Shards of the Library is a story-driven simulation and puzzle game with farming elements and mysterious events that unfold within a strange library.
Players can:
Explore a small open-world village with seasonal changes and a day/night cycle
Complete 90+ quests involving farming, cooking, potion crafting, and toolmaking
Interact with 40+ unique NPCs and engage in systems like music performance, painting, and writing
Enter procedurally generated forests and caves
Build relationships, discover secrets, and collect artifacts
The game also features fishing, monster encounters, item crafting (70+), farming crops (15+ types), skill learning (50+), and more.
Even after completing the main quests, players can continue enjoying daily farm life at their own pace.
📖 Game Story
One day, the protagonist receives a letter from their grandfather, asking them to take care of his farm while he goes on an unexpected journey.
After arriving and settling into a quiet rural life, the protagonist visits the town library—only to discover that something strange is happening through the books they borrow.
In a world where ordinary life and mystery are intertwined, players will gradually uncover hidden truths.
🛠 Developer's Note
This game is a solo-developed project created as part of a graduation portfolio, using skills learned from CSE360 and CSE412 courses.
It was inspired by titles such as Stardew Valley, Mabinogi, and Princess Maker.
All systems listed above are already implemented and playable.
Future updates may include polish, bug fixes, and small expansions based on player feedback.
We appreciate your understanding as development continues during Early Access.

# Shards of the Library - Unified Update & Developer Notes Hello, this is Joey, the developer of Shards of the Library. I would like to share our recent core system balancing, visual overhauls, localization updates, and future development plans with the Steam community. ## 🌐 Official Website Launch * You can now visit **(http://shardsofthelibrary.com)** to directly access our official game page and developer site! * Discover rich information, ranging from the Lorebook and Character Dictionary to the Item DB and detailed patch notes. --- ## 🛠️ Major Updates * **Stamina System Overhaul:** Stamina consumption during weapon attacks has been increased. Stamina passive skills have been applied, and cost balancing (ranging from 0.1 to 1) has been carefully adjusted. * **Equipment & Items:** A new foundational framework for class-specific equipment has been established. We are also replacing item meshes (such as food items) to capture a true classic RPG aesthetic. * **Zodiac System Integration:** Unique buffs and effects corresponding to each character's Zodiac sign have now been integrated into the game. --- ## 🎬 Visuals & Audio * **Cinematic Sequences Added:** We have successfully implemented a cinematic camera sequence that triggers the first time a player enters any map (level), along with logic to restrict player movement during the cutscene. * **Character & UI Polishing:** The main menu layout has been revamped. 📢 Development Update & New Official Website! Hello everyone! We have a lot of news to share today, including a major development update, upcoming plans, and the launch of our official game website! 1. Official Website Open! 🌐 We have just launched our official game page! You can now visit https://joeystickdev.github.io/ to access all important information in one place, including: Game Descriptions & Lorebook (Settings) News, Update Logs, and Devlogs Official Notices Steam Page link, Screenshots, and Roadmap 2. Visual & Character Modeling Updates ✨ Male Model Update: Textures have been significantly improved for a more natural look. (The female mesh is currently a work-in-progress and will be updated soon!) Hair Options: We've added more hair varieties that players can equip. Character Controller (CC): All CC collision and stuttering issues have been entirely removed, making movements much smoother. Portal Colors: The colors of the in-game portals have been modified. 3. Cinematic Camera System 🎥 We are currently experimenting with cinematic cameras to enhance immersion. Update Details - Fixed a bug where storage boxes were not properly removed when deleted. - After completing Main Story 0_3, players can now start the **Tutorial Guide Quest** from Leon. - The Tutorial Guide introduces various in-game activities. Completing specific missions grants experience points and government subsidies. - Fixed an overflow bug that occurred when money or experience exceeded the maximum Integer value. - Unstarted missions are now easier to identify in the Library app. - Improved the home teleport portal system. - Fixed UI font issues inside the Infinite Dungeon. --- ## 🌍 Localization Note The Korean patch is still in progress, and the English text is also being gradually refined.
