holy cross to preserve thy labours. Then use the quill to restore any damaged books. Note that thou can reduce or disable thy foes if a more chilled experience is desired.
Immerse thyself in a host of systems-based emergent gameplay, including simulated flame and combustion, water dousing by pail, the chaotic physics of tumbling and thrown books, a day and night cycle, ballistic weapons and melee combat.

Thy Hotfix 1.0.2.2 hath been deployed
Greetings Novices! Thanks to everyone who picked up the game, we really appreciate your support!Just a quick one - I've got a hotfix that fixes a rare bug that was causing books to self destruct repeatedly at the dock. Oddly, once triggered, this would persist between sessions. So this was quite a strange one and also quite annoying if you were affected, so apologies if you came across this. A big thanks to those who reported the bug and who also came to discord to help me figure it out. Turns out, accidentally destroying a book while checking it out triggered this behaviour. This hotfix ... fixes it. If you come across any problems, or just have feedback, please do just hit f1 in game to file them - and I'll take a look. You can also drop by our discord server to discuss more if you like. ps. thanks so much if you left a review, it means a lot and really helps the game on Steam.Gramercy!Hotfix 1.0.2.2-A book getting destroyed while being checked out no longer causes the client to alter the book prefab, thereby causing all new books of the same type to self destruct or behave oddly until the game is shut down and restarted.Read full article on Community Announcements (pH_101)AnnouncementsOfficial

Launch approacheth tomorrow! And thy Demo shalt remain live
Greetings Novices,Thy game launches tomorrow!Verily. It is but one day until the launch of Monk Took Book!It shall launch late afternoon in the UK (or the time of luncheon in East Coast US). Make a note in thy diary and alert thy friends. For the Abbot requests, nay, demands thy support!Thy demo shalt remain liveFor the abbot hath nothing to hide.Indeed he advises thee: playeth thy demo. Decide for thyself if thou doth find merriment and pleasure in the sanctity of order, the quiet rustle of the parchment, and the dispatch of (entirely optional) neer' do wells that might threaten thy collection. But note this: whilst thy demo is co-op and can connect with other demo builds, it cannot connect to the full purchased game build. For that way lies madness (and Steam doth not allow it, for they are different App IDs).Gramercy,Read full article on Community Announcements (pH_101)AnnouncementsOfficial

Next Fest: Major Demo Update
Greetings! We have a new Major Update for the our co-op demo for this Summer's Next Fest 2026. Check out the new trailer below!Let's take a closer look at what's in the new update.More book sizesBased on your feedback, we've updated the range of books sizes. Don't worry, they are still CHONKEH, to say the least. But they can now be more often arranged to fill a full shelf without gaps, whilst also affording more variety of thicker and thinner volumes. The book thiefThink your books are safe at night? Not always. At night you might find this creepy little guy lurking around, stealing from your precious collection. Follow his footprints to track him down!Viking ghosts and combatOver the years the Abbey has been victim to many a Viking raid, and their ghosts still haunt the isle!Yup, we’ve had a bit of a redesign of the (entirely optional) enemies you might encounter at the Abbey. Skeletons now come in several different flavours of Viking Ghosts. Some are stronger and better at blocking than others!Keep in mind you can disable enemies in Game Options if you want a more chilled experience.Based on feedback I also added a bit more depth to combat. Alongside parrying, you can also perform a Perfect Parry if your block timed precisely at the enemies attack time. This will daze them briefly allowing you a time window to counter-strike.Lord FluffyThe Abbey has a new resident. Maybe he can help with pest control!Arachnophobia ModeDue to popular demand, we've added a full Arachnophobia mode, which replaces web-casting and jumping spiders with Text overlays instead. This is distinct to the enemy spawning options - so you can still have the gameplay of spiders, without look at their horrible 8 legged bodies. (I have a touch of this phobia myself, so developing the spiders was interesting to say the least! It maybe even helped improve things with the exposure...)Improved tutorialWe've updated the tutorial so that pop ups no longer pause the game and interrupt play, so it should fee...Read full article on Community Announcements (pH_101)
