'Wtf is going on': Indie dev discovers their neglected Steam game is powering an Undertale multiplayer mod following its freak 1700% jump in player activity
few months ago, indie developer RetroSpecter noticed something unusual about Crashphalt, their first completed game that launched on Steam in 2018: Since their last check-in on the neglected platformer, Crashphalt had suddenly gained over 500 reviews. In its first four years, it had barely managed a dozen... Read more.Read full article on PC Gamer (Lincoln Carpenter)Press Coverage
"I dunno why they chose Crashphalt": forgotten Steam game suddenly becomes a hit after players start using it for Undertale online multiplayer
Released back in 2018, Crashphalt is a free and eccentric multiplayer game in which players do ground-pounds to send out seismic ripples, striving to punt each other off-screen. It's got an "overwhelmingly positive" Steam user review reception, as of writing, but that's not entirely a judgement on its quality. You see, Crashphalt is a hit today partly because you need it to run an online multiplayer mod for Toby Fox's wonderful RPG Undertale. Of Crashphalt's 555 currently existing user reviews, the vast majority were written over five years after release, and either totally disregard or cruelly dunk on Crashphalt. An example: "10/10 Funny Undertale game, will never play this." Read moreRead full article on Rock, Paper, ShotgunPress Coverage
You can grab Undertale for less than $1, as the genre-defining indie RPG beats its all-time player peak for the first time in 10 years
Undertale was, for me, at least, the defining game of the indie RPG genre back when it came out in 2015. Far from just its ubiquity on social media, I remember this thing blowing my mind in ways that, nowadays, feel almost a little pedestrian. That's not to knock it in retrospect—it's still rather very good—but it was very much making strides in what videogame RPGs could actually, well, do. There's a reason other indie RPGs have followed in its progenitor footsteps... Read more.Read full article on PC Gamer (Harvey Randall)Press Coverage

Free Undertale prequel seven years in the making is finally out
Undertale is by far one of the best, and most influential, indie games ever made. Developed by Toby Fox, who's now working on the episodic Deltarune, it's also had its fair share of fan games. One such fan project has been in development for seven years, and after all that time Undertale Yellow has finally been released, and you can play it for free. Read the rest of the story...
