Black Screen Patch + Satellite Balancing
Hello everyone, Some players recently reported that Desktown was appearing without transparency (showing a black background) and becoming unclickable. We’ve released a new patch that should fix this issue. From what we’ve observed, a recent Windows update seems to have broken our transparency system—even affecting previously stable builds, including the demo. After updating the game, the problem should be resolved. If the issue still persists, you can try the following manual fix: Right-click the game in Steam → Manage → Browse local files. Right-click the game’s executable (.exe) → Properties. Open the Compatibility tab. Enable Disable fullscreen optimizations. Restart the game. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. This problem came very unexpectedly, and we happened to be at an offline conference (Gamers 2 Gamers 2025) showcasing Desktown, which caused the delay in addressing it. This update also includes a balance change: all Satellite resource rewards have been increased by 5×, as the previous values were too low. That’s all for now. Thank you for your patience, and please let us know if you encounter any other issues—either on our Discord or in the comments of this Steam post.Read full article on Community Announcements (deskteamdev)Patch NotesOfficial
Post-Launch Bug Fixes + 100 Copies Sold!
Hey everyone! Thank you so much for helping Desktown pass 100 copies sold! We’re grateful for every player who picked it up, and we’re very thankful for the opportunity to keep improving the game. We also received several helpful bug reports, and the latest update includes these fixes: FPS limit now works properly. Castle Automator no longer overlaps in the background — its length has been shortened to prevent visual clipping. Black screen on startup should be resolved. Inspector missing / stuck in the world when rapidly deleting items has been fixed. Demo Update #2
Hey everyone!A huge thank you to everyone who’s been playing the Desktown Demo 💛. We’re excited to share the second — and most likely final — update for the demo! With this update, most of the features, bug fixes, and polish are done. From here, we’ll be focusing on adding more content for the full release. Here’s what’s new:✨Decorations Can Give Resources – Placing decorations now rewards you with resources! We noticed many players skipped decorating their cities, so we hope this feature makes it both prettier and more rewarding.🏗 Move & Destroy Areas – You can now reposition or remove entire areas by double clicking on the area that you want to move/reposition.🖥️ UI Display Fix – Fixed an issue where the game didn’t display correctly for players with side taskbars.👥 Better Layer Sorting – Civilians and decorations now layer properly based on their position.🛰️ Satellite Word Improvements – Expanded and simplified the possible words to make guessing easier and less confusing.🛠 Other Small Fixes – A handful of tiny improvements and bug fixes we may have forgotten to list 😅.We’re now fully shifting our focus to marketing and preparing for the full release in October 2025 🎉. Make sure to wishlist so you won’t miss it!Thanks for playing, The Desktown TeamRead full article on Community Announcements (deskteamdev)Patch NotesOfficial
Save File Issue — We’re Deeply Sorry.
Hey everyone, We want to sincerely apologize for a critical issue in the latest patch that causes save files to be lost. Unfortunately, if you’ve already updated, your previous progress may be unrecoverable. If you haven't update the game, we highly recommend you to go to C:\\Users\\\AppData\\LocalLow\\Deskteam and make a backup of the save files! Right now, the best course of action is to reboot the game and start fresh. We know how frustrating and disappointing this is, and we're truly sorry for the inconvenience. We're working on a fix and will also implement a proper backup system in the next update to prevent something like this from ever happening again. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.Read full article on Community Announcements (deskteamdev)
