About this game

Medieval Spain. You serve as an Inquisitor in the shadow of the dreaded Tomás de Torquemada.
Cast out demons from the possessed. Burn heretics at the stake. Spare the innocent or condemn them, if doubt gnaws at your faith. Every wrong choice will bring you closer to the wrath of the Church… or the fury of the mob.

Confront over forty demons, each with their own cunning and malice. Read the signs they leave behind and match them with the right prayer or sacred relic, before they claim your soul.

Pass judgment on heretics. In the eyes of the Inquisition, there is but one guilty sentence: the flames.

Defend the innocent from false accusations, show mercy and grace… or choose the stake, should certainty demand it.
Uncover the deepest confessions of your flock and wield their secrets to guide your investigations.

Strengthen your monastery, rise through the ranks, and one day claim the seat of the Grand Inquisitor.

Mercy… or fire?
Your judgment, Inquisitor.

    Q&A and New Artwork

Another month has passed, and as usual, I’m sharing some new artwork and answering a few of your questions. Will it be possible to play as a good inquisitor? I hope you’ve heard of the Black Legend.Yes, you’ll have a great deal of freedom, and you can complete the entire game without sending a single person to the stake. The final outcome will therefore be entirely on your conscience. However, I want to emphasize once again that, despite its historical setting, the game is not intended as a faithful reconstruction of real events. The presence of demons should make that fairly obvious. How much will the game cost? The price will be €11.11 for players in the EU and $12.99 for players in the United States. Steam’s regional pricing recommendations will also apply.I have a rule that applies to all my games: if, for any reason, you cannot afford to buy the game, simply email me at info@kwakwagames.com, and I’ll give you a copy free of charge. There are no conditions. You don’t need to explain anything or leave a review.Where in Asturias does the game take place?Since the monastery is fictional, I’m deliberately keeping its exact location vague. However, the game will mention several real places. For example, you’ll have to interact with a Jewish community. According to the writings of the historian Juan Uría Ríu, Jewish communities existed not only in Oviedo but also in Valdés. You’ll also have to attend a celebration in Oviedo. How is the promotion of the game going? We currently have more than 17000 wishlists, which is an incredible vote of confidence for a game that does not even have a demo yet. Around 100 people add the game to their wishlists every day. We truly appreciate your support.

New demon, drawings from Rufina, and answers to your questions

A big inquisitorial hello to everyone! It has been a little over a month since our last post, so it is time to share some news and answer a few questions that have been coming up.First of all: development is going according to plan. This October, during the demo festival, you will be able to step into the role of an inquisitor yourselves. We also have another piece of good news: the game has started attracting attention from the Spanish press. Yesterday, journalist Bernardo Álvarez-Villar came to visit us from Madrid and interviewed us. If Bernardo does not completely tear us to pieces (haha), I will definitely share the article here. Now, on to your questions.“Are you aware that the Spanish Inquisition almost never burned witches and sorcerers, unlike the French, German, or Italian inquisitions?”Oh yes, we are aware. And we did not learn that yesterday.I have read Helen Rawlings’s The Spanish Inquisition, Henry Kamen’s The Spanish Inquisition: A Historical Revision, and even the book by Benjamin Netanyahu’s father, although, to be honest, I did not manage to finish it. Besides, it is not really about witches, but it does help complete the picture. So why am I bringing this up? At the very beginning of the game, this will be stated directly: Torquemada complains that Spain is terribly behind other Catholic countries in the number of burnings. At the same time, Your Judgment, Inquisitor does not force you to play as a villain. You can finish the game without sending absolutely anyone to the stake. Or, on the contrary, you can roleplay as the darkest inquisitor in the world. There is room for roleplaying, and that is exactly what matters to us.“How important is the setting? Why Asturias, and not Castile or Cantabria?”We chose Asturias for a very simple reason: we live here. For me, moving to Asturias was a conscious choice, and I am still impressed by its beauty every single day. The mountains, the mist, the small towns, the old churches, the road along the coast... I recen...

