Mental Health Message

We all have to be there for each other, and we never know who's alone and who isn't. If you or someone you know are going through a mental health crisis, even if you don't know them well, please be there and let them know that MentalHealth  .com has the resources that can help.

About the Game

Follow Laurel through her school day and learn what happened that's causing her so much guilt. With only 100 HP for her energy, and using candy and lunch to help replenish it, can you make it through Laurel's Day and get her locket back?

Unlike traditional JRPGs, Laurel's Day is about Laurel navigating classroom questions, and a concerned community that surrounds her; all in order to conserve her energy to make it to the end of the day. Using her imagination to get through everything, a fairy named Lloen is able to turn Laurel into Katja, her inner confidence, Katja is able to handle any 'monster' that stands in her way. Can you solve the puzzle to get Laurel her locket back?

(This game is a grief experience. Not only is it simulating the experience of grief the main character is going through, but simulates the experience of grief the community around her is going through as well. This game was created to make you feel something real, and is a new concept in gaming. Instead of playing to win, you play to feel a real emotion making the replay value high. I warn you though that this game is extremely realistic and will hit your emotions hard at the end. It was designed for this and why the length of the game is what it is. It's designed for the best possible way to feel the emotion without burying it in extra filler.)

Laurel’s Day was solo developed by David Listzwan. Within 15 months of learning the RPG Maker MV engine, David created another game called Dimensional Gates that Laurel’s Day actually comes from. Dimensional Gates proves David’s ability to program and break the system. Able to break the airship transfer to cabin that even the Publisher of the engine thought was impossible, David has drawn attention for his work as well for using Event Based Optimization allowing his games to run just as optimized and smooth as old JRPGs from the Super Nintendo era.

    Steam crashing the game yesterday

Due to a glitch in the Steam system, when I uploaded the Japanese Version of the game, their system had a hiccup during that and forced the whole game to run the wrong files. It took me a few hours to figure out what was going on, and I had to remove all of the files for the entire game to find it. After removing all of the files, a glitched build appeared that was forcing the whole system to not work. Once I deleted that, I was able to reupload the entire game in both English and Japanese, and it all works perfectly now. I have notified Steam of this issue, and they are looking into it so it doesn't happen again. It was just a fluke of a glitch and shouldn't happen again. What happened from what I found was the system was merging it all together into one large file that just wasn't running properly. The glitched build that was hidden was forcing this. Once removed, the glitch was instantly gone.

Laurel's Day is getting Japanese Localization soon

I finally got enough funds together to get Laurel's Day at least localize to Japanese. Hopefully really soon the launch for that version will be released. I still have to change the trailers and images as well and all of that will be released the same day the Japanese version releases. And to make this clear. I am not having the game just translated, but localized by a very talented English to Japanese Localizer. The game will still have the same emotion depth and feel the English version has and feel like it was made for a Japanese audience as well. As soon as I can gather the funds, I do plan to localize to Chinese, Russian, and Portuguese. If anyone would like another language, leave feedback in the discussion page on Steam and I can look into it as soon as I can afford to get it done the right way. Until then, this is a stream I did for the RPG Maker Festival that showcases how I did the impossible and created an event process to transfer from airship to inside the airship flawlessly that for years has been thought to be impossible to do even with plugins. I solved it using the engine's own system. I also create a map for the second season of Dragon Leaf, and go over a lot of the processes used in creating a virtual console with it's own save operating system inside of the game Dimensional Gates. All of this using pure eventing and without plugins or scripting. I go over how to do things the right way and make the game run like it's a cartridge running on a Super Nintendo.

    I am so happy

I have now heard from a 5th person that Laurel's Day was able to help them through mental health issues. This makes me so happy and why I decided to sell this game standalone. The game was too powerful to bury inside of a giant JRGP and wouldn't have helped as many as it can now. I have a few people telling me they've played the game even after beating it just to feel it one more time. I actually do the same. I created Laurel's Day however for that feeling. Games are ways to escape reality, but also an amazing tool to immerse the player into someone else's life to allow them to feel what that character is feeling. The medium is so much more powerful than any book or video that could ever be made. You the player live that life and make the choices that you feel in the end. It becomes more than just watching or reading about what happened, but about living it yourself. Laurel's Day was designed to be a tool to make a person understand what another person is going through when they grieve. Although it was made as a mini game for Dimensional Gates, it still mirrors the intensity and power of the Dimensional Gates theme; honesty and raw truth. Because of the powerful message in Laurel's Day and the ability to not just show someone what a person is going through, but to help someone going through it to understand they are not alone. In the future, I hope to start a yearly Mental Health Festival on Steam to help bring awareness to video games that do bring this level of mental health awareness to help the player understand it more. I also am sorry to anyone that feels the game is short. This game is designed for you to feel the ending, and unfortunately, that means making the game any longer will ruin that. One thing I will say is thank you to those that feel that way. You loved my game so much, you wished there was more of it. That is one of the greatest compliments a creator can ever hear. Even if anyone thought the game was too short, that is only because you wanted mor...
