Myth of Valderit

Loom Studios · Published by Loom Studios · Official site ↗

Content notice: In this game, no type of violence, sexual content, or sensitive content is shown directly. However, the results of acts of violence that took place before the player arrives at certain locations will be visible, such as corpses and skeletons. There is a single instance where adults aged 21+ can be seen consuming alcohol. The only crime understood to occur in the game is murder (committed by those who are clearly identified as villains). In this regard, we would like to emphasize two points: At no time will murders be shown being carried out. It is fiction and a fundamental part of the game to create a horror atmosphere. The team is completely against any kind of murder or aggression toward any person or animal, and we strongly condemn it. There will be no form of apology for, or depiction of, sexual themes or suicide. Furthermore, we want to stress that we do not promote any type of crime, or discrimination. There is no political opinion expressed, either in favor of or against anyone.

About this game

Myth of Valderit is a psychological horror experience set in the cursed village of Valderit, inspired by the abandoned Catalan village of La Mussara. You wake up as Nil, separated from your friends Julia and Enric, and soon uncover the dark secrets lurking within the village…

This single-player, first-person experience combines exploration, survival, and puzzle-solving. Nil must endure and remain alive, evading the fanatical devotees of an unimaginable entity.

Discover the horrors that await you in Valderit.

The Writer is an omniscient presence that observes every player and reshapes the world around them. Its Adaptive Horror System analyzes behavior in real-time, dynamically altering level design, atmosphere, music, and scares to bring out each player’s deepest fears.

Player reactions dynamically transition the game between distinct survival states, making every encounter personal and unpredictable.

It also manipulates perception through a Madness mechanic inspired by Lovecraftian horror, warping reality itself. Shadows twist, sounds deceive, and the environment constantly shifts, heightening psychological tension and creating a nightmare unique to each individual.

In this world, The Writer does not just tell the story, it becomes the story, and every player must navigate the fear it writes around them.

To advance in the story and uncover the dark truths of Valderit, you will face twisted and challenging puzzles. Each puzzle is carefully designed to test your logic, observation, and problem-solving skills, while revealing new layers of the village’s sinister secrets.

A Lovecraftian-inspired narrative takes you on a journey with a group of friends that begins in the forest near Valderit. After a few beers, the friends go to sleep…

In the blink of an eye, Nil is thrown back in time to 1693. There, he discovers the old church, a cursed town with its houses and catacombs, and a dense, oppressive atmosphere that reveals the darker side of reality.

Shadows whisper, rituals leave disturbing traces, and an ancient presence watches Nil’s every move, intent on eroding his mind until resistance gives way to devotion... In this journey, you must decide whether to flee, confront the unknown, or even sacrifice yourself…

Devblog #2 Second playtest lessons learned | Now the Demo

It’s been about a month since we released the second version of our playtest, incorporating the feedback we received from the first one.A lot has happened since then, and we wanted to share it with you! Both our achievements and what we’ve learned along the way.For those who might not know yet, we’re currently developing a Psychological horror game with strong Lovecraftian inspiration, focused on atmosphere, narrative, and much more intriguing things. Let’s start this update with the good news.Achievements So FarMore than 900 players have already tried the current playtest version of the game. Our community has grown to over 1,000 followers on Instagram. A wide variety of streamers have played Valderit, sharing their fear with their communities. And the best part: The game is getting better and it’s now genuinely scaring most players. Achieving an average rating of 3.85 / 5Seeing your reactions, streams, and feedback has been incredibly valuable for us.What We’ve LearnedDuring these past months of playtesting we’ve learned a lot about what truly makes the experience work.Atmosphere is everything. When we improved the sound design between playtests, players immediately reported feeling more tension and fear. The same thing happened after making a small adjustment to the environment’s color grading. We shouldn’t be afraid to highlight what makes our game unique. Those elements are what give it personality. One of the clearest examples is “The Writer” and how it communicates with the player.Another important system is “The Path”, which helps players understand how “The Writer” interacts with them while they explore. And finally, a lesson we keep rediscovering:Iterate. Test. Iterate again.Getting things right on the first try is almost impossible… Especially when the goal is to make players feel genuine fear. What This Means for the DemoAll of these lessons and improvements are shaping what will become the first official public demo. We’re polishing it as much as possible a...

Dev Blog #1 – Shaping the New Playtest

You already know that we’ve been working on a new playtest for Myth of Valderit. Today, that new version is out, and this update is about sharing what we’ve learned and how that learning has shaped the game. After carefully reading your reviews and feedback, it became clear that some parts of the experience needed to be stronger, clearer, and more intentional. So we stepped back, reviewed the playtest as a whole, and made changes directly based on what you told us.Alongside bug fixes and general gameplay improvements, such as more precise object selection when interacting, we focused on three key areas for this new version.Reworked EndingsThe three possible endings have been redesigned. They are now longer, more impactful, and more memorable so that each conclusion feels earned and leaves a lasting impression.Clearer Adaptive Horror SystemOne of the biggest lessons from the previous playtest was the need to better communicate how the Adaptive Horror System works. During the first major branching event, "The Writer" Now clearly narrates what is happening, helping players understand how each playthrough can unfold differently and how the game adapts to their actions.Introducing the Path MapWe’ve added a new visual element to the pause menu: the Path Map. This feature shows the path "The Writer" has chosen for you, allowing you to track the steps you’ve taken and better understand how your journey has been shaped. These changes, along with other refinements, are designed to deliver a clearer, deeper, and more polished experience in this new playtest. We’ll continue sharing more updates as development moves forward. Thank you for being part of this process; your feedback is actively shaping the future of Myth of Valderit.— The Myth of Valderit Team.

Our first playtest has come to an end… But not for long.

Thank you for playing our first playtest. Now… What’s next? Our first playtest of Myth of Valderit has officially come to an end, and we want to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to play, share feedback, and support the game.Over the past two weeks, your comments, reviews, and discussions have been incredibly helpful. Thanks to you, we’ve learned a lot about how you: Players experience the game and, most importantly, how clearly we’re communicating its core concept.(Did you play the playtest but forget to leave your feedback? Don’t worry, here’s the form, which will remain open until the next playtest: First Playtest form)One of our biggest learnings is that we need to better showcase and strengthen the Adaptive Horror System, which is a key pillar of Myth of Valderit. Your feedback helped us identify where this system can be improved so that its impact is clearer, more consistent, and more meaningful during gameplay.Because of this, we’ve decided to temporarily close the playtest and focus on: Making the core experience clearer and understandable.Polishing gameplay details and overall pacing. And obviously fixing all the bugs you found. The good news? The feedback has been very encouraging and gives us a lot of energy and confidence moving forward. Seeing players believe in the game and engage with its ideas motivates us even more to make it the best version possible. We’ll be sharing updates soon about what we’re working on and when you’ll be able to jump back in and try the next iteration of the playtest.Once again, thank you for being part of this early stage of Myth of Valderit. We’re excited to show you what comes next.If you want to be aware of all, follow the game on the Steam Page. — The Myth of Valderit Team
