Knitewings Development Update — From Purgatory to Hell
Hi everyone! It’s time for another development update on Knitewings. Over the past few weeks, most of my work has been focused on building the environments that will make up the later stages of the game. One of my main goals is to make each realm feel immediately recognizable, not only through its visual style, but also through its atmosphere and the way the player travels through it. Today I can finally show you two of them: Purgatory and Hell. Purgatory — Chimera’s Cathedral Purgatory has been one of the most interesting environments to develop so far. The journey through this realm eventually leads to an enormous gothic cathedral, a place deeply connected to Chimera and to the fate of the souls trapped in Purgatory. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45760589/cfca1c648a72cec52d6cdee4f974c3257248bb92.png I wanted the cathedral to feel monumental and solemn, but at the same time cold and unsettling. Its towering architecture, statues, stained-glass windows and violet light are meant to preserve the appearance of a sacred place while suggesting that something within it has gone terribly wrong. At the heart of the cathedral lies the Altar of Mercy, once the final destination for souls that had completed their penance and hoped to ascend to Heaven. There is much more behind this place and Chimera’s role in its history, but I’d rather let you discover that while playing. :) Hell — The Realm of the Hanging Prisons Hell takes the visual direction in almost the opposite direction. Instead of the enclosed, solemn architecture of Chimera’s Cathedral, the player enters an enormous volcanic landscape dominated by a distant volcano and a seemingly endless network of gigantic chains. And hanging from those chains are the prisons. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45760589/d28b57e1e7560fbe3a9f0d6d3fce155ec7bca634.png This region of Hell is known as the Realm of the Hanging Prisons, the domain of Lilith. Countless souls condemned to Hell are imprisoned above the volcanic lands, inside cages suspended at differ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Bugbuster77)AnnouncementsOfficial
The Journey Continues
Hi everyone! It's been a little while since the last development update, so I wanted to let you know that work on Knitewings is continuing steadily.Over the past weeks I've been focusing almost entirely on creating the remaining environments, enemies and bosses that will make up the full adventure. As a solo developer, this is one of the most time-consuming parts of the project, but it's also one of the most exciting.Today I'd like to share a small glimpse of one of the upcoming areas: Paradise. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45760589/2454dde228908a68a80876484ef5ce7abd410dc8.png I'm deliberately keeping most of the new content under wraps because I'd love for you to discover it while playing, but I also want to reassure everyone who's following the project that development is moving forward every day.Thank you all for your patience, your feedback and your continued support. It really means a lot.I'll be back with another update soon!— Fabio Profenix Studio — Knitewings™ — Old-school arcade. Knitewings™ Demo Update – A Major Step Forward
Over the past few months I've been working on a substantial update to the Knitewings™ demo, refining many aspects of the experience based on playtesting, community feedback and countless hours of iteration. This new version introduces improvements across gameplay, visuals, audio and overall presentation. Build Setup System {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45760589/6f88da93b20b8f85112277fa3aed395517dec13e.png One of the biggest changes is the complete replacement of the old three-choice upgrade system. Instead of repeatedly interrupting the action with upgrade selections, players now prepare their build before entering battle through a dedicated Build Setup screen. The new system eliminates gameplay interruptions while preserving the dramatic level-up moments and visual feedback that make progression feel rewarding. The result is a smoother and more action-focused experience without sacrificing the excitement of becoming stronger during battle. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45760589/e3df1efa15c7847169c7d3b289446886a71563c3.png Improved Audio The entire audio mix has been revisited. Sound effects have been rebalanced, several effects have been replaced with higher-quality alternatives, and a dedicated SFX volume control has been added to the options menu, allowing independent adjustment of sound effects volume. Enhanced Visual Presentation {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45760589/4391c2f69825f093f8e8dbbe44b4232bd8ce6cff.gif A new post-processing pass has been introduced to improve contrast, color separation and overall image quality, helping Knitewings achieve a stronger anime-inspired visual style. In addition, a brand-new VFX rendering pipeline has allowed the replacement and enhancement of most visual effects throughout the game, with significant improvements to many attacks and abilities, including several of Caronte's boss attacks. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45760589/40442a5db5db97ee74b934f9c3502e43fae9b366.png More Responsive HUD The user interface has been refined and made more responsive, improving readab...Read full article on Community Announcements (Bugbuster77)Patch NotesOfficial
Knitewings™ Development Update – New EMISSIVE VFX System
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45760589/40442a5db5db97ee74b934f9c3502e43fae9b366.png Over the past few weeks I've been working on a major upgrade to the visual effects pipeline powering Knitewings. One of the biggest additions is a brand-new EMISSIVE shader archetype, developed directly inside S2Engine. Unlike the previous approach, EMISSIVE materials are now handled through a dedicated rendering path specifically designed for visual effects. This allows me to create brighter, cleaner and more dynamic effects while keeping the workflow simpler and more consistent. To demonstrate the difference, here's a comparison of Caronte's special attack before and after the upgrade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytWDt2NRw6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89WefBq6CwA The new system makes it possible to create effects that feel more energetic and impactful while improving readability during combat. This technology is not limited to Caronte. It is already being used to upgrade weapons, abilities, bosses and environmental effects throughout the game, and it will become one of the foundations of Knitewings' visual identity moving forward. The good news is that most of this work is now complete, which means development can fully focus on gameplay content, enemies, bosses and level progression. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45760589/91ca8f51e71ebea2db948193a120bd0d1da20386.png And yes... The next major demo update is getting closer. Stay tuned. Fabio — Knitewings™ — Old-school arcade. Reforged.Read full article on Community Announcements (Bugbuster77)
