Devblog #8 - Smooth Sailing: Freeze Hunt & Crew QoL
Smooth Sailing: Freeze Hunt & Crew QoL Ahoy, captains! CHANGES:- Crew belongs to the ship now, not to the guns. The crew count and the hire ceiling come from the hull itself — removing cannons no longer makes your hired hands "disappear" from the panel, and re-fitting guns needs no re-hiring. (Gunners still die to hull hits in battle — that's where the missing hands actually went.)- Buying guns and workstations in the Workshop now shows the floating "-gold" confirmation, same as the market. FIXES:- Hunted down the random one-second freezes. The whole game used to hitch (and fling the camera sideways) whenever a new music track started — the audio was decompressed on the main thread. Music now streams from disk; the stutter is gone and the game holds ~30 MB less RAM.- Emoji in nicknames no longer render as empty boxes over ships, in chat and friend lists — characters our fonts can't draw are stripped from display (hearts and other regular symbols stay).- No more sudden blast of sea noise while the loading screen is still up on login — the ambience now waits for the world to appear and fades in with it.- The salvage window finally has a close button — no more taking everything (or sailing away) just to make it go. Esc closes it too.- Sink a whole squadron and every wreck now shows its pickup hook — the icon used to mark only the nearest chest, hiding the rest of your haul.- Prompts stopped lying: "\ Pick up / Inspect" and "Press Space — enter port" now hide while a blocking window (the salvage window, inventory, map…) is open, since the key wouldn't work anyway. Fair winds — see you on the water.Read full article on Community Announcements (Barbie)AnnouncementsOfficial
Devblog #7—Battle Scars & Honest Broadsides
Devblog #7 Battle Scars & Honest BroadsidesBattle Scars & Honest BroadsidesAhoy, captains! This one is all about the fight itself — what your hull shows after a brawl, how the enemy actually shoots, and what you find in the wreckage.Battle Scars That StickCannonballs now tear real holes in the hull. Hits wrap onto the planking exactly where the ball struck, ride the ship through every wave, and stay until the hull is repaired. A mauled ship finally LOOKS mauled.Broadsides walk the hull. Enemy volleys spread along your side from bow to stern instead of hammering one magic point.Honest Broadsides (NPC overhaul)Bots now fight with the ship they actually sail — no more phantom firepower:Their guns are real. An NPC sloop fires the 4 cannons its broadside actually carries — from the real gun mounts, with muzzle flash and recoil on the right barrel. Damage, range and damage falloff come from the same cannon items you buy in port.No more sniping from beyond reach. NPCs can't fire past their own cannon's range — and they close in to fight inside it. The guard that used to shell you from the horizon now has to sail into your guns.Chain shot flies like chain shot. A chain volley arcs high through your rigging — if it rips your sails, that's because it actually passed through them. Watch the trajectory and you'll know what's coming.Bots chain each other too. Guards cripple a fleeing pirate's canvas and run him down — fights between ships you meet at sea play out like the real thing, holes, torn sails and all.Ram Them AmidshipsHulls now break on impact. Collide at speed and BOTH ships take hull damage — the harder you hit, the deeper it bites, and armour blunts the blow like any other hull hit. A slow bump is still just a bump. You'll hear it. Every real collision lands with a heavy wooden crash — and if it's your own hull, you'll feel the camera take it too.It works on everyone. Ram an NPC and the damage counts toward your share of its loot; NPCs grinding into each other pay the...Read full article on Community Announcements (Barbie)AnnouncementsOfficial
Devblog #6 Muster the Crew: Your Guns Need Hands
Chart Your Course: a Living Main Menu & a Smoother LaunchAhoy, captains! This update is all about what happens before you set sail — the game now greets you with a proper harbor instead of throwing you straight into the water.Know Before You SailThe server list is alive now:Live status on every server — see how many captains are out there and your ping to each server, straight from the menu, before you connect. No more guessing. A server that is down shows as Offline right in the list instead of leaving you staring at a connect timeout.Version warnings up front. If a server requires a newer game build, the menu says so the moment you look at it — and tells you to update instead of failing your sign-in halfway through.Custom addresses too. Hosting a server for your friends? The moment someone finishes typing your address, the menu checks it and shows whether it is up, how many players are on and the ping — same as the official list. The status of your selected server is duplicated in large print right above the Play button, where your eyes already are.A Cleaner Cast-OffThe game now boots straight into the hub: pick your server, check the news, see which friends are aboard — then press Play.Signing in and loading the world happen in one clean pass under a single loading screen. No flashes, no login forms popping over menus.Logging out drops you back in the menu instantly, ready to jump to another server. And the launch itself finally looks intentional — a proper studio splash instead of a blank flicker.Fair winds — see you on the water.Gunnery Overhaul: Your Cannons Finally MatterUntil today, every ship hit with the same fist no matter what was bolted to its gun deck. That's over — the cannon you install now decides how you fight. The Gun Decides the DamageDamage comes from the cannon in the slot, not the hull. Light cannons hit for 25, carronades for 30, heavy cannons for 45 — swap your loadout in port and feel the difference on the very next broadside.Every cannon has i...Read full article on Community Announcements (Barbie)AnnouncementsOfficial
Development Blog #5 Sails Up! Flags, Living Weather & a Visual Overhaul
Development Blog #5 Major UpdateSails Up! Flags, Living Weather & a Visual OverhaulAhoy, captains! This update brings a big one — you can now choose the flag you sail under — plus dynamic weather, a sunnier sea, and a pile of quality-of-life improvements.Raise Your FlagVisit the new Flags panel in any port and pick your allegiance:Peaceful Flag — full protection from other players. NPC pirates will hunt you a little more eagerly, you cannot loot other players' wrecks, and you drop 45% of your hold if you sink.Pirate Flag — +30% loot and +30% XP from NPC ships, and you can engage other pirate flags in open PvP. Live dangerously: other pirates can sink you, and you drop 60% of your hold when they do.Your pennant color changes with your flag — a black sail on the horizon now means exactly what you think it means. NPC ships fly their own colors too: black for pirates, gold for merchants, blue for guards. You can change your flag any time you are docked, free of charge.A Living Sea and SkyThe ocean now answers to the wind. Wave direction slowly follows the turning wind, and wave energy swells and calms with it.Dynamic weather. Clear skies, overcast gloom and proper storms now roll across the world on their own — with smooth minute-long transitions. Every player sees the same weather at the same moment.Storms are the real thing: leaden skies, driving rain that leans with the wind, splash rings on the water, lightning bolts with rolling thunder, bigger waves — and your crew reefs the sails while the decks and rigging turn glossy wet. When a storm breaks into sunshine, watch for the rainbow.Weather forecast in port. A new Weather button shows the exact schedule hours ahead — wait out the storm at anchor, or sail into it on purpose.Visual overhaul. Warm golden sunlight with cool sky-lit shadows, deeper blue water, brighter exposure, and a matching look when you step into port.See further. Render distance tripled, ocean foam now reads all the way to the horizon, and distant s...Read full article on Community Announcements (Barbie)AnnouncementsOfficial
