About this game

The critically-acclaimed monster-collecting series returns with a brand new story, perfect for both new and returning players alike!

After arriving in a quiet neighbourhood of London, you soon find yourself pulled down a rabbit hole to Nodnol, a land of beasts and high strangeness that exists in the shadow of our own. When the past collides with the present, one question must be answered: Who is the mysterious occultist Westerley, and what are they planning for both worlds?

Enter the story as a newcomer or import your character from the first Cassette Beasts game to continue your creature-collecting journey!

Adventure to a massive new soundtrack from returning Cassette Beasts composer Joel Baylis, including vocals from Shelby Harvey (Cassette Beasts), Johnny Gioeli (Crush 40) and more!

Record beasts with cassette tapes and play them back to take on their form in battle! Fuse with your companions to gain the upper hand - any two beasts can be combined to produce over 57,000+ powerful and fully-animated fusion forms! Take advantage of alchemy in battle to apply extra buffs and debuffs alongside your attacks or even change your opponent’s elemental type.

Befriend, recruit, and romance from a roster of twelve companions with full voice acting from a celebrated cast. Each companion has their own motivations, stories, and gameplay perks. Each bond deepened allows for more powerful fusions in battle!

Explore the beast world of Nodnol alongside your friends with online multiplayer. Trade tapes, record beasts, and fight alongside other players in any encounter, including story battles!

Beasts you encounter have a chance to break out of their rigid roles and rebel against you. Rogue beasts learn from your battle techniques, adapt, and return to challenge you anew!

Dev Blog #3 - Release Window & Cast Reveal!

Hey everyone! If you’re reading this the week it is being posted, the team is currently at Gamescom in Cologne, showing off CB2002 right now! As part of the Gamescom celebrations, we have a brand new trailer for the game that shows off some new characters, some of our awesome voice cast and our release window, which you can view here: That’s right - Cassette Beasts 2002 is launching on all platforms in March 2027! We’ve been working on this game for several years now and we’re so excited for the finish line to be in sight. Not long now! Over on our social channels, we’ve been showing off some more peeks at the game, including a look at the revamped party menu! We’ve been doing a whole lot of overhauling on all aspects of the UI to improve usability, flow and all that good stuff. We’ve also been showing off more beasts, with the next 3 “beast spotlights”! Beast Spotlight #4: Reapurr Element: Beast Reapurrs exist as a naturally occurring population control in Nodnol, culling beast numbers when they grow too large. In their immature states, they aren’t able to harvest most souls - only miniscule beasts, or perhaps large vegetables. Beast Spotlight #5: Gunstinger Element: Plant Gunstingers are known for their deadly accurate aim & strong sense of justice, oft appearing out of nowhere to defend a fellow beast in need. They can occasionally be seen posing dramatically on hilltops, capes billowing in the wind. Beast Spotlight #6: Wereknuckle Element: Metal A Southpaw who has honed their combat arts, and their bodies, over many fierce battles. Their flexible metal armour plating can absorb kinetic force which can be redirected with lightning-quick punches and jabs. That’s all from us - if you’re able to attend Gamescom, come and say hi! You can check out our previous blog for more information on all the cool activities happening over the next few days at the booth. Until next time!

Dev Blog #2: "Ages of Change" Track Reveal

Hey, it’s Joel here - resident composer and sound guy from the Bytten Studio team. We’ve just released the first single from the upcoming Cassette Beasts 2002 soundtrack, and so I thought I’d write a few words about how “Ages of Change” came about: Jay and I always used to half-jokingly proclaim that one day we’d get Johnny Gioeli to sing on a track for us. Though, in this pipe dream we’re on like game number 5 and have a lot more cred in our back pockets. Crush 40’s Sonic tracks were a major influence on Cassette Beasts’ approach to music in general; and on my personal musical shaping, growing up, in general. Just over 2 years ago I decided to go on a whim and sent a hail mary email over to the band he was touring with asking if he’d be up for collaborating on CB2 and to my shock, only a couple minutes later, he replied - and he was totally game. The following week we had a call and we were good to go. I couldn’t believe it. Now I just had to write the best song I had ever written - piece of cake, right? It was not. I already had the game’s leitmotif (main melody) in mind from a lot of trial and error the year before, so I knew what I wanted the vocal melody in the chorus to be, but getting it to the scale that I had envisioned and writing the surrounding verses took a while. I put a lot of pressure on myself to make this the peak of scale and emotion out of anything I’ve made before and after working on it on and off for the following 2 years, I think I achieved that. In CB1 (what we call the first Cassette Beasts game) I used programmed drums for the whole soundtrack, but this time round I had the time and resources to get some studio sessions in to record live drum recordings, so I recruited my good friend and ex-band mate Harry Pritchard to smack the skins. It immediately gave the mix way more life and air. We threw on Cassette Beasts resident Shelby Harvey on accompanying vocals - because I’m a sucker for male + female vocals on a song - something you’ll soon ...

(we had an account previously but lost access to it, so this is the new one, R.I.P.) Beast SpotlightsAcross the last few weeks, we’ve been spotlighting some of our new beasts on our Twitter, BlueSky and Subreddit. Here’s a couple of the ones we’ve shown so far! Beast Spotlight #1: AnjellyElement: WaterThe kindly Anjelly is something of a self-proclaimed medic. They cultivate medicinal fluids in their organ sacs that they are able to inject into wounded beasts with their needle-like tails. Beast Spotlight #2: NewtpolitanElement: IceThe Newtpolitans attracts potential prey with its syrupy scent and bright, appealing colouring. Any unlucky beast who takes a lick, however, will find its tongue frozen to its ice-cold skin - and at the mercy of the Newtpolitan’s unquenchable appetit...
