Lead Acorns Company through strategic turn-based battles during the Evestrian Civil War. Each decision shapes your fate as you command units and combine abilities in this indie RPG from Inverse Atelier.

About this game

AXERAS is a turn-based tactical military SRPG that draws inspirations from the classics and aims to modernize the genre with a unique take on the nature of war and combat.

Yohannes Trofyeld, a Captain in the Evestrian Armed Forces, finds himself caught in the midst of the Evestrian Civil War, and is forced to choose between loyalty to his government and allegiance to his own people. With the lives of his personnel in his hands, will the war turn him into a hero or a demon?

  • Combined Arms Combat

    • Deploy a diverse variety of military hardware and infantry teams, call in airstrikes and drone attacks, and remember: Mobility is key to your success.

  • Unit abilities shape the battlefield

    • Unique abilities and how optimally they are used mean the difference between life and death, and victory or defeat.

  • Capture or Kill

    • Enemies on the battlefield can be killed or spared and captured. Killing is an efficient short-term way to remove the threat, but captured units can be recruited to bolster your ranks.

  • XP, Rank and Permadeath

    • As units survive the war long enough while gaining battlefield experience, they are promoted to higher ranks and obtain new abilities.

  • War is about map control

    • Eliminating the enemy is only a means to an end. To gain the upper hand, you must fight over every inch of the map to control Strategic Zones or prevent the enemy from denying you key positions.

  • Decisions have consequences

    • Each decision you make, has consequences that are either immediately apparent or will only manifest as you progress through the story. There is no right or wrong decision, only what you deem as a moral choice or an atrocity.

  • Dynamic story and replayable campaign

    • The story of Acorns Company is driven by player decision. Each different playthrough results in different decisions, which in turn result in different scenarios being played out, and ultimately influence the ending.

  • Immersive Hand-drawn Cutscenes

    • The story of Acorns Company comes alive with lovingly hand-drawn animated cutscenes, in contemporary Japanese anime style.

Developer Diary #1: Introduction to Combat

Hello again Commanders, and welcome to the second AXERAS Devlog!Through our fortnightly devlogs, we will be introducing our gameplay and design philosophy, as well as address some of the worldbuilding, lore, and story. We will also be active in Discord (as much as possible) to answer any questions you may have. And so, let’s begin! What is AXERAS?AXERAS is centered around Captain Yohannes Trofyeld, the protagonist (who you will play as), and the members of Acorns Company who are under his command. Each of his actions (or inaction), mistakes, and pure luck will decide who lives through the Evestrian Civil War and who doesn’t.Battles are Turn-Based and revolve around Combined Arms Tactics played out on a grid map in Platoon to Company scale. In its peak, 15 units per side may be deployed in a given battle to execute large scale strategies. This game is set in the modern world, albeit in a different universe than us. And in this world, Tanks are no longer king of the battlefield, but rather, mobile metal coffins due to advances in Anti-Tank weaponry (the same is actually true for the real world nowadays).Drones are used in warfare, giving extensive vision of the battlefield. There is no Fog of War, making this a perfect information game.Battles are mostly symmetric, as the enemy will be able to do almost everything you can do. The only big difference between you and your opponent will be the force composition and potential combinations that you decide to bring into battle.Units may die quickly, and lives are short. This is a permadeath game, so when units are killed on the battlefield, they die for good. (unless you are blessed by the Goddesses, wink wink). The pace of battle is quick and tides can be turned in a few short turns. With the right skill and finesse, it is always possible to come back from a losing battle. With all uncertainty and asymmetry removed from the battlefield, the only thing left is a high stakes battle of wits to outsmart your opponent and gain the...

