About this game
WELCOME TO AFTERHEAT
A brutal solo survival game set in a scorched, post-apocalyptic Earth consumed by climate collapse.
The world as we knew it is gone. Oceans have evaporated. Forests turned to ash. Humanity has fallen.
What remains is a lifeless desert wasteland—relentless, empty, and silent.
You are alone. No one is coming.
To survive, you must adapt to the heat, fight exhaustion, scavenge what’s left, and stay one step ahead of the planet itself.
A VAST POST-APOCALYPTIC DESERT
Explore a haunting, sun-blasted open world where every landmark tells a story of collapse. From buried cities and rusted ruins to shifting dunes and lost temples—this world is both your enemy and your only companion.
DEEP AND LAYERED SURVIVAL
Survival is not a meter to fill—it's a complex system:
Hydration and hunger: Every drop of water and calorie matters
Body temperature: Stay cool in the blazing heat and warm during freezing nights
Exhaustion: Rest is just as critical as food
Weight and calorie balance: Your body weight changes realistically based on what you eat and how active you are. Eat too much and move too little, and you’ll gain weight. Run on empty, and your body will burn fat to survive. It’s all about finding the right balance.
DYNAMIC WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS
The ecosystem has adapted in dangerous ways. Some creatures hunt. Others flee. You’ll have to learn the hard way which is which.
CRAFTING AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Scavenge for materials and forgotten tech. Craft survival gear and prepare for brutal heatwaves and sandstorms. The right tools can mean the difference between life and death.
REAL-TIME HEAT AND WEATHER SYSTEM
Afterheat features a fully dynamic temperature and weather simulation:
Days bring blistering heat, while nights could drop below freezing
Environmental factors like shadows, wind, and clothing dynamically affect your body temperature
Sandstorms and heatwaves are more than visuals—they’re deadly
A STORY OF MYSTERY AND ISOLATION
Discover the remnants of a broken world. Uncover forgotten messages, ruins, and signs of what led to humanity’s downfall.
This isn’t just survival—it’s about understanding the past and finding a reason to keep going.
IN ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT
Afterheat is being developed by a solo developer who’s focused on building a raw, atmospheric survival experience—without microtransactions, pay-to-win, or filler content.
What you see now is early. The game is still growing.
Expect regular updates during development, with improvements to:
Graphics and world detail
Sound and atmosphere
Wildlife and ecosystem behavior
Game systems, UI, game mechanics, and performance
All screenshots shown are from early prototype builds and do not represent final quality.
❤️ SHAPE THE FUTURE OF AFTERHEAT
Afterheat is a passion project focused on immersion, depth, and challenge. Your feedback as a player will directly shape the development path of the game.
If you're interested, please consider adding Afterheat to your wishlist—it really helps support indie development.
Wishlist now. Survive the heat.
Discover what remains.

Improved Dynamic Heatmap System - Devlog #2
Devlog #2 – Dynamic Heatmap System ImprovementYesterday, I worked on a complete overhaul of the Dynamic Heatmap System that controls the distribution of heat across the map in Afterheat. The goal of this update was to make the system more realistic, stable, and immersive. What is the Dynamic Heatmap System? The Dynamic Heatmap System is based on a grid covering the entire game map. Each grid cell holds its own temperature value that updates dynamically based on several factors, including:The sun’s position and directionThe base heat intensity of the sunShadow and lighting conditions in the areaWind strength and directionVarious local environmental influencesThis setup ensures that temperatures vary naturally across the map — for example, cooler temperatures in shaded areas or near water, and hotter temperatures in direct sunlight. What has been improved? In this update, I have:Fixed several bugs that caused unrealistic temperature fluctuations and sudden jumpsEnhanced shadow handling so areas not directly exposed to sunlight stay coolerSmoothed transitions between hot and cold zones for a more seamless gameplay experienceOptimized calculations for better performance without sacrificing realismWhy does this matter?A more accurate and dynamic heatmap system creates a more alive and challenging survival experience. Players will need to consider where it’s hot or cool, seek shade or shelter, and plan their activities around changing weather and temperature conditions in the game world.Inventory System ProgressI’ve also been working on the Inventory System recently. The current focus is on making it stable and user-friendly as a foundation for future features.Upcoming Work: Looting System & Crafting PlansToday, I plan to improve the looting system, aiming for more balanced and dynamic item spawning across the map.Next week, I hope to start working on a Crafting system. Players will be able to harvest cactus plants and use specific tools to extract water from them. This shoul...Read full article on Community Announcements (TheTinnieBoi)AnnouncementsOfficial
Closed Pre-Alpha v0.0.2 - Devlog #1
Dear gamers,Welcome to the first official Afterheat devlog, written during the ongoing Closed Pre-Alpha phase. Development is progressing steadily, and we're working hard to prepare the game for its eventual Early Access launch. While no release date is set just yet, it will be announced well in advance.🐺 Wildlife AIOver the past weeks, I’ve focused heavily on developing and fine-tuning a dynamic AI system for wildlife, with special attention to predator behavior. The goal is to make animals feel reactive, natural, and believable — both in how they hunt, roam, and flee.🌦️ Dynamic Weather, Temperature & OverheatingIn parallel, I've implemented the foundation of a dynamic weather system, featuring a highly detailed temperature simulation:The world is divided into small chunks, each with unique weather and temperature properties.Temperature is influenced by many factors: solar position, solar intensity, radiation, shadows, humidity, wind, and local terrain features. There is now an overheating mechanic — if the temperature gets too high, players will suffer heat-related effects, making sun exposure a real survival threat.🧥 Clothing SystemTo help players survive the extreme conditions, a clothing system is being developed. Clothing items will offer varying levels of heat protection, and selecting the right outfit for the environment will be crucial.🌄 Day-Night Cycle & Ambient SoundsThe sun now moves dynamically based on the in-game clock, affecting lighting and temperature across the map.The sound system which is currently being developed is also tied to time of day:Daytime includes ambient sounds like wind and birds.Night brings quieter, more atmospheric audio for a calmer, immersive tone.🌬️ Wind, Shade & Environment EffectsObjects in the world, such as rocks, trees, or shelters, now influence the local heatmap. Being in the shade or near certain structures can significantly reduce heat exposure. A wind system is also being planned, which will influence local temperatur...Read full article on Community Announcements (TheTinnieBoi)
