Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I’m a content creator. Is it safe for me to stream/record gameplay of this game?
A: Yes! My Helpers never requires you to access sensitive areas of your machine. Also, at no point during gameplay does the game expose any information on its own. The only parts of your system that will appear on-screen are the ones you choose to open yourself.
Q: How does this game actually work?
A: My Helpers works like any other game, the difference is that its background is “transparent” (which lets you see your computer even when the game is open). Even for the mechanics that are more directly connected to your system, everything is done through public Windows APIs that are accessible to any developer.
Q: How much does My Helpers actually affect my machine?
A: As mentioned above, My Helpers is a regular game. Any “changes” made by the game cease to exist the instant you close it.
Q: Why not use a simulated desktop instead of the real one?
A: The goal of this project is to explore gameplay opportunities that are only possible on real systems. The main inspiration is how Nintendo develops games that make use of all the features of their consoles (often in unexpected ways). In that sense, I believe there’s still a lot left to try with computers as a platform.

YES, MY HELPERS IS STILL IN DEVELOPMENT (+ answers to other questions)
Hey all, Paulo here!I've been getting some questions about this lately (both here and via the support email) so let's cut to the chase: Yes, My Helpers is still in development (and going really well)! I know I'm not as vocal around here as some of you would like, but since I'm developing the game 100% solo, it's hard to juggle development tasks with making posts like this. Anyway, since I'm already here, I'll take the opportunity to answer a few other questions I've been getting frequently!Q: When is the game coming out?A: Everything points to late this year. The game can already be played from start to finish, so the current tasks are mostly just balancing and polishing.Q: Will My Helpers support \?A: I would really love to support multiple languages! The thing is, good localizations are quite expensive, and since I'm developing My Helpers on my own, it's the kind of expense I unfortunately can't cover right now (the only reason it currently has both English and Portuguese localization is that those are the only languages I can translate myself). Either way, if the game gives a sustainable return and I notice a significant demand for specific languages, I will definitely reinvest the earnings into that!Q: Are you going to add more content to the demo (or release a new one)?A: No. To be honest, demos are a better fit for games focused on high replayability (like roguelikes) and not linear experiences like My Helpers. Regardless, since it's a very different game from what's currently on the market, I thought it would be best to have a demo so you can try it for free and see if it's really your cup of tea (the last thing I want is for someone to buy a copy and only then realize it wasn't what they were expecting). The current demo already serves that purpose, so all my focus right now is on developing the final version!Q: Will you support \?A: At the moment, just Windows. Many of My Helpers' mechanics require implementations that are specific to the operating system b...Read full article on Community Announcements (PauloH*)AnnouncementsOfficial
WAIT, PEOPLE ARE RECORDING MY HELPERS PLAYTHROUGHS!?
The title might seem a bit dramatic, but believe me: that was my reaction when I first saw a My Helpers video pop up in my YouTube feed.I know it might sound like false modesty, but honestly, since the very beginning of development, I considered My Helpers to be a totally "anti-playthrough" game. Who would want to record a game that takes place almost entirely on their own desktop? Well... looks like I was proven wrong.Like almost every puzzle game, My Helpers suffers from the curse of only really being playable once. But that's where other people's playthroughs come in: even though it's not exactly the same thing, watching them lets you experience a bit of that feeling all over again (and I say this from personal experience, having watched 5+ different Outer Wilds playthroughs by now). Especially from my perspective as the developer, these videos are my only chance to experience what it’s actually like to play my own game, and I'm incredibly grateful for them!Since I know there might be others out there who feel the same way, here are 3 playthroughs I've found so far:This one was made by Felixtfox, and some of the editing tricks in it are so good that they might have actually inspired a few things in the final version of the game:This one, by DaceJR, was the very first one I saw! I remember shaking throughout the entire video (it was a surreal experience):And this one proved me wrong yet again: I really didn't think anyone would ever be up for doing a LIVESTREAM of My Helpers, but that’s what PaPaJDub did! It really surprised me to see the dynamic between the streamer and the chat working together to solve the puzzles, and I was thrilled to see how well it actually worked! And as a bonus: it’s not a playthrough, but I also stumbled upon a short that already has over 340k views! It was a real jumpscare to see that in my feed. If you happen to stumble across any other playthroughs out there, please send them my way! I'm super curious to see more (and maybe I'll do an...Read full article on Community Announcements (PauloH*)AnnouncementsOfficial
