Navigate through the shadows of a used game store as you clean and restock during night shifts. Manage resources to survive until morning while uncovering the past behind the curse, all within three retro handheld games.
About this game
Night Portable is a horror game set in a secondhand video game store in the 2000s, where retro handheld games, 3D night-shift survival, and an adventure through the past intertwine.
After taking a suspiciously high-paying night job, you are assigned to work alone inside the store from midnight until 6:00 AM for several nights.
Your duties should be nothing more than cleaning and restocking. But there is something inside the locked store.
Estimated playtime: Approximately 45–60 minutes Playtime may vary depending on exploration, playstyle, and the number of retries.
◆ FEATURES
■ WORK AND SURVIVE THE 3D NIGHT SHIFT
Complete cleaning and restocking duties while avoiding ■■■ as it roams the store. Light levels and footsteps affect how easily you are detected. Crouch in the darkness to conceal your presence, or risk making noise by sprinting away.
■ RETRO HANDHELD GAMES: SCORE OR CASH OUT
Play a variety of 2D minigames. Cash out once you reach the required score and secure your reward—or keep playing for a higher-tier prize while risking everything currently on the line. Rewards change each night, and failure costs you any pending reward.
■ BRING 2D REWARDS INTO THE 3D WORLD
Use batteries to restore flash charges, a radio to lure ■■■ away, an eyeball to reveal its form, an ofuda talisman to stop it, and a black high heel to temporarily prevent stamina drain. Knowing when to use each item may determine whether you survive.
■ A HANDHELD THAT BREAKS
Contact with ■■■ does not kill you immediately. Instead, damage accumulates on the handheld. The spreading cracks and glitches across its screen show how few chances you have left.
■ SIDE-SCROLLING ADVENTURE
Beyond each night shift lies a side-scrolling adventure through the past. Walk through old locations, investigate your surroundings, and relive events connected to ■■■ as you uncover the truth behind the curse linking past and present.
■ THREE VISUAL STYLES
A low-resolution 3D store with a retro aesthetic, handheld-style 2D screens, and a side-scrolling adventure. Three distinct styles gradually converge on the same haunting.
Hide, run, and play.
Can you survive several nights on the job?

From Complete Beginner to Showcasing “Night Portable” at Events
Hello, I’m Kabocha Misoshiru from Pumpkin Miso Studio. I work an office job in Sapporo, Hokkaido, and spend my evenings and days off developing Night Portable, a horror game made with Unity 6, mostly on my own. When I first started making games, I had never used Unity, C#, or Blender. At the end of 2024, I installed Unity and began teaching myself through courses, videos, and documentation. After learning the basics by creating small projects, I started developing Night Portable around mid-February 2025. I also use ChatGPT and Codex as supporting tools for research, code brainstorming, and organizing the development process. I make the final decisions on design and implementation and review everything before using it. Midnight: The Night Shift Begins at a Used Game Store Night Portable is set in a secondhand video game store with the atmosphere of the 2000s. The player works the night shift from midnight to 6:00 a.m., patrolling the store with a flashlight and a handheld game console. You must complete tasks such as cleaning and restocking products, but unexplained phenomena gradually begin to occur in the dark aisles and behind the shelves. The handheld console is not just a prop—it contains a fully playable 2D game. Items earned in the 2D game can be transferred to the 3D inventory and used during exploration. From the 2025 Prototype to Event Showcases The first prototype consisted mostly of white walls and placeholder shelves. It was simply a space for testing the basic game mechanics. Since then, I have repeatedly rebuilt the models, lighting, UI, tasks, and enemy AI, gradually turning it into a detailed secondhand video game store. In 2026, I showcased a playable build at DREAMSCAPE4 and Tokyo Game Dungeon 11. Watching other people play revealed issues that were difficult to notice from the development screen alone, including insufficient tutorial guidance, unclear controls, and the difficulty of the first night. A Detailed Development Log Is Now Available I ha...Read full article on Community Announcements (kikurumars)
