About this game
From the creators of the award-winning 'The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante' comes a new kind of role-playing experience.

'Agent of Strange' is set in an old and remote wintry European city sealed off from the world – a place of shadows, secrets, and power plays.
You pretend to be an ordinary citizen: but you are a covert agent of the Conspiracy who infiltrated the City and dismantles the hidden regime of the monstrous Traum Family from within.

You will explore a handcrafted early 20th-century city filled with urban mysteries and occult lore, surreal locations, and nightmarish beauty. Once a haven for scientists, mystics, and exiles, it has now been taken over by a clan of aristocrats who walked through a forbidden passage – the Red Door – and came back… changed.
Now they establish their occult reign all over the City, impose deviant laws, and erase anyone who opposes them.
They have a Plan. But what it truly is?

You create your own Conspirator — their traits, appearance, background, social class and even secret motives.
As an undercover agent, you must blend in the City’s life. Choose your cover as an ordinary civilian: clerk, student or factory worker.
The Conspiracy doesn’t give you orders – it gives you choices. You decide who to be, what path to take, and what mask to wear. Upstanding citizen or outlaw, soldier or occultist, aristocrat or lowlife, leader or loner, traitor… or something far darker. Who will you become?

At the heart of Agent of Strange is a sandbox narrative system where you are free to move through the story in your own way. You choose which actions to take, which missions to pursue, whom to trust, when and where things will happen. Your every encounter is open-ended. No two playthroughs will be the same.
Carve your unique path through the darkest days of the City and build the Conspiracy of your own!

You live and act in society — and your survival depends on it. The City reacts to your actions and choices. Its people have lives, loyalties, and agendas of their own. You are never alone — always mind what you are saying and to whom… or be caught.
Time passes. Events unfold. And every failure leaves a mark on you.

The Conspirator’s task is a hard one. You will stand against the forces much more powerful than you. Lead the Conspiracy to victory — or be erased from existence.
To endure, you’ll gather forbidden knowledge, make plans with other conspirators, and dive into mysteries so deep they will change what you know about the world. And the most terrifying dangers await not your mortal body, but your soul.
The City is broken. Will it break you as well? Or will you be the one to piece it back together?

