About this game

Common problem

If you need any assistance, you can find me in the Discord server.

If you encounter an issue where the game screen exceeds the screen boundaries and cannot be fully displayed after launching the game, or if the screen goes black when switching between fullscreen and windowed mode.

this is commonly seen on devices with smaller screens — the problem is often caused by Windows scaling settings. You can resolve it using the following method:

1. On the library page of the game, click [Manage] -> [Browse Local Files].

2. Right-click on "game.exe" and select [Properties].

3. In the Properties window, navigate to [Compatibility] -> [Change high DPI settings]. Check the box for [Override high DPI scaling behavior] and set the scaling to be performed by [Application].

4. Click OK to close the Properties window, then try launching the game again.

About the Game

In the mountain village of Genoa in 1605, you play as Delia, an apprentice witch. Your task is to help the neighbors with their daily troubles, complete your own graduation project, and uncover the secrets of the origin of magic.

Five commissions, multiple solutions.

Being a wise woman doesn't have to mean living alone in the mountains, flying on a broomstick, and staying aloof from the mortal world. Adventure is a spice in an otherwise plain life, but daily chores are the main course that fills each day.

For each commission, you can try different approaches. Your choices determine the direction of the story and affect everyone around you.

Even a wise woman doesn't always get things right.

Enjoy the time spent with your companions.

In the early 17th century, hunting large game still required authorization from the local lord or estate owner.

For your close friend Sorina, the only daughter of a hunter's family, being a hunter is both a privilege and a curse. If she were to be arrested as a heretic, others would see an opportunity to claim hunting rights for themselves.

As the person she trusts most, you must protect her—or take her away from this place.

Traits of a spellcaster: diligent and eager to learn, insatiably curious, and with a tendency to meddle in things you probably shouldn't.

Eight endings with counter-based conditions.

The multiple ending conditions in this game use a pattern such as "perform any X of the following five events," rather than simple checks on a single specific choice. Please try out various options.

Aside from achievements, what else has been updated in Wise Woman Ver2.0

Due some residual files may cause unexpected errors. Please make sure to uninstall and reinstall the game before playingSorry for the wait—this is Orscat. The Ren'Py version has now been officially released on Steam. Just verify the integrity of your game files to get the update. This title includes 19 achievements, 18 of which will unlock naturally as you complete all CGs. The remaining hidden achievement is tied to a specific choice during the escape-from-the-Watcher event—feel free to discover it on your own (or just ask me directly).Beyond achievements, the new version also adds a knowledge-base feature that explains the impact of your choices. All dialogue with branching variations now includes this type of hyperlinked text. Here's a screenshot that shows how this works:In addition, there are several quality-of-life improvements, such as:You can now continue skipping already-read text even after encountering a choice—this can be enabled in the settings.Fullscreen support—the game can now run in fullscreen without needing to set application compatibility mode.Fixed a ton of typos, missing characters, and omitted text.Fixed a minor oversight in the "evil route" storyline, thanks to a reminder from a group member. Thanks to community member Lid Force for redesigning the main menu buttons.Resolved crash and encoding errors that occurred in specific environments. In theory, the current version also supports Linux, but I haven't tested it myself—my virtual machine is too sluggish to run it.Fixed the issue where line breaks would cut off words in the English version.Revised and added some dialogue details—feel free to explore them alongside the knowledge base XDThanks to Lid Force from Nocteye Localization, who are currently working on Russian language support for the game—that will go live a bit later. Finally, regarding the next project: I've recently drawn some UI mockups. The dialogue system will probably learn from my beloved teacher, Obsidian. Next up will be skelet...