A rabbi, a monk, and a bard walk into a cider house...

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve received many questions on X, Reddit, and via email, and we think now is the perfect time to answer them and show some of Rufina’s work. Why did Asturias become the setting of the game?Asturias is located in the far north of Spain and is a very special place both historically and culturally. This is where the Reconquista began. At the same time, outside of Spain the region is not widely known. The game is being developed by two people, and we both live here. I learned about Asturias long before moving here. In Moscow, Asturian cider is quite popular, and there are several cider houses that introduced me to the region about ten years ago. Moreover, the traditional way of pouring Asturian cider is included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. What better reason to get to know the region? You mention that the game will have high replayability. What makes that possible? Yes, that’s right. At the end of each turn, you choose one of three locations to visit either to exorcise demons or uncover frauds. All locations are unique and do not repeat, and the demons themselves are also different each time. If you want to see all the content, you’ll need to play through the game multiple times. But that’s not the main point. As you progress, you’ll interpret events differently and draw your own conclusions about who is behind the “appearance of demons.” Depending on your decisions, the game can lead to very different endings, including a rather bleak one. When will the demo be available, and when is the release planned?Like many indie developers, this is not our main job. We also both have two children, so in theory this could affect the timeline. So far, it hasn’t.Closed beta testing will begin in July, the demo will be available during Next Fest in October, and we’re planning a release in November.

About the locations in the game

Danger awaits the inquisitor at every step. If you start condemning every parishioner to an auto-da-fé without discrimination, the pious Christians might hang you right on the gates of the cathedral. And if you show excessive piety, you may find yourself facing a church tribunal. May God protect you from the wrath of Torquemada. However, today I will show you a number of places that are no less dangerous. Places where demons dwell. After finishing your duties in the monastery, each turn you return to a room with a map of Asturias. By clicking on the map, you will be offered a choice of three locations. A demon inhabits each of them. Each location consists of 3–5 separate rooms. As you explore them, you collect clues and eventually arrive at a room with the possessed person. Based on the clues you find, the rumors from the monastery, and the artifacts you discover, you must determine which demon has possessed the victim and pronounce the exorcism spell. If you make a mistake, in the best case the demon will curse you. In the worst case, it will devour you.Wait… what is that shadow?Active objects in the room will be highlighted, as shown in this example. However, you will be able to interact with almost every object. Many of them will confuse you or lead you down a false trail.Looks appetizing… though there seems to be a little too much food. Each location will feature between one and four NPCs you can interact with. However, we have postponed the visual design of NPCs to a later stage. For now, I am writing their personalities and preparing the dialogues. If you would like to see yourself appear in the game as an NPC, you can leave a comment under this post or send me an email at info@kwakwagames.com.

Greek Language, a Demon, and Q&A

Your Judgment, Inquisitor is approaching the coveted milestone of 10000 wishlists, an incredible result for a two-person team, a Russian and a Ukrainian. And there are still 10 months to go before release!Unexpectedly for us, a noticeable share of wishlists is coming from Greece (650+). Naturally, we couldn’t ignore that, the game will definitely be released in Greek as well.\A fun but useless fact: one of the developers’ mother speaks Greek at about a B2 level. After the collapse of the USSR, she lived in Athens for some time.\Now back to our demons. Meet Caligor. Recognizing him won’t be easy, and the consequences of a mistake will be terrifying…And of course, the Q&A section!Do you use AI for the art? As we mentioned before, we don’t use AI for the game’s artwork. I’ve already introduced you to our artist Rufina. You can ask any artist or even an AI whether our images were drawn by a human or not. We’re confident the answer will be unequivocal. \Hint: everything is hand-drawn.\ However, we do use AI in trailers for promotional purposes, which we openly disclose on our Steam page. And it works as the wishlist numbers clearly show. How linear is the game? It isn’t linear. At the moment, I as the writer, have developed three alternative narrative branches. For example, you might… start cooperating with Satan.Which engine are you using? The game is being developed in Unity.
