About this game

As Seen On

About the Game

You are the captain of a Unified Earth Forces starship, leading daring combat missions deep into enemy territory.  Fight in space and on the ground as you spearhead the assault, establish vital footholds, and pave the way for Marine landing forces. Engage in ship-to-ship combat, build bases on planet surfaces, and shred enemies with turrets and your assault rifle alike.  Turn the tide in a war for humanity's survival.

Experience Intense Space Battles

Test your skills as a starship captain as you evade hostile fire, strafe alien cruisers, and escort allied ships during fleet battles.  Blast incoming missiles with your ship's point-defense turret and strike hard with your railguns.  Dominate the fight and secure victory.

Build and Defend Planetary Fortifications

Think strategically as you deploy barriers, turrets, gates, and barbed wire on hostile planets to safeguard against relentless waves of enemies.  Or, if it's been a long day, maybe you can just build a wall of turrets.  The enemy will get the message.  Each planet has unique characteristics, but the objective is almost always the same: create a secure zone to allow our Marines to land safely.  After reinforcements arrive and you've succeeded in your mission, you can toggle Endless Mode to activate nonstop enemy attacks. Keep coming back to the planet to work on your base and fight off this relentless assault!

Explore Your Ship - Farm, Mine, Read, and Relax

Fortified Space offers more than just adrenaline-pumping combat.  Take a break from the fight to walk around your ship, talk to your crew, and read the news articles that update after each mission.  Gather materials for your next mission through asteroid mining, hydroponic farming, and composting.  You can even kick around a soccer ball or play a target-shooting arcade game.

Explore Earth

Ready for shore leave?  Fly to Earth and explore the civic and cultural institutions in humanity's capital.  Don't forget to visit the Library of Earth to read about the Interplanetary War, Unified Earth Forces ships, and other interesting topics. Earth will be an area for continued growth during Early Access.

Report to your ship and prepare for launch.

Good hunting!

The In-Game News Update - Regular Update v0.1.6

Steam Summer Sale Starts June 25If you are reading this on June 24, and you do not have your copy of Fortified Space yet, make sure to wait for the Steam Summer Sale to start, as I will be putting the game on discount!In-Game NewsDid you know you can read news articles aboard your ship? After every mission, you can walk over to the flashing tablet on the table and read what the public is saying about the mission you just finished. I thought this would be a cool little feature that shows you how your actions fit within the broader universe of the game. Today's Regular Update includes improvements to the appearance of the news articles, and also adds the ability to scroll back and read previous articles. This way, you can properly bask in the success of past missions and won't miss out if you forgot to check the news.Deconstruction Bug FixAdditionally, this update includes a fix for a player-identified bug. Previously, if you spammed spacebar on a built defense, you would end up with an unintentionally high amount of refunded resources. That has now been patched. Thank you for your continued feedback. Death Animation for Enemy ShipsI am now in the process of adding death animations to many of the NPCs in the game. I started with the enemy starships. You'll see that in the game now.Major Update CluesFinally, observant players will now notice a new desk in the Unified Earth Forces headquarters on Earth. This desk provides big clues as to the content of the game's first Major Update, which I hope to release soon.I've actually been working on two Major Updates simultaneously, depending on my mood. One of them is something players have requested for a while, and the other is something I've always wanted to play. Can't wait for you all to try them. Good hunting,

Fortified Space Earns Spot In "20 Best Tower Defense Games of 2026" - Akurat.co

Article Link: https://jateng.akurat.co/lifestyle/858503/20-game-tower-defense-terbaik-2026-dari-bloons-hingga-dungeon-warfare-wajib-coba Akurat.co, a prominent Indonesian news outlet, has ranked Fortified Space as #9 on its list of 20 Best Tower Defense Games of 2026! From what I can tell in translations, the author calls it a “unique hybrid” that “combines arcade space combat with planetside tower defense.” Thank you to Akurat.co for featuring Fortified Space alongside some heavyweights in the tower defense genre. I'm really excited to hear that folks keep finding the space sim and tower defense hybrid aspect of Fortified Space so unique. I didn't plan on making it a key selling point of the game; I just thought it would be really cool to get that continuous space-to-ground feeling. I love when spaceships actually feel like vehicles that take you places, and in this case, it's bringing you to planetside battles!I'm continuing to work on a few new updates, so keep an eye out for them soon. A major update is in the works, and I want to take my time to make sure it's really fun before I let you all try it. It's going to feature some all-new mechanics, so it kind of feels like I'm making a whole other game that attaches to this one. I'm really excited for it, and I'm hoping it ends up being as cool as I'm imagining it.If you've already bought the game and would like to support it further, consider leaving a Steam review! The algorithm boosts visibility for all games with ten reviews or more, so your review could help Fortified Space reach more players and gather more valuable feedback during this Early Access phase. Thank you to all the current players for supporting solo game development. It really means a lot!Good hunting,

