Navigate the gambling tables of TEKO, where strategic card choices and risky chip plays determine your success. This 2026 indie title from Talio Games blends casual gameplay with deep strategy in an addictive deckbuilder experience inspired by Balatro's progressive scoring system.

About this game

Welcome to Mid World, an utopian society entirely controlled by The Elite. You play as Pixi, an alien bird who has been stripped of their memory and their money. To get it all back, you'll have to gamble your way through a casino, which, ironically, happens to be your own. By mastering its main attraction, TEKO, every victory restores a piece of your past, printing your recovered memories into a living Codex that accompanies you on your journey.

Set in a vibrant, highly saturated 2D original universe with hand-drawn characters and a deep hidden lore, TEKO is a colorful Roguelike Deckbuilder inspired by games like Balatro and classic retro flash games. Push your luck, break the game, and build the ultimate scoring engine!

CORE GAMEPLAY: SCORE BIG OR GO HOME

TEKO takes the combo scoring formula to the next level. You play hands using Chips, each featuring a specific color, number, and shape. But here is the twist: your goal is to form 3 independent combos at the same time per hand.

  • Mana Management: You spend 1 mana per turn, which refreshes every round. If you run out of mana before reaching the score goal, it's game over.

  • Dynamic Combos: Level up your base combos (like Pairs), discover rare and illegal Hands, or trigger special effects by landing specific combo combinations. Countings aren't strictly rigid, giving you room to strategize.

  • Passive Triggers: Every Chip played fills up tubes, a cookie tray, and a pillbox, granting you crucial bonuses throughout your run.

  • Boss Fights: Face off against challenging Bosses that inflict temporary debuffs. Defeat them, and you will be rewarded with powerful permanent perks.

  • The Overkill Mechanic: Want to get rich? Exceed the score goal (Overkill) to earn massive cash payouts. But beware: doing so will exponentially increasing the point requirements for future rounds.

BUILDING YOUR ENGINE

Your success entirely depends on how you manipulate your deck and economy. The shop is your playground:

  • Cards & Mods: Acquire Cards (powerful relics that grant active and passive effects to your stats and scoring) and upgrade them using Mods for even better bonuses. Furthermore, every action taken in the game will retroactively count towards the Cards that interact with those actions.

  • Stickers: Apply Stickers directly to your Chips, permanently granting them unique, game-changing effects.

  • Manipulate your Pocket: Your deck is called a Pocket. Modify it by deleting, cloning, or interacting with your Chips to craft the perfect setup.

  • Shop Mastery: Earn interest by saving your money, reroll the shop for better loot, lock items for the next round, or even pre-ban cards so they never appear in your run. Got unwanted items? Blend them to create items of a higher rarity!

INSANE ITEM VARIETY

With over 200 distinct and unique items, no two runs will ever feel the same.

  • Open Packs to obtain random powerful items.

  • Use Consumables for immediate, clutch saves when you are backed into a corner.

  • Hunt for Forbidden Cards: Extremely rare, highly illegal, and obscenely powerful items capable of completely breaking the game's balance.

ENDLESS REPLAYABILITY & SCALING DIFFICULTY

TEKO is designed to be highly entertaining for casual players, but a true playground for hardcore completionists.

  • Unlock a wide variety of Pockets, each offering a unique playstyle.

  • Test your skills across 5 levels of Deepness (difficulty scaling). As you dive deeper, managing your money and score goals becomes significantly harder, high rarity resources become scarce, and the final depth forces you to fight brutal double boss encounters.

  • Hundreds of hours of content, unlockables, and dozens of achievements to conquer.

A GROWING UNIVERSE

Developed entirely by a passionate solo developer who actively listens to player feedback, TEKO is a constantly expanding experience. Backed by an active, dedicated niche community, the game receives periodic updates packed with fresh content, ensuring there is always a new secret to uncover in Mid World.

    TEKO Demo is back!

TEKO Demo is finally here! The free version returns with more content than ever. The new version contains tons of extra content, so those who try the demo can satisfy all their curiosity, and finally decide if they want to get the full version. I estimate that, to complete all its content, you need more than 30 hours of playtime. Well, in fact, it's possible to play endlessly since the gameplay loop is complete and there are no limitations. It features 42 achievements/unlockables (THIS IS HALF OF THE FULL GAME IN ITS CURRENT VERSION!), but the player can keep playing even if they have 100% progress if they want to.Finally, the Demo is high quality and represents the real game. I love it. Plus, you don't just play one Pocket. The Jean Pocket is available in difficulties 0, 1, and 2; and it also lets you try out the Hacker and Warlock pockets, two of the best pockets in all of TEKO.Honestly, I hope this leads to a larger audience discovering the game. If you like the current demo and would like to support me, you could review it; that's very important for the visibility of indie games.Besides having in-game unlockables, it also has Steam achievements. And, the demo's progress synchronizes with the full game, so players who transition from one version to the other will keep their perks! If TEKO gets unlocked by Steam, I promise to do a lot of things. I'm so hyped. 'Unlocking' means when the game reaches a certain amount of sales, enough for many perks like showing up on profile showcases, unlocking trading cards, removing the 100-achievement limit, unlocking profile badges, emotes, etc. This is incredibly important for a game to gain more popularity because it shows up in more places on Steam. I swear that, if we manage to do it, I'll release a new extreme content pack. I was planning to add at least 50 new cards and 15 new pockets to the full version. How much is this? Like 1500 extra hours of playtime. Plus, I could finally create the trading cards, which I've been want...

    The end is near.