    当你干完了一个项目,接下来该做的是……

After finishing a project, what should you do next...Long time no see, everyone—this is Orscat. Hard to believe it’s already been a month since my last post.Time to give you an update on the progress of porting the new engine.Since most of the coding skills I learned in college have been returned to my teachers, I can only patch things up within Ren'Py’s template project. But thankfully, as of today, all the UI has been rebuilt. Next up is porting the performance scripts.Back in my school days, I could write a SQL query, generate a view, sort it, paginate it, and output it to the front end in one smooth flow. Now, I can’t even figure out how to split a total of 48 CG images across 8 pages. That said, Ren'Py’s language switching turned out to be surprisingly easy to implement. From now on, I won’t have to package and upload multiple versions for different languages. After this port, I expect to solve the following issues in one go:Integration of the achievement systemGame crashes in certain environmentsWords being cut off mid-line in EnglishEasy in-game display of conditional text variationsAutomatic savingSo, the ported version is still expected to launch within the year. Stay tuned, meow~On top of that, over the past few weeks, I also took a road trip to Western Sichuan. Here are a few snapshots. After I came back, I told my family that next year, once I finish my current project, I want to go to Qinghai to see the remains of the oil bases. Their sharp comment: “You novel writers really have a different taste in travel.”My reply: “I actually love sitting out in the wilderness and writing scripts.”Solo long-distance travel and camping are really great for thinking about all kinds of things. While on the road, a friend asked me if writing is fun.My answer: “Not fun at all. It’s especially painful.”I feel like writing is just like model-making: the only moments of great joy are at the beginning (when a new idea pops up / when unboxing a delivery) and at the end (when you...

The digital album is released, and some thoughts of the next game

Good afternoon, friends! This is orscat. The first free DLC is now live. If you own the base game, it will download automatically. You can find it in the "Digital Album" folder within the game's installation directory. This DLC includes two parts. First, there are ten additional CGs. Three of them were actually drawn during development but weren’t used due to the main story’s more serious tone, so I decided to put in a little extra effort and share them as a separate gallery. The other part is a LoRA training set for Delia. These were completed early in the project, and by my current standards, they’re actually pretty rough (laughs), but still good enough for training a LoRA — the LoRA I’m currently using was trained with this very set.The Ren'Py port is also progressing steadily, but it’ll still be a long while before it’s actually released.Lately, I’ve also been thinking about a sequel. Here’s what I’ve decided so far:Two new protagonists, with cameos from previous characters acting as guides. This time I want to try writing a sibling story with a bit of an "incestuous" twist. The story takes place 15 years after the first game, in the summer of 1620 in Genoa — right as the Protestant and Catholic forces are at war, on the eve of the Battle of White Mountain. Although Genoa isn’t directly involved, as an ally of Spain, the war affects daily life like an endless stretch of bad weather. I personally really enjoy writing slice-of-life stories from the perspective of ordinary people. The game will include attribute checks, but I don’t want save-scumming to be part of the experience — constantly reloading to pass a check isn’t fun. To achieve this, success and failure in each check will yield different clues, ultimately leading back to the same goal and moving the story forward. To ensure that both success and failure provide meaningful clues, this game probably won’t allow skill respecs. That makes it easier to place clues and maintain story integrity — otherwise, the permu...

    【Development Log】Future Update Plans

Good afternoon, friends. This is Orscat. After sighing for days over the growing number of issues with the old engine, I made a tough decision: just port the game to Ren'Py. Who else would start planning a new engine remake just a week after their game’s release? Oh, it’s me.So here’s the full update plan:Regarding the issue of line breaks causing word separation in the English version, it seemed difficult to achieve in the old engine. However, it can be solved by porting to Renpy.Next, the achievement system and Russian language version—these will be launched together with the new engine version. Also, the fullscreen black screen issue mentioned earlier will be resolved in the new engine as well.In addition, I’ve been experimenting with implementing a hover dictionary feature in Ren'Py using shared code from other developers. For example, in the monastery dinner event, choosing different options for the priest’s request leads to different dialogues. However, these variations are not clearly indicated in the current version. With Ren’Py, I can use this kind of hyperlink format to show players: “This part changes based on your choice:”There are many such variations, but in the current version they’re really not obvious. If no one notices them, then I’ve written them all for nothing XDOf course, learning a new engine and porting everything over is a very long process. Optimistically speaking, it’d be great if it can be done within this year. Finally, if you appreciate Renaissance history and culture, can accept a writing style that tucks all kinds of clues into unassuming dialogue, or enjoy a taste of yuri (speaking of which—yesterday I saw a Steam review where someone thought my game is actually true yuri), then give Sojourn Witch and Her Graduation Project a try. Thank you, meow~
