July Devlogs & Diversions
My dearest friends and detested enemies, I am still alive. Of my 38 letters in Season 1, I have implemented 10. I also added a chase sequence to when the enemies take over your house, so that's pretty fun. I also made No AI stamps for all my store pages and sooooo so much art. I am on schedule now, but the Move Back TM threatens to press wrinkles into the best laid plans of mice and men. *shrugs* What can you do? So it goes.I also designed, wrote, and did art for the Toasty Time Game Jam -- and made an entire tiny RPG in a week! It's called Abattoir of You & I and it got 8th place by popular vote and 6th place by judge's decision. Pretty proud of that one! Some of the art and sound effects can be reused for All the Promised Burn, so it wasn't even an entire wash! If you are interested in smart, magic orphans running away from an evil orphanage, like I was as a child, then this will perfectly scratch that itch. It's kinda like The Promised Neverland meets Blades in the Dark.I also also re-did the entire art and layout for my TTRPG -- formerly known as Little World of Fates, now known as"the Yssaia TTRPG" -- if you cannot wait for All the Promised Burn to release, then please go write your own stories in Yssaia - the TTRPG!Lastly lastly, I started doing some experiments with short form content. And I think the actual answer is that all my short form content is doing better than all of my long form content at this point lolol. I should just switch to all shortform, ngl. Like, it is NOTICEABLY converting into Wishlists on Steam. I think. It could also just be statistical noise. Who knows?I continue to think a lot about my identity and how I want to live my life and stuff. Am I leading the right kind of life? What would it mean if I was? Am I becoming the kind of person I want to be? Do I even need to do that, or can I just be done having character development already? And -- since I'm a the sort of person whose confidence is fickle as the moon -- even if I achieve all t...Read full article on Community Announcements (Amaiguri)AnnouncementsOfficial
Our June Devlog
"Amaiguri, what have you been DOING since you finished your script?"Good question: VACATIONING! 🧉😎🛌🏻I was visiting friends and family, getting Wedding photos taken, visiting fancy restaurants, etc.And while I was vacationing, I also:Added my first letter to the gamePlanned out the rest of the year of marketing and videosLined up a new YouTube collaborationWritten 3 other videosAND made a production schedule through the end of SummerNow, SUMMER is 53 Workdays, 78 Calendar Days from June 14th to August 31st. That's at least 6 fortnights! So, what's on that production schedule, you may ask?Letters 1-27RAM Management (We've already done this now!)A NEW Conlang Puzzle!?!?! (This is already in the game too now!)One more map to draw 😭But now, I'm back from vacation! And the very first thing I did when I got back... was clean. But the very SECOND thing I did when I got back was start implementing the story chapters -- or "Letters", as we call them -- of the script into the game. I started on Letter 8, and we have gotten all the way through Letter 11 into the game. Woot! Now, let me tell you... I am already behind on this new schedule. Thank GOD that overall, I am being slightly less ambitious -- I am only going to try to release "Season 1" of my game by the end of the year. Which is looking like the first 38 letters. And that's much less scary than trying to do 189 letters by the end of the year. Yay! Initially, I was also planning on doing all my art ahead of time. But now, I am doing art as I go -- and this might be the thing has slowed me down... But as more art gets done, that's more art I can reuse. So hypothetically, it should start taking me less time, as time progresses! Here is some of said art:We also also actually wrote all the random NPC dialogue in the big southern city, so now you can chat with everybody! Woot woot! Now you can make friends! There's even custom dialogue, for if you're playing as specific characters. The characters you decide to control to explor...Read full article on Community Announcements (Amaiguri)AnnouncementsOfficial
Locked-In: The Script is DONE!
To all my dearest Parasocialites,I have the most excellent news: The story of ALL THE PROMISED BURN has been outlined, written, playtested, and edited. It is done. It is such a huge weight off my back. I am so pleased with how I've tuned it here, at the end. And if I were to suddenly die now, you could still understand the vision -- you could have the script, most of the art, the gameplay... why, you could even ASSEMBLE it without me! I could even RELEASE the game episodically into Early Access. In a week here, I have a big YouTube video going over the whole process. BUT I didn't script that video. And let me tell you: I do not think optimally at talking speed. I think optimally at writing speed. Why didn't I just script the video? I dunno, man. If we're being too real: I looked cute and I was losing the light. *sobs* The things we do for YouTube...Anyway, this blog post is gonna cover the some parts of the process that slipped through the cracks of the video:Soooo, the protagonist is basically a self-insert? Are any of the other characters inspired by people in your real life?Yeah, haha! There's a lot of stigma around self-inserts but if it's good enough for Dante's Inferno, it's good enough for me. And all of my characters are like different slices of my brain anyway -- I feel it's very important to be able to have empathy for my POV characters. I don't like to write for someone who I don't understand on some level -- especially if I am framing them as a bad and toxic person (which all my characters are, tbh), and so if I were in their scenarios with their circumstances going on, I would likely make the same decisions as them. I've just always been the kind of person who has treated media as a place to practice having difficult emotions -- so when I make something, what better thing to do than to practice going through my OWN emotions? I also definitely over-explain as a trauma response -- but if I just write a giant story to give you empathy for me, now I get to m...Read full article on Community Announcements (Amaiguri)AnnouncementsOfficial
All the Promised Burn is OFFICIALLY in Development!
How's it going? My friends and parasocial darlings, All the Promised Burn -- my hand-drawn knowledge-based RPG -- is officially in development! Please be excited to translate (fictional) dead languages into living ones, try cooking real recipes with fake food, and cry at the growing distance between you and the people you've left behind. There will be screaming into the void AND big fluffy cats to hug. It'll be a wondrous time. Woot woot! What even IS a "Knowledge-based" RPG?It's when you go around and read things to increase your Knowledge Stats, and then use your big Knowledge Stats to gradually open up more of the world. The story will be like a JRPG -- I've been describing it colloquially as "anime Game of Thrones." There IS a combat mini-game and there IS a food-eating mini-game, but it's mostly about learning things to make your numbers go up!What does "In-Development" mean?It means the team (read: just me) wakes up in the morning, works on my game all day, and then sleeps every single day until it's done! (Jk, I have work-life balance... maybe.) It's actually been in development for a while, but posting on a new site for the first time is always a little intimidating... It's just me, after all! Historically, I have been posting my devlogs over on my itch.io and my YouTube so if you just can't wait for me to write another devlog, please head over! When will it release?Good question. As soon as possible! Ideally, sometime this year (2026)! I have no plans to do Early Access, but I MIGHT do some free updates and free even story DLC after it releases!Who even are you?I'm Amaiguri -- at least, on most places on the internet. I'm a professional game writer and designer but in my spare time -- er, well, I also make games and write. I also draw, film, make dolls and languages, play lyre and ocarina, etc. You know how this goes. I make Things TM.I've had a series of imaginary worlds for as long as I can remember and instead of “growing out of them” as I got older, they j...Read full article on Community Announcements (Amaiguri)
