Embark on a strategic journey to rekindle life by crafting potions and claiming ancient sites. Experience the depth of Oduvan Games' digital adaptation of the beloved Potion-Making board game series.

About this game

First released in 2005 by game designer Sergey Machin, Potion Making: Practice quickly became a standout tabletop title. The board game received multiple awards, was featured in game design textbooks, and sold over 300,000 copies, earning its place as a true classic. In 2024, an updated version was released, expanding the lore and gameplay of the original.

Now, you can compete for the title of master alchemist on PC. No more manual calculations, no setup required — and distance is no longer a barrier. Play with friends from anywhere in the world.

LORE

At the dawn of time, the Great Alchemist used the power of the Philosopher’s Stone to create the Primordial Tree. It transformed the void into a magical world filled with life. Travelers from distant realms came to study at the School of Magic and the Library of Five Worlds.

But that was a long time ago.

Everything changed when the brilliant master Alexander Fulcanelli cast a forbidden spell upon the essence of emptiness. The balance was broken, and the magical world began to fade.

With its last strength, the Primordial Tree preserved what remained and now calls upon skilled alchemists to fix the mistake. Answer the call, journey through three Places of Power, and overcome the destructive spell.

PATH OF THE ALCHEMIST

Cast spells and brew potions to reach the Places of Power before your opponents and claim victory. Every completed recipe is a chance to pull ahead.

Spell
Use spells and harness the power of magical talismans.
Gain extra actions, acquire ingredients, or even create ready-made potions.

Craft
Choose a potion to craft, combine elements from your ingredient pool, or take what you need from your opponents.
The more complex the recipe, the greater the reward.

Movement
Every potion you brew brings you closer to victory.
Earn movement tokens and advance across the board. Plan your route carefully and don’t forget about talisman spaces — they can give you a valuable advantage.

Refill
Draw new cards and prepare for your next turn.
Recipes from different decks vary in complexity — and in reward.

EXPLORE THE WORLD

Play across a variety of unique boards. With a single click, you can move the action from an ancient library to dense jungles — or into a frozen kingdom of ice and snow.

Available maps:

  • Library of Five Worlds

  • Floating Islands

  • The Great Forest

  • Snow Kingdom

  • Valley of Creation

The last three introduce additional challenges — thick overgrowth, icy terrain, and even strange magical bubbles. The more dangerous the map, the more dynamic the game.

ONLINE & SOLO PLAY

Play your way — compete online or practice on your own. Whether you want to challenge other alchemists or test strategies against AI opponents, you can jump into a match whenever you’re ready.

Online Multiplayer
Compete with other players from around the world.

AI Matches
A computer opponent is always ready for a match.

DLC

The world of Potion Making: Practice will continue to expand. Planned content includes:

[DLC] Story Campaign
Face Fulcanelli and restore balance as you progress through a narrative set in the ruined world of the Primordial Tree.

[DLC] School of Magic
A classic score-based mode where alchemists compete for efficiency. The player with the most points wins.

[DLC] Heroes & Villains
Choose a character with unique abilities and build your strategy around them. Will you become a dark warlock or an archmage?

Playtest Build Update - Reworked Tutorial, Sounds and Camera!

Hello from the Oduvan Games team! We’ve prepared a major update and are excited to share it with you. We’ve focused on making your first steps into the game smoother, clearer, and more enjoyable. All of these changes are already available in the new build. So let’s take a closer look! What’s changed?Completely revamped tutorialThe tutorial is now a separate mission that takes you from the beginning of a match all the way to your first Place of Power. Along the way, you’ll learn all the core mechanics step by step. For example, the old tutorial didn’t explicitly explain that all ingredients and potions on the table are shared, meaning other players can use them in their own recipes. Now we make that clear right away! And whenever you need a refresher, you can always replay the tutorial.Improved audioPhase changes, brewing potions, adding ingredients to recipes, and many other actions now have their own unique sounds. So if an opponent decides to snatch your potion during their turn, you’ll definitely hear it.Added 16:10 aspect ratio and touchscreen supportThe game now displays correctly on monitors and laptops with a 16:10 aspect ratio, as well as on Steam Deck. On touchscreen devices, you can play by tapping the elements on the screen.Completely revamped cameraYou can now see the entire game board and table at once. Zooming in and out feels much smoother.Added an encyclopediaThe game now includes an encyclopedia with explanations of all the terms, rules, and mechanics. Forgot how something works or came across an unfamiliar term? Just open the relevant entry directly from the main menu! This isn’t everything we’re working on. There are still plenty of changes to come as we make our way toward release. If you’ve already taken part in the playtest, be sure to jump back in and see what’s changed. And if you haven’t played yet, now is the perfect time to request access!Add the game to your wishlist and share your feedback with us!Happy experimenting, alchemists!

    Closed playtest coming soon!

Greetings from the Oduvan Games team! In 2026, Potion-Making: Path of the Alchemist will bring the beloved board game Potion-Making to digital platforms. Sign-ups for the closed playtest will open on June 23th.Potion-Making is a card game where players collect magical ingredients and transform simple starter potions into increasingly powerful creations. The original board game has become a true classic, with more than 300,000 boxes sold over the past two decades. The digital adaptation expands the game's universe with new lore and story elements. Discover the Story Behind Potion-MakingThe game tells the story of the world of Potion-Making. Long ago, the Great Alchemist created the source of life, the First Tree, filling the world with magic. One day, the brilliant but mad alchemist Alexander Fulcanelli cast a forbidden spell over the Essence of Void, and the world began to fall into decline. Using the last of its strength, the First Tree saved the world from destruction. Now it calls upon you, the Chosen Ones, who may be able to rekindle the flame of life once again. Master the Art of Alchemy At the heart of the game lies a recipe system. Simple elements combine into potions, potions become elixirs, and elixirs can be transformed into even more powerful alchemical creations, including mythical creatures. Every discovery becomes part of a larger combination and unlocks new recipes to explore. But alchemy is only part of the journey.Creating elixirs and creatures rewards players with movement tokens, allowing them to travel to Places of Power. The first player to visit three different Places of Power wins the game. To succeed, you'll need to discover the most efficient recipe chains, plan your route across the map, keep an eye on your opponents, and use previously crafted potions in new experiments. Sometimes the ingredient you need is already sitting on another alchemist's table. The challenge is claiming the opportunity before anyone else does.Join the Closed Playte...
