About this game

Inari - an Earth-like, resource-rich world - is up for the taking. Corporate colonies have coalesced into continent-spanning power blocs in a bid for total domination. As gaps of unclaimed land are squeezed between them, borders turn to bands of twisted steel and blasted earth, as both sides leverage the planet's bountiful resources, their own colossal industries, and generations of colonists, into pushing it one way or the other. All of it is yours to control, observe, and alter as you see fit. Welcome to SteelFront.

ENTER A WORLD OF WAR

Oversee and participate in Inari's perpetual, yet stagnant state of conflict, portrayed with a style inspired by classic 80s and 90s animation, and using a lo-fi, turn-of-the-millennium "LandWarrior-Core" military retrofuture aesthetic.

CREATE YOUR BATTLES

Position and deploy forces onto the battlefield, then watch the carnage unfold in auto-battles ranging from small, close-quarters infantry firefights to massive, combined-arms clashes.

MOD SUPPORT

Add weapons of your own design to your favorite faction's equipment pool, throw your own new factions into the arena, or create new fronts or worlds all your own using robust and versatile modding tools for units, factions, and maps.

    Prepping for Early Access

Our programmers have confirmed kills on multiple crashes and other game-breaking issues that have been hampering operations in the demo.We have updated the demo build with a battery of major fixes and updates, based on our previous Plans for 2026 update. In summary, that means new maps, upgraded interface, a basic orders system, and more! We expect this will be the final demo update to ensure all major issues have been resolved before we move forward into Early Access. As always, your testing and feedback helps make this possible: The more feedback we get, the better we're able to sort out the fundamentals, and the sooner we get to move onto the real meat of the game: Showing the world of Inari, expanding your arsenal, introducing new factions, and ensuring modding tools are smoothly implemented. We once again thank you for your patience and support, and look forward to seeing what you think!

    Our Plans for 2026

The battlefields of Inari are changing in 2026...Thanks to all the community feedback, playtesting, and bug reports, we've been able to make a lot of progress with features, fixes, and content over the past few months. We're still as limited as ever, with scant resources, a small, newly-formed team whose members are balancing multiple commitments, and all the curve-balls one might (or might not) expect from indie game-dev being thrown at us. Yet, despite the obstacles and frustrations, SteelFront is in some ways exceeding our original expectations, and is shaping up to be something we can really be proud of.Now that we're going into the new year, we're excited to show you what we have in store for the near future!New MapsIntroducing new locations showing the world of SteelFront! We're building new maps offering more varied layouts, encouraging more strategic play, creating more interesting and dynamic battles to watch or control, and fully realizing the planet of Inari, the continent of Atlea, and the nations and factions that call it home. Deploy to battlefields ranging from the nightmarish slum labyrinth of Shuguang's Dreg Strip, to the natural rocky bastions that jut out from the vast steppes of the New Gherris Salient, to the hyper-industrialized concrete deserts of AMDEC's interior. Get a preview of yet more battles to come with playable grayboxes and WIPs, and expect even more variety as we experiment with different layouts and locales!Unit Selection and OrdersTake control over the flow of battle!SteelFront may not be an RTS, and we don't plan to make it one, but with so many commanders crying out for a chance to actually command in at least some capacity, we just couldn't help but agree. You can now redirect units to alternate objectives by selecting them, and click-dragging their waypoint markers. We're also looking into even more ways to expand and exploit this feature, such as adding movement waypoints along their routes to create flanking maneuvers and ove...

    Demo Staying Live for Updates/Playtesting

Next Fest is coming to a close, but the battle never ends! We've had a number of bugs/crashes/compatibility issues to overcome since the demo was released - but be sure that we are working through them.. SteelFront aims high but that comes with challenges. We're a very small indy team, with limited time and limited budget, and we've chosen a difficult path. Massive NPC battles with thousands of infantry, tons of weapon types, configurations, projectiles, aiming and homing systems - it's a challenge. This is has been as much a tech demo as testing interest in the game itself..Thankfully, the detailed feedback everyone has been leaving on the demo has allowed us to identify and start to address the problems, and we've been hard at work on a battery of fixes. Also, getting a much needed moment to step back from continuous and ongoing dev work has given us a chance to see where we're at and where we need to be.That said - in order to make sure these fixes work, we're keeping the free demo live after Next Fest ends on October 20, and plan to continue updating it until all the crashes, chugging frames, and other major bugs are resolved. After that, we can start looking into an Early Access release with more content, better maps, more destruction, and general polish.Once again, we thank you all for your patience and support! Bear with us and we'll get SteelFront as awesome as we know it can be!
