About this game

CELLULAR COMBAT EVOLVED

In Pathogenic, you are the disease. Experience a visceral 2D roguelike twin-stick shooter where you play as a lone parasite fighting a desperate war against the immune system. Your goal is simple: infect and conquer your human host.

To survive, you must adapt. Hunt down enemy cells, rip out their organelles, and graft them onto your own body. Evolve from a simple cell into a complex engine of destruction. Create powerful, game-breaking builds and become the ultimate pathogen.

CREATE YOUR OWN PATHOGEN

Loot, graft, and assemble your parasite from dozens of unique organelles. Combine flagella for movement, mitochondria for power, secretors for ranged attacks, and spikes for melee combat. Chain organelle effects and discover powerful synergies to build an unstoppable disease vector.

FIGHT THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

Battle a diverse roster of enemies, from basic immune cells like macrophages and T cells to rival parasites such as tapeworms or protozoa. Formidable bosses are lurking deep within the host's organs.

METAPROGRESSION

Collect plasmid fragments to permanently upgrade your parasite's plasmid tree between runs. Each parasite will have it's own upgrade tree allowing for a range of builds to suit your preferred playstyle.

EXPLORE A MICROSCOPIC WORLD

Navigate the procedurally generated organic landscape of the human body. Travel through distinct biomes like the branching pathways of the lungs, the pulsating chambers of the heart, and the complex neural network of the brain.

FEEL THE ORGANIC ACTION

Our detailed, colorful world is powered by a soft-body physics simulation, giving every cell, enemy, and projectile a uniquely satisfying organic feel. The combination of hand-crafted design and procedural generation ensures endless variety - each run offers a fresh and challenging gameplay experience.

    New Patch: Balancing Adjustments

Hi Parasites! We're back with a new update! This time the focus is mostly on balancing. We've been combing through all your feedback here on Steam and on our Discord reporting channels, and we noticed a few organelles and mutations performing far better than intended due to how the buffs were stacked. This patch will turn them down a notch, while also buffing several other organelles to encourage more varied approaches to infecting the human body.At the same time, there are several adjustments to the hp of enemies in the Heart, as we hope to make this "final" level more fitting to its status.See below for the full changelog:Organelle BalanceBuffsSentry Nidus: turret damage 70 + 20 x rarity -> 80 + 50 x raritySwarm Nidus: minion damage 9 + 4 x rarity -> 9 + 5 x rarityGyrase Wheel: stamina cost 2.0 -> 1.4Conal Burst: time between shots in the spray 0.08s -> 0.04s (melee weapons 0.32s -> 0.16s). The burst now also re-reads your aim on every shot, so the cone follows the cursor instead of locking to the direction you were facing when you pressed itOpisthoblast: cones now also spawn on missed melee attacks, not just on hitsDehiscence Lobber: grenade damage 250 -> 280Blastocyst Mortar: rocket damage 280 -> 300NerfsOvercharge-strength bonuses (Conductive slot, plasmids, mutations) now stack additively with each other instead of multiplicativelyLateral Emitter: damage 1.0 + 0.4 x rarity -> 1.0 + 0.3 x rarity; overcharge bonus +0.5 -> +0.4 per charge. Also now scales off the attack's base damage instead of its fully-buffed damage, so it no longer double-dips on your global damage bonusesKatanosome: overcharge crit chance +20% -> +10% per charge (base 10% unchanged)Phagosome: overcharge damage gained per kill: 0.5% + 0.5% x rarity -> 0.25% + 0.25% x rarity per chargePeroxisome: its explosions were re-applying every global on-attack damage bonus a second time on top of the damage they already inherited. This is corrected now, so explosions hit for what they sayMucus Emitter: or...

    Post-Launch Update: Addressing Player Feedback

Hey Parasites!Pathogenic just passed 100k copies sold! Thank you so much for your support that helped us reach this massive milestone in less than a week after launch. Now for the more important thing of today: Pathogenic just got a new update with a series of rebalancing, optimizations and fixes!BalancingWe've heard your feedback about the Lungs difficulty scaling. While it will remain as a harder late-game level, we have adjusted some of the enemies to make them less unpredictable. Dash attacks are now more telegraphed for the pathogens to evade, and the alveolar macrophages are receiving fewer buffs from their T-cells support.Traits also received a couple changes to make your runs less chaotic. Cancerous trait now transfers to the newly cloned organelle, meaning that the original organelle will lose the trait and the stat boost. There will only be one cancerous organelle at a time, unless you decide to pick up another one from the wild. Also, Ephemeral organelles can now be recycled for resources if they are barely used.Solo DiatomWe know not everyone wants to team up for infection, and some prefer to fly solo. The Diatom can now be played as a single player by clicking X on the pathogen selection screen to start the game. After waiting a short time in-game with no input from a second set of controls, the Diatom will enter single-player mode where one player can control both halves of the pathogen.Secret Level PuzzleFor players who want to jump straight into action, you can choose to skip the puzzle and go directly into the Secret Level. We've heard a lot of feedback around getting to the secret level so we've added an option in the difficulty settings for those looking for more combat and less puzzle-solving. Though beware, only those who defeated the Secret Level boss can earn access to its domain. Before we go, just want to say a big thank you to everyone who shared their feedback on our Discord and on Steam. The dev team is hard at work on evolving Pathogenic ...
