About this game
You’re not just running a video rental store.
You’re running out of time.
RUN THE WORLD'S LAST VIDEO RENTAL STORE
You’ve inherited the last video rental store in town. You're broke, drowning in late returns, and streaming giant RentNet just opened across the street.
Run your store by day.
Do whatever it takes to survive by night.
The longer you stay in business, the more chaotic things become.
BUILD YOUR STORE
Order movies, snacks, toys, and rare collectibles. Stock shelves, manage customers, and expand your store from a dying shop into a thriving business.
Hire employees, automate operations, and optimize every inch of your store.
Every decision determines whether you survive another week.
Oh and did we mention we have PLENTY of store customization options?
HUSTLE TO SURVIVE
The store alone isn’t enough.
Run underground fight clubs. Gamble on scratcher tickets. Install a claw machine. Take on shady side hustles across the city.
Some will make you rich.
Some will ruin you.
CREATE YOUR OWN FILM EMPIRE
Produce and release your own original films to compete with RentNet.
Manage production, release films, and turn your store into something far bigger than a rental shop.
EXPLORE A CITY FULL OF OPPORTUNITY
Explore a low-poly open city by foot or scooter. Discover secrets, track NPC schedules, and unlock increasingly dangerous and lucrative opportunities.
PLAY SOLO OR WITH FRIENDS
Run the store alone or with friends in co-op multiplayer. PLEASE NOTE: Co-op is temporarily disabled in the main build due to performance instability. Saves you create now will be co-op compatible when it returns.
To play co-op today, switch to the Legacy branch (right-click the game in your Library → Properties → Betas → "Legacy"), which runs the June build and your older saves.
Restoring co-op is our top priority. Timeline to follow here and in our Discord once 1.0 hotfixes settle.
Divide responsibilities, expand faster, and take bigger risks together.
100% HUMAN-MADE
Every asset, illustration, and piece of marketing was created by real artists.

Rewind 99 Hotfix 1.0.3 - Store Life, Smoother 🎬
Before I get into the patch notes, I want to take a moment to talk to you as people, not just give "developer speak".The launch of Rewind 99 1.0 did not land the way I anticipated or hoped. I know many of you have run into frustrating bugs, performance problems, and issues that have gotten in the way of simply enjoying the game.I'm really sorry for that.I love Rewind 99, and it genuinely hurts knowing that we've come up short for many of you at launch. I also know that an apology only means so much without action behind it. The team has been working incredibly hard to address the problems you've reported, and we're going to keep doing that. We're determined to do right by Rewind 99 and, most importantly, by the players who have supported us.Thank you to everyone who has reported bugs, shared feedback, sent us save files, or simply given us the patience to make things right. ❤️Hotfix 1.0.3 is another big step toward that goal, with a major focus on customer and employee AI, checkout reliability, save/load issues, and performance.Store & CheckoutSelf-checkout is now significantly faster and more reliable. Customers properly position themselves at the front of the machine, use the correct loading animation, and scan their items much faster.Fixed an issue preventing customers from reliably queueing for and using automatic checkout counters.Cashier Employees now properly recognize waiting customers as checkout work instead of idling next to a full line.Improved customer behavior when checkout lines are full or temporarily unavailable. Customers should now handle these situations more gracefully and resume shopping when appropriate.Customers & EmployeesWe've made a number of improvements to NPC behavior aimed at making your store feel busier, smarter, and much better at taking care of itself.Customers now prioritize stocked display shelves, avoid Storage Shelves, and respond more appropriately to empty shelves.Employees now run to their first assignment after clocking in.B...Read full article on Community Announcements (Real Fake Games)Patch NotesOfficial
Hotfix 1.0.1 - Navigation, Save/Load & Checkout Fixes
New Features Settings Toggle Sprint - Added a new Controls option to switch sprint between hold and toggle. Invert Mouse Wheel - Added a new Controls option to invert scroll direction for the quick-use cycle, roulette chip selection, and poker ante denomination. Store Gondola SKU plaques - You can now manually clear the assigned item from an empty shelf. Quality of Life Increased auto-pickup radius and height - Items should now be much easier to pick up, especially in areas like the rental return bin. Added the missing input hint to the character customization panel. Your player card now shows your Steam Display Name instead of "Player". Balance & Behavior Drastically improved customer navigation and pathing inside the store. Complex store layouts should be much less likely to confuse customer NPCs. Mr. Gumball no longer intercepts customers outside the store. He now waits until a customer