NPC Interaction in Agent of Strange
Hi! This is Sever Studio.Today we’d like to talk about how interaction with NPCs works in our game.First of all, one of the key features of our dialogue system is that NPCs have their own motives and goals. These don’t necessarily include helping everyone — and they certainly don’t see themselves as a walking help desk for the player character. In a more conventional RPG, NPCs are usually happy to answer any question you throw at them.In our game, however, many questions can raise suspicion. And that’s part of the mechanic: asking suspicious questions will provoke an appropriate reaction. This is just one example of how we aim to make characters independent from the player and living their own lives.Secondly, many NPCs reappear throughout the game. We’re creating a story about a city, not a journey where you constantly leave characters behind. They are tied to specific locations, but may show up in different contexts. Not in a “the shopkeeper goes to sleep to simulate a daily routine” kind of way. Each NPC has their own backstory, carefully written by us, their own name, and their own relationships with other NPCs. All the details that don’t make it directly into the game will be shared in our publications — and there’s plenty there to laugh about, and plenty to sympathize with as well. Our game is not about simulating everyday life. What we mean is this: you might meet a character in a shop, and later encounter the same person in a restaurant. It’s still the same individual, and your relationship with them persists and continues to evolve. We approach dialogue as action. Your words matter just as much as your physical acts. They can change how others perceive you, influence a situation, resolve it — or make it even more complicated.Every dialogue is a situation with its own dramatic development and resolution. And like so much else in our game, everything ultimately depends on your decisions, dear players.Read full article on Community Announcements (d3lt4run3)AnnouncementsOfficial
What Kind of RPG is Agent of Strange?
Hi! This is Sever Studio.Today we’d like to talk about the genres Agent of Strange belongs to — and how those genres actually take shape in the game. The first and core genre is RPG — and in the most literal sense of the word. A role-playing game as the freedom to play a role you create for yourself. Our goal as authors is to give players as much room for self-expression and role-play as possible, and to ensure that the world reacts to how you act. We deliberately avoid imposing a predefined personality or a “correct” way to behave — this principle lies at the very foundation of the game. It’s also important that you are not an abstract adventurer. Your character has a real social role and exists within an urban society. You are a Conspirator with your own hidden objectives, but you operate inside the system, not outside of it. You must maintain your cover, appear as an ordinary citizen, fulfill everyday duties — such as going to work — while simultaneously advancing your secret agenda. This is why Agent of Strange can be described as a social and narrative RPG.Do we have classic RPG elements like combat? Yes — but we frame them as conflicts.Every conflict in the game is first and foremost a narrative situation, heavily shaped by circumstances: who you’re facing, in what context, and how you choose to handle the situation. There are many possible resolutions, all of which depend on your decisions, your character’s parameters, and the current state of the world.Your character is defined not only by their social role, but also by a broad set of parameters. We’ve worked hard to keep this system intuitive, avoiding overloading it with terminology and hidden mechanics. It’s important what you can do, what you’re prepared for, your past, and your current condition — all of this is communicated directly. Other characters in the world follow the same principles, which makes interactions feel consistent and believable.Stylistically, Agent of Strange sits at the intersection of...Read full article on Community Announcements (d3lt4run3)AnnouncementsOfficial
WILL THERE BE A “CALCULATOR” IN AGENT OF STRANGE?
Hi! This is Sever Studio. One of the most frequent questions (or wishes) we’ve been getting about our new game Agent of Strange is: “Will there be a calculator, like in The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante?”Short answer: no, there won’t be a calculator. And now let’s take a closer look at what that actually means and what you can expect.First, let’s clarify what players usually mean by a “calculator”.In The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, this term was commonly used for the system that showed whether you could make a certain choice in a scene. For that, you had to meet a strict stat requirement — for example, “Virtue = 15”. If you didn’t have enough of that stat, you had no option. And the only way you could successfully pass the scene was by calculating how to get this exact number. Many players perceived this as a personal challenge — “I was just one point short!” — even though alternative paths always existed. Ideally, the game encourages you to follow your heart and accept the consequences of your actions, rather than mechanically calculating every step. But people like to win, and they want things to work out. The issue was that success depended not on boldness, cleverness, or strategy, but on hitting a precise numerical threshold. Scenes were rigid and offered little flexibility. In Agent of Strange, things work very differently. The game is far more open. In many situations, you’ll have several possible approaches. You can enter a situation, see what it demands, leave, prepare, and try again. Most outcomes are determined through ability checks: Body, Voice, Heart, Nerves, and Shadow. These abilities can be high or low, boosted or weakened — but you always have a chance to succeed, even with low values. You can take a risk, reduce it with buffs, or prepare more thoroughly and return to the scene later. Some outcomes depend on conditions: for example, if you’ve made a deal with someone earlier, it might unlock a crucial option in a key scene. Everything hinges on y...Read full article on Community Announcements (wndr4)AnnouncementsOfficial
Letter #2
In response to your dead friend’s previous letter, you decided to write the following:“Should I prepare for armed struggle? Will I have to take up arms?” A week later, returning home from work, you notice a letter carelessly peeking out from under your apartment door. The reply has finally arrived.Dear friend, I see you are not faint-hearted. You do not fear direct confrontation. Or perhaps, on the contrary, you are extremely cautious?I admit, the chance that you will have to take up arms is very high. In the city of Broken, danger now lurks in every corner. Yet you will always have other ways to deal with a threat—slip away unseen, flee, pressure your opponent, intimidate them, or find a way to negotiate peacefully.Just remember, my friend—you won’t always be able to avoid a fight. One of the most dangerous forces behind the new order is the Immortal Guard. This fanatical secret police force reports directly to the Traum family. How many brave souls have vanished forever under their inhuman gaze…They do not sleep, do not need food, and almost never speak. They are merciless and leave their enemies not the slightest chance.I do not believe they are human. Something else lives within them... Avoid fighting them at all costs! There are also ordinary people—those who serve in the Watch, work as waiters, clerks, factory workers. They are easier to deal with: some can be persuaded, some deceived, others intimidated. It all depends on your goal.Alas, to them we are evil, seeking to plunge the city into eternal darkness and strife. The Traums have done their job well: everyone knows that conspirators are society's worst enemies. So you will have to face clashes and conflicts even with them. But remember—we are not murderers! Whatever the risk, do not allow bloodshed. Otherwise, you will quickly become the very thing you fight against. Once again, I enclose a few photographs with this letter. This time they show skirmishes our comrade recently took part in.I am waiting for you...Read full article on Community Announcements (d3lt4run3)
