In No Way Back: Dark Horizon, navigate treacherous isles filled with nightmarish creatures. Build and hunt for survival as the darkening hours bring out the worst threats.
About this game
You wake up on an island. Beside you, your young son; around you, a cursed world you've never seen before. You have no memory of how you got here — only the small hand gripping yours feels real. From that moment on, everything comes down to one thing: keeping your son alive. Feeding him, protecting him, keeping him safe shapes every step you take — how far you wander, when you stand your ground and when you run. It doesn't take long to realize this island is no ordinary place; something stirs in the dark, and when night falls the island turns into something else entirely, something far darker. As you fight to stay alive, you also chase the truth of how you got here and the secret this island keeps.
You're all he has to hold on to. He's your only reason to survive.
Game Features
Protect Your Son: Everything here begins with him. Watch his hunger and health; tell him to follow when danger nears, have him wait, or hide him somewhere safe. Lose him, and nothing else you've gathered means a thing.

The Weight of Survival: Hunger, exhaustion, dwindling supplies... nothing on this island comes for free. Every small decision brings you both a step closer to morning, or one step deeper into the dark.

Fight to Defend: Whatever you can get your hands on — a bow, a club, an old pistol. But ammo is scarce and every encounter can cost you. More often than not, the smartest move is to never be seen at all.

Hunt to Survive: Track your prey through the island's forests and harvest meat and leather from what you bring down. Hunger doesn't only gnaw at you, it weakens your son too. (Hunting will expand with more animal types in the full release.)

Gather & Craft: Chop down trees, stockpile wood and stone, and turn raw materials into something useful. Build small structures into a shelter you can hide in — because when the night outside turns merciless, those four walls are all you have.
Fear the Dark: Daytime is a brief window to prepare. But once the sun goes down, the island turns entirely against you; creatures begin to prowl silently through the dark. With your son at your side and a trembling flashlight in hand, every step outside is a gamble.
Explore & Investigate: Roam every corner of the island, step inside abandoned structures, and follow the clues to how you got here and the secret this island keeps. Every answer brings a new question with it.
Full Controller Support: Play comfortably with keyboard and mouse or a gamepad — the controls are entirely yours.

0.2.1: English voice acting, 30 languages, rebuilt nights
Update 0.2.1: Voices, 30 Languages, and Nights You Can Actually See It has been about two months since the last big push. Most of that time went into three things: getting real voices into the game, getting the text into 30 languages, and rebuilding the night lighting so the dark is atmospheric instead of just broken. There is also a long tail of fixes, including one embarrassing one we will get to. Full English voice acting The entire opening arc is now voiced. Dad and Ozzy both. We recorded, listened back, and re-recorded hundreds of individual takes until the delivery actually sounded like two people in trouble rather than two people reading. Dad now mutters to himself during normal play, not only in scripted scenes. Ozzy's dialogue was rewritten from the ground up to sound like an actual 8 year old. Notes are narrated, with the background audio ducking underneath the narration. Radio static, interjections, hunger barks, threat barks, safehouse and campfire ambience. The first zombie kill got a rewritten and fully voiced reaction. Shock first, then the weight of it. 30 languages of text Subtitles, UI, quest text and item names are now localized into 30 locales. To be completely clear about what that means: the voice acting is English only. The 30 languages are text. We are not going to blur that line in marketing copy. Arabic right to left support with proper reshaping and font fallbacks. Several QA passes for text overflow, missing glyphs, and lines that read fine in English and fell apart everywhere else. Readable notes There is a proper paper note system now, in the spirit of the ones in The Last of Us. You pick a note up and read it in world, with page turning, on screen control hints and a fade in overlay, and narration over the top. Ethan's letter is in, and we rewrote the story canon around it so it points toward the hunters. Night lighting, rebuilt This one was overdue. The night lighting volume was invisible to the gameplay camera entirely. It was a bug,...Read full article on Community Announcements (musabkara1990)