has entered the store. This also fixes flyered NPCs walking instead of running or shuffling back and forth near the entrance. Poster waiting has been overhauled. Customers who cannot join a full checkout line now spread across nearby posters instead of clumping together. They will also correctly rejoin once space becomes available. Employees now stock same-genre titles together correctly. Retail gondolas can use leftover shelf space for another title from the assigned genre while still reserving the display SKU's intended spot. Employees now finish stocking what they're carrying. Employees will deliver all carried titles before returning leftovers to storage. Order unloading is more responsive. Employees now keep unloading as truck and storage conditions change, and prefer shelves that already have room for the SKU. Fixes Save / Load Character appearance is now fully restored after loading a save. Fixture pickup and stacking now behave correctly on restored fixtures. Shelf plaques and their interactions are rebuilt correctly after loading. Customers already lined up for checkout w...Read full article on Community Announcements (samaursa)Patch NotesOfficial

Rewind 99: Remix - Our Biggest Update Yet
Hey everyone! When we launched Rewind 99 into Early Access, we learned a lot. Many of you loved the core loop, but two pieces of feedback kept rising to the top:Mid-to-late game performance needed serious work.Employees weren't nearly as reliable as they should be.So while our small but mighty art team kept building new content, the rest of us spent the last several months rebuilding the game's foundation."Remix" is exactly that - a second pass on Rewind 99's core systems. Smoother, faster, more reliable, with a handful of new things to find along the way. This is the biggest technical update we've shipped, and it's only the beginning.READ THIS FIRSTNew save files are required. We really wanted to avoid this, but we found that to deliver the best version of Rewind 99 that we could continue to build upon was changing enough foundational technology that would make old save files unstable. I know from experience with other games that losing progress is never a pleasant experience - I have distinct memories of my Gameboy Color batteries dying and losing significant Pokemon progress back in the day. So I'm really sorry about this. But I believe in the long run, this will ensure the community can continue to enjoy Rewind 99 for a long time. MULTIPLAYER STATUS: Multiplayer is disabled in this build while we resolve performance instability. A Legacy branch is available so you can keep playing co-op on the previous version - instructions here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WJLVoLdwzkX6j-wvsvddeOH-sgciwlfRPzOVu8hXw8s/edit?usp=sharing. Bringing multiplayer back is our top priority and we'll share a timeline as soon as we trust it.BUGS: For full transparency, and majority of the team and I pulled an all nighter preparing the build for today. Stomping bugs and polishing a game can sometimes feel like a "two steps forward, one step back" kind of process. I highlight this because while we fixed a lot and got the build feeling good in our testing, I'm sure there are things that...Read full article on Community Announcements (Real Fake Games)Patch NotesOfficial
Our Biggest Update Yet Arrives August 27 at 8 AM PT
Hey everyone,Some of you are finding Rewind 99 for the first time this week - welcome. Good timing, because our biggest update yet lands August 27 at 8 AM PT.What's coming:A deep optimization pass across the whole gameRebuilt employee AI - your staff will actually do their jobsA batch of quality-of-life features pulled straight from community requestsPlenty more we'll detail on the dayTwo things I want to be upfront about:1. You'll need to start a new save. We fought hard to avoid this through all of Early Access. This update rebuilds a lot of the game's foundation, and there was no version of that which kept old saves intact. I'm sorry - I know that's a real cost if you've got a store you like. You'll still be able to play old save files through our "Legacy" build, which you'll have as a boot option when starting the game from your Steam library.2. Multiplayer may be disabled at launch. Single player is running smoothly. Multiplayer is still bumpy, and I'd rather turn it off than ship something that ruins your session. We'll publish a "Legacy" branch so you can keep playing multiplayer and access your existing saves on the current version. Nobody loses access to anything. After the 27th:We'll be pushing hotfixes aggressively - expect us to be responsive and fast in that first week. And this is not the finish line. Shortly after the update, we're publishing a content roadmap covering the rest of the year and where Rewind 99 goes from there. We intend to keep working on this game as long as people want us to.I'll be in the Steam Discussions and our Discord throughout. If you've got questions, concerns, or a bug, come find me - I'd rather hear it directly. Thanks for being here.Richard Gunmetal GamesRead full article on Community Announcements (Real Fake Games)
