About this game

Survive when familiar places become hunting grounds

Suburbs, streets, and forests are no longer safe. They belong to dinosaurs now.

Epoch Extinction is a top down survival shooter set on a modern island where dinosaurs have escaped containment and reclaimed human territory. Houses, streets, and forests that once felt safe are now places where predators listen, stalk, and strike.

You are not a hero. Supplies are limited, weapons are unreliable, and every encounter carries risk. Raptors hunt in tight spaces, react to sound and movement, and punish careless decisions. Massive predators like the T Rex roam areas you may have to cross, but can rarely afford to fight head on.

Survival depends on preparation and restraint. Search abandoned homes, scavenge tools and food, manage hunger and thirst, and decide when to move quietly, when to hide, and when to run. Some places offer temporary safety, but never for long.

The island is alive. Sounds travel, visibility shifts with time of day, and predators patrol dynamically. Familiar environments become tense hostile spaces where a single mistake can end a run.

Key Features

  • Tense Survival Gameplay
Manage hunger, thirst, and health while scavenging scarce resources in a hostile world.

  • Dinosaurs as Persistent Threats
Face fast aggressive raptors and overwhelming predators such as the T Rex that dominate entire areas.

  • Scavenge and Craft
Loot abandoned houses, purify water, cook food, and improvise tools to stay alive.

  • Human Spaces Turned Hostile
Explore residential areas, streets, forests, and interiors where danger hides around every corner.

  • Dynamic Atmosphere
Day night cycles, shifting visibility, and sound based danger create constant tension.

  • Environmental Interaction
Chop trees, gather resources, and use the environment to survive.

  • Environmental Storytelling
Discover notes and traces left behind by those who did not survive the outbreak.

Every choice matters

Do you risk searching a house after dark? Do you confront the raptor stalking you or stay still and hope it passes?

The island does not forgive mistakes.

Epoch Extinction is developed by a solo indie developer and built step by step with community feedback.

Online co op is planned for the full release.

    Over 300 changes

The Island Fights Back. Major Development UpdateIt has been a few months since the last development update, and a lot has changed. More than 300 changes have gone into Epoch Extinction during that time. The most important result is not the number itself, it is that the game is becoming more systemic. Searching creates noise and danger. Dinosaurs react to the world and to each other. Player movement and combat are more responsive. Structures can be built, damaged, and destroyed. Meanwhile, the island is becoming more overgrown, atmospheric, and believable. Here is a look at the biggest player-facing improvements. Searching is now a riskScavenging is no longer just a progress bar. When searching containers, you can choose how to approach it: Quick searching gets results faster but creates much more noise. Slow searching offers a more balanced option. Stealth searching takes longer but helps avoid unwanted attention. Dinosaurs can investigate the noise you create, turning a simple search into a decision: do you take your time, or risk attracting something dangerous? Build defenses, but do not expect them to last foreverConstruction has grown into a much more complete part of the survival loop. The player can carry heavy resources, place structures, contribute required materials, and see construction progress in the world. Current work includes fences, campfires, a power generator, workbenches, a table saw, and the radio tower progression objective. Constructed objects are also persisted as part of the world state. But a fence is only temporary protection when a large dinosaur decides to come through. Combat and movement feel more responsiveThe player controller and animation system received one of the largest overhauls so far. Movement now includes smoother starts and stops, sharper direction changes, improved turning, better camera tracking, aiming while strafing, and more natural transitions between idle, walking, and running. Combat has also expanded with directiona...

Visual Improvements & World Polish Update

Over the past month I’ve been working on improving the visual tone and atmosphere of Epoch Extinction. The goal was to make the world feel less like a clean showcase scene and more like a believable place where something has gone wrong. This update focuses on environmental polish and visual consistency across the game. Here are some of the improvements introduced recently:• Reworked lighting and tone to create a more grounded atmosphere • Reduced overly bright colors and bloom • Improved shadows and environmental depth • Added surface wear like road cracks, dirt and subtle grime • Increased variation across terrain and props so areas feel less uniformThese changes help the world feel more lived-in and make exploration more immersive. The screenshots below show some of the recent improvements.
