Into the Depths – Underwater Cave Missions Are Here

Underwater Caves Are HereI've wanted to introduce underwater cave missions to Subnautic Raider for quite some time.Unfortunately, I couldn't find suitable graphics that matched the visual style of the game while giving me enough freedom to create the environments I wanted. So I decided to build the entire system myself.I created around 70 custom cave tiles that can be combined to form large chambers, narrow passages, branching tunnels and entire underwater labyrinths. It took quite a bit of work, but the result gives me much more freedom to create new locations and missions.Rescue Beneath the SeabedFor the first demonstration, I created a rescue mission inside one of the new cave systems. The player must enter the cave, navigate through its tunnels, locate a wreck and recover the survivors. The rescue target can appear in several different predefined locations, so knowing the cave doesn't necessarily mean knowing exactly where to go.And because navigating narrow underwater tunnels wasn't dangerous enough...some caves can contain naval mines too.Sonar can make the search easier. Once the objective enters sonar range, a distance indicator helps guide the player through the cave network.New Possibilities for Future MissionsThe most important part of this update is that the cave system is reusable.Rescue operations are only the beginning. Lost cargo, wreck inspections and other future objectives can now take place inside completely new underwater environments.I've recorded a short 2.5-minute gameplay video showing a complete rescue expedition through one of the new cave systems. The ocean in Subnautic Raider just became a little bigger — even beneath the seabed.

Meet Angler – A Submarine Built for the Abyss

A new player submarine is coming to Subnautic Raider.Meet Angler.Unlike the submarines currently available in the game, Angler was not designed for speed or heavy combat. Its purpose is much simpler:to survive where other submarines would be crushed by the ocean itself.🔹 Built for Extreme DepthsAngler is a specialized vessel intended primarily for deep-sea missions such as:Lost Cargo RecoveryRescue OperationsWreck InspectionsThese missions often require diving to extreme depths where pressure, oxygen reserves and limited visibility become far greater threats than enemy warships.Angler sacrifices mobility and firepower in exchange for exceptional hull strength and endurance. It may not be the fastest submarine in your fleet. It may not carry the largest arsenal. But when valuable cargo lies thousands of meters below the surface, Angler is the submarine you will want to take with you.🔹 Exploration Instead of CombatMost submarines in Subnautic Raider are designed to hunt convoys, evade destroyers and survive anti-submarine attacks.Angler follows a different philosophy. It is a submarine built for exploration. Its missions are often quiet and lonely. There are no destroyers dropping Hedgehog mortars. No guided SQUID projectiles. No convoy alarms.Only darkness.Pressure.Limited oxygen. And the hope that your submarine can make it back to the surface.

New Enemy Ship Added: Bangor-Class Minelayer

A new enemy ship has been added to Subnautic Raider: the Bangor-class minelayer.Unlike standard convoy ships, this vessel is designed specifically to create long-term environmental danger for submarines operating in shallow waters. Its primary role is not direct combat.Instead, the Bangor-class minelayer deploys magnetic naval mines to reshape the battlefield itself and restrict safe underwater movement.🔹 A Different Kind of ThreatMost enemy ships attack the player directly using:gunsdepth chargesHedgehog mortarsSQUID anti-submarine projectilesThe Bangor-class works differently.Even after the ship itself leaves the area, the danger remains underwater.Minefields can transform narrow routes and shallow areas into highly dangerous zones where navigation, evasion, and convoy interception become significantly more difficult.🔹 Shallow-Water MissionsThe new minelayer primarily appears during shallow-water operations. These missions are intended to create a different kind of underwater tension:less open maneuvering spacereduced escape optionsincreased environmental hazardsconstant risk of triggering magnetic minesCombined with destroyers and anti-submarine attacks, underwater encounters become much more unpredictable and stressful.🔹 Fully Modeled in BlenderAs usual, the ship was fully modeled in 3D in Blender before being integrated into the game.I also prepared a short showcase video presenting the model and its role in gameplay. The ocean in Subnautic Raider is becoming increasingly dangerous — even before the shooting starts.

    Underwater Combat Escalation

The underwater war in Subnautic Raider has become significantly more dangerous.Enemy warships now deploy multiple anti-submarine weapon systems designed to pressure the player in different ways during underwater combat. What used to be simple depth charge attacks has evolved into layered underwater threat scenarios involving:classic Depth ChargesHedgehog anti-submarine mortarsSQUID guided underwater projectilesnaval minescoordinated destroyer attacksEach system behaves differently and forces the player to react with different evasive maneuvers and tactical decisions.🔹 Depth ChargesClassic depth charges remain the most common anti-submarine weapon.Their role is simple: force the player to keep moving underwater through powerful explosions at varying depths. While predictable, they become extremely dangerous when combined with other weapon systems.🔹 Hedgehog MortarsSelected destroyers and warships can now deploy Hedgehog anti-submarine mortars.Unlike traditional depth charges, Hedgehog projectiles descend much faster and then split into multiple smaller explosive charges underwater. Each individual explosion is weaker than a standard depth charge, but together they cover a much wider area, making evasive maneuvers significantly more difficult.🔹 SQUID Guided ProjectilesMore advanced enemy ships — including cruisers and selected destroyers — now have access to the SQUID system.SQUID projectiles descend vertically into the water, but if they detect a submarine deeper below them, they begin redirecting toward the target. At the same time, gravity constantly pulls them downward, creating less predictable and more chaotic movement patterns underwater.Individually, SQUID projectiles can often be avoided by fast submarines. The real danger begins when multiple underwater threats overlap at once.🔹 Escalation of ThreatsThe most dangerous situations occur when several systems attack simultaneously:Depth ChargesHedgehog barragesSQUID projectilesnaval minesenemy destroyer fireCombined ...

    Context-Based Help System Implemented

A new context-based help system has been added to Subnautic Raider.Instead of relying on a traditional help menu, the game now provides information exactly where the player needs it.Base HelpIn the base, help is available directly from the menu as an animated question mark icon. The information shown depends on the section of the base the player was in before opening the help screen. Additional pages can be browsed using arrow controls.Mission HelpA separate help screen is also available during missions. To access it, open the pause menu (Esc or the hatch icon on the UI) and click the animated “???” icon in the top-right corner. This opens a screenshot of the mission UI with all important elements highlighted and explained using arrows and short descriptions.LocalizationThe entire help system is already available in all supported languages: EN, PL, FR, DE, ES, and ZH (Simplified Chinese). What’s NextOne final section still remains to be completed: Base FinancesThat is the next feature currently in development before release