I think TEKO is finished.I'll quickly explain the latest patch (u9.1.1) and then I'll tell you some important things.- Improved the run save system: previously, when closing the game suddenly or exiting from the settings to the main menu, the run would save in any intermediate state no matter what, so sometimes when trying to return to the run, the game would get frozen between states. I actually shouldn't have ever put those 2 save points because the game was already saving well enough, and it was what caused the biggest issues. The run now saves correctly when the player is on the Shop Filter screen (the new feature). It no longer saves in the shop when using items even if you're not in the shop (this error has been happening since it became possible to use consumables on the play screen). You should now be able to exit to the Main Menu in the middle of chip plays (I had previously forbidden this due to bugs). According to my fixes, it only has to save when you draw chips for the first time, once per round. In the shop, it should save whenever items are used or bought.I finally understand why many indie games take months to make a system like this. Some games even leave EA and still haven't finished their Save System. Well, in my case, it's guaranteed that it should work at least 90%. Please, if you notice specific things that don't save correctly, let me know. I promise to fix everything I'm aware of. I tested it on my own and didn't see any bugs! remember that the game gets little feedback, there are only a few of us playing TEKO.- Now, if the player has a lot of chips, on the chip display on the play screen, the text will shrink so it fits properly.- When entering the Codex, Preview Boss, Settings, or Pocket selector (all menu screens), previously on Discord/Steam's rich presence it appeared as if the player was in a run instead of "Main Menu". This has now been fixed.- The tutorial screen for new players was changed to match the current aesthetics. That's all.S...

    Things are changing

The Artwork:I didn't think it was that big of a deal, enough to receive several messages from different people criticizing my latest artwork. Still, being self-critical, there was room for improvement. And so, I did it.Briefly: at first, I had a very colorful artwork with too many elements, very "rough" because the lines were ultra-thick, but with a lot of personality. Then, I changed it to an overly simple cover, with just a single character and nothing else. Both images had things that could be improved, so I combined the two: keep it simple, but at the same time incorporate something to properly fill the rest of the canvas, while representing the game's genre somehow.Currently, the cover shows the 2 most important characters in TEKO: Pixi / Yeni. Yes, they are the ones that appear the most on the cards; then there's Talio and Gasparov. If you pay attention, you'll notice there are many sprites that relate to each other (BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME CHARACTER DRAWN IN A DIFFERENT WAY!). Also, I drew cards. The problem with my game: it's very complicated to represent "chips" and "cards" because they don't work like in other games. What did I do? I represented them more classically as if they were from a normal deck. And I took the opportunity to place one of the most important elements of the game (The Crystal Tower), creating a combination between Poker and Tarot cards. In the post where I announced the new visual changes, when I said the new elements represented the game better, I was specifically referring to the new trailer and screenshots. However, the game's cover has to be simple, and it isn't always obligated to represent it faithfully. Even so, I wanted to change things, so I decided to reuse the old background (the wooden table, the purple tapestry, and the green rug) and the yellow color from the old text. And I redrew Pixi in a realistic way!Yes, I'm so sorry, Pixi. You scare people, everyone prejudges you. You know what? Unfortunately, with the previous de...

    9.1.0

NEW! Shop Filter Feature. Now, after beating the round 13 boss, the player will be able to choose which items they don't want to show up on sale in the shop for the rest of the run. This feature has also been added as an achievement.Along with the Shop Filter, you can also revert the pre-bans made to cards! Both in the Shop Filter and the Codex, the 'Current' text for the cards values should now be visible. I think this wasn't happening before; it has been fixed. There was a small issue calling the respective lines.Added a new button to reset the card ban selection in the codex.2 Steam achievements (pre-ban & boss preview features) have been fixed and can now be earned retroactively.Fixed two errors when changing profiles: (1) a white border would appear on the sides of the screen, it was a screen manager bug. (2) On the next run, shapeless chips would appear instead of the normal ones. Now mod texts can stack in the tooltip (if you have more than 1 mod of the same type, it will show, for example, 'x2' instead of repeating the name and its description twice). The text on the button to buy card slots has been made smaller (in its Spanish version, it didn't fit well before).

    Good news for TEKO

I'm happy to announce that I've finally revamped some elements of the Steam Store Page for TEKO. I've wanted to do this for a long time, and I finally managed to do it. I changed everything, from the trailer to the cover image and the description. Now everything looks prettier and better represents the game in its current state.I have a lot of plans for the game. I'll make some of them a reality, others will depend on the motivation people give me. If I see that more and more people like the game, I plan to put in more effort. During all these years of development, I NEVER relied on feedback or public approval, but now more than ever, I think making extreme new changes will only be worth it if I get a larger player base. Some of the changes I have in mind for upcoming versions are:Control: I'd like the game to support any kind of input. Currently, you can only play with a mouse, but in the future, I'd like it to be 100% playable with: just a keyboard, PlayStation/Xbox controllers, Steam Deck, etc.Translation: I'll be completely honest, I don't have money, much less to pay for localizations. My plan is the following: find people who want to collaborate for free on localization, then run all the game's text through an automatic translator, and have the volunteers just fix the mistakes instead of doing every single line one by one; I'd just need quality and coherence control. This is the best way for me to do things. But I absolutely need native speakers for each language. I'm not going to rely solely on a machine to translate everything; I mandatorily want at least one person to manually review each language. If at any point someone is interested in helping me out for free, you can let me know, and we can implement a new translation. We already have the English and Spanish text complete, now I want to expand specifically to ALL LANGUAGES, no matter which one.Shop item ban mechanic: this is similar to the pre-ban system, but instead of before the run, it's during it. An...