    Developer Diary #0

Hello Commanders, and welcome to the first ever AXERAS Devlog! Before we begin, I’d like to apologize (again) for the radio silence since the beginning of this year. And yes, I want to acknowledge that we promised the release of our Prologue Demo, the first time was scheduled for November 2025, and then we delayed it to April 2026. I know I’ve let you down twice, and you have my deepest apologies.I also owe everyone here an explanation and update to what we’ve been up to, so let me begin:We first appeared on the radar when we launched our Steam page in conjunction with our Tokyo Game Show booth in September 2025. We definitely did have a lot of fun, as you can see in the photos:You can follow our Sarie cosplayer here:twitter/X: https://x.com/mochii1104instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mochii1104/ Setting fun aside, our experience boothing in TGS gave us our very first hands on experience having a build playtested by the Japanese gaming community. We found many issues in gameplay, and they made the starter levels less engaging than we’d expected, which came as a punch in the face. Being the perfectionist that I am, I couldn’t easily let this slide, so I engaged my entire team into redesigning the tutorial from the ground up. The starter levels we now have are hopefully more engaging than the original build (which nobody except the early playtesters who visited us during TGS experienced, haha). It is also, I feel, the best that we could do, given the limited implementation time we could afford. Then, we attended the Taipei Game Show in January 2026 for a sanity check. Many Taiwanese gamers told us that they were really looking forward to our game, and it made me really happy to hear that. Taiwanese gamers have also been amazing in pointing out UI issues with our game, so again we continued implementing UI quality of life issues. We also attended some local events and did smaller exhibitions like our local Indie Jam, because more playtesters = more feedback. On the 4th...

    Closed Playtest Announcement

Dear Commanders,First of all, we would like to apologize for the lack of updates as we have been preparing a lot of core gameplay systems, designing individual levels and doing a lot of playtesting. The main reason for this delay is because certain elements in the game are challenging to design for and many times, we found ourselves redesigning parts of the gameplay from the ground up.I’m personally sorry for having been away from any updates in social media as my schedule has been very tight managing the gameplay, programming and art team. From now on, I will strive to keep the entire community informed and post updates more frequently. We are launching a Closed Playtest for the Prologue Demo. This Closed Playtest will only be available in English. Currently, this form will be open for 3 weeks (May 20th – June 10th) to give everyone time to see this post, sign up, and then we will be commencing our playtest. The reason for this Closed Playtest is because our game has many experimental features and we need to ensure all systems are cohesive and it will be well received by the community. There will only be 20 spots, selected through random selection. If you don’t get selected, please do not fret. We will still continuously collect your feedback during the Prologue Demo’s launch (mainly through the Discord server: https://discord.gg/j6Rbqnktsf) so you can rest assured that we are hearing your voice. Also, multiple playtests are expected to be held in the future, and players who participated in the previous ones will not be able to participate consecutively, giving more players a chance to join in.Please sign up here: https://forms.gle/f23LAhAM1vZu2Mo6AFor the Closed Playtest, internet connection is mandatory as we will be gathering in-game analytics. The final game that will be released will not require any internet connection. After the Closed Playtest, we will be launching our Prologue Demo on Steam in the following languages in phases:English \Japanese \Chinese (Simpli...

AXERAS Prologue Demo delayed until April 2026

Dear Commanders,We’d like to apologize because we’re delaying our demo to mid-April 2026. We previously said that our prologue demo would be out during November 2025. However, we received some feedback during the mini-demo we showcased at Tokyo Game Show this year, and there were numerous major issues regarding pacing and UI readability. So, we’d like to spend a bit more time on building the game mechanics and overall pacing of the demo to create a more solid experience for everyone. We understand that 5 months is a big delay, but we wanted to give ourselves a bit more wiggle room to polish and do internal testing so that the experience can be as smooth as possible. We are also localizing the demo into the following languages: English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, German, and French. As this is a big undertaking for a small team like us, we’ll be using that extra time to work with our localizers to do some Localization Quality Assurance as well.We know everyone’s excited to join the Evestrian Civil War, and we are really sorry for the inconvenience caused.Inverse Atelier“Made for humans, by humans.”