The Combat Simulation Update - Regular Update v0.1.5

The Naval Combat Simulation The UEF Naval Academy has built a new Naval Combat Simulation to enhance the skills of Navy starship crews during this crucial phase of the Interplanetary War. Any captains wishing to practice their flying and space combat fundamentals are invited to attend. This update adds a naval combat simulation which is accessible via the Tutorial button on the main menu. It will walk you through basic flight controls before spawning enemy ships for you to practice fighting against. One key feature of this simulation is the ability to change the Difficulty in the middle of the fight. This will help you decide, in real time, which difficulty level might be the best suited to your preferences. If the missiles are coming too fast, play Relaxed difficulty. If the combat is too easy and clunky, see how Impossible difficulty feels. It's a completely different experience! The naval combat simulation also serves as a de facto endless mode for people who enjoy the space combat aspect. The enemy ships spawn one at a time, but there are unlimited spawns. If you've already beaten the game and just want to challenge yourself, see how long you can last fighting enemy ships in Impossible difficulty. A new Steam Achievement also releases alongside this update: “Just Like the Simulations.” Ground Combat UpdatesDeconstructing built defenses and facilities now takes a few seconds, rather than instantaneously. This serves two purposes: it nerfs the ability to make instant repairs during attacks, and it makes gates a more useful defense to build.Fixed bug where placed turrets and factories get deconstructed even if the cursor wasn't touching it.Space UpdatesAsteroids can now be found in orbit around planets, not just in Deep Space. This way, you can mine asteroids right before you land.Fixed bug that stopped asteroid spawns if you zoomed out all the way.Fixed bug that prevented enemy laser cannon from tracking you on Standard difficulty. Demo Players Get An Update Too!

The free demo will always be available for anyone who just wants to play a quick base building mission without the commitment of a full version purchase. This week, I’ve updated the demo build to match the full version’s v0.1.4. The last time the demo was updated was September 2025, so there are going to be quite a few improvements coming for demo players. Some of the changes included in this demo update include:From the Space Combat Update (v0.1.1):Enemy ships maneuver around and have improved behaviors.Enemy ships use a new weapon: the laser cannon. Watch out for this one!Railgun range is now limited.Camera can zoom out much more when in space.Allied ships are more competent.Your crew will notify you of shield health %. From the Fleet Mission Optimization Update (v0.1.2):Technical changes to reduce lag during the fleet battle (limited to 60 seconds in the demo). From the Endless Mode Update (v0.1.3):Sorry! Endless Mode will not be included in the demo. This would have allowed you to trigger nonstop enemies after mission completion. From the Difficulty Options Update (v0.1.4):Improved difficulty options: Relaxed, Standard, Elite, and ImpossibleOther Changes:A wide variety of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes.In-game tutorial videos. For the full Early Access version, I am continuing to work on the first major update, v0.2.0, which will add a lot of exciting new things to do in the game. If you have already purchased the game and would like to support development even further, consider leaving a Steam review! Steam boosts the visibility of games that reach 10+ reviews, which would help Fortified Space reach new players and gain even more feedback.Good hunting,

The Difficulty Options Update - Patch v0.1.4

I don't know why I didn't just include normal difficulty options at launch! Those of you who have been playing the game since release (thank you!) may recall that I originally had a difficulty slider, allowing players to choose between 0% and 500% difficulty. I don't know what I was thinking. Those percentages mean nothing to someone who is trying to decide what difficulty to best play at.With this update, I've finally implemented four levels of difficulty options to match a variety of playstyles and skill levels. Each difficulty level assigns a different speed to enemy space weapons and starts planet enemies off with more or less health. The difficulty options are:Relaxed: Missiles fly slowly and ground enemies fold as easily as paper. Relax and enjoy the ride.Standard: Focus, skill, and a strategic mindset will carry you through the day.Elite: For veterans seeking a challenge. Missiles fly faster and ground enemies can take more damage.Impossible: For the crazy. Enemy missiles reach you in the blink of an eye. Laser cannons are constantly tracking you. Ground enemies can tank multiple turret hits. You're going to need new strategies. You can change the difficulty level without starting a new game, so feel free to adjust between levels as you learn what you prefer. My spouse is a Relaxed kind of player, while I, the developer of this game, love the challenge of Impossible. Struggling with a particular mission? Drop it down to Relaxed, breeze through, then increase difficulty again for the next mission. That's a perfectly valid strategy for having fun!Other UpdatesIncluded some gameplay tips that cycle through on the start screen.Slightly decreased the sounds of missile launches and warp jumps so that they are not too loud if you are trying to listen to the game's music. A lot more people complimented the soundtrack than I expected, so thanks for that! If my day job and this game dev thing don’t work out, maybe I can make a living composing game soundtracks.Want to S...
