Content notice: The Last Waltz features authentic Dancesport costuming, which, to a non-Dancesport audience, may appear to be revealing or "fanservicey," however, within the sport, these costumes are standard sportswear. The Last Waltz also features some descriptions of sexual activity within the story. These are not visualised and abstract in nature. There is a brief scene that involves violence, scenes that might come across as bullying, references to alcohol consumption and medical procedures. Again, these are never visualised but are themes and subjects covered in the text.

About this game
Dancing Is Life
A Visual Novel about the most beautiful sport of all, and the athletes behind it.
Strap yourself in for a 20-year journey that takes you through all the highlights of a Dancesport career, both on and off the dance floor. It’s a story filled with laughter, tears, joy and frustration that takes two dancers - Dee Dee and Micah - from the most humble of origins right through to the elite competition of their sport.
Not everyone has seen Dancesport in action before. You don’t need to, because you’re going to see plenty of it as you read through The Last Waltz’s deep story.
The game features:
11 chapters, covering an entire sporting career for two athletes.
Over 30 gorgeous key art CGs, showcasing both the dynamics of Dancesport, and life off the dance floor for these athletes.
Dozens of backgrounds and costumes for all the characters.
Comic art too, to show a lighter side of the sport!
A full, original soundtrack featuring more than 35 pieces of music. It’s all real Dancesport music that you can jive, samba, quickstep and rumba to!
Real footage of professional dancers and Dancesport competitions.

Why Do We Dance?
Dancesport athletes don’t compete at the Olympics. The world championships aren’t broadcast on television. Most people wouldn’t know if they passed a champion dancer on the street. And yet you would be hard-pressed to find people more passionate and committed to what they do than Dancesport athletes.
Their story is the focus of this game. You don’t need to know anything about dancing to experience The Last Waltz and walk away with the understanding of just what these athletes sacrifice for their sheer passion for their art and sport.

About The Game
Spanning a 20-year career in competitive ballroom dancing (i.e. Dancesport), The Last Waltz is the first visual novel about this wonderful, high-energy, visually intense sport (at least, as far as we can tell).
Through it, you’ll follow the story of Danica (Dee Dee), and her dance partner, Micah, from the first days of their partnership, right through to their final dance, many years later.
It is a story of highs and lows, with an intense focus on one of the most complex and dynamic relationships in sport.
The Last Waltz is an opportunity to see dancers in action, thanks to its unique use of real dance footage, blended into the anime aesthetics created by some of the finest independent artists. It’s an opportunity to hear the music they dance to, with an all-original and authentic soundtrack.
And it’s a chance to fall in love with a sport where the journey to become the best in the world is its own reward.
Who knows? It might even inspire you to sign up for classes at your own local studio!

Authenticity Matters!
With my visual novel, The Last Waltz, authenticity was always important. I worked very hard with my artist to ensure that every dance scene was accurate to how Dancesport actually looks, and I commissioned a 35-track soundtrack, with almost all the music being actual Dancesport compositions. And to prove just how authentic it all is, I sponsored one of the most important Dancesport championships in Australia. At this year's Oceania Dancesport Championship, they played music from The Last Waltz during the opens competition. You don't get more authentic than that. Enjoy watching some of Australia's top Dancesport athletes compete in Paso Doble, using music from The Last Waltz (and you'll be able to unlock more clips like this as you play the game):Read full article on Community Announcements (mattsainsbury2001)AnnouncementsOfficial
Interview: The Music of The Last Waltz (Part 1)
Authenticity matters in The Last Waltz. Dancesport is a unique sport in many ways, and the music used in Dancesport competitions is different to what you'd expect in a normal soundtrack. Dancesport music requires specific rhythms, structures, and tones, and for that reason, we knew early on that using existing music wouldn't really work for this project. We needed an OST. To achieve that, we worked with three different music artists, each contributing around 10 pieces of authentic Dancesport music. Today, we sat down with one of the artists, Jof, to discuss what was challenging and interesting in this project. Jof's background comes heavily from Hip-Hop tradition, so it was always going to be an interesting process for him to try his hand at a Waltz or Cha Cha. The results, however, are some of the most vibrantly different music that you'll hear in the soundtrack.1) What interested you in the project in the first place? I love making music, I love games, and I specifically am fond of visual novels, so being able to do music for one was an amazing opportunity! I also have always liked to do the unexpected, the unorthodox, and I love how this VN plays with the tropes while also subverting some of them. Being able to put that into my music was a great process.2) What was the experience of writing authentic Dancesport music like? Were there any particular highlights of note? It was challenging, it really was. I'm not a professionally trained composer, I usually make sample-based Hip-Hop music as a hobby. "Sample-based" means I take pieces of existing works and recontextualise them, combine them with other pieces, and create something new. It's like a musical collage. And just like making collages doesn't teach you how to paint, sampling doesn't teach you how to compose. But I do think, similar to making collages, that you develop a certain aesthetic sense. And with modern music production software, taking that aesthetic sense and turning it into music has become easier ...Read full article on Community Announcements (mattsainsbury2001)AnnouncementsOfficial
We sponsored a Dancesport Championship; Authenticity matters!
Authenticity matters a great deal in The Last Waltz. We have worked incredibly closely with the artists and musicians to ensure that everything that you'll see in the VN is true to the world of dancesport. Every pose in every CG is accurately modelled after figures that dancers perform in competition, and the soundtrack is all structurally and tonally correct to the various types of dance that make up the ten dances of Dancesport. And indeed, we've worked with real, world-class dancers, too, to integrate video footage into the game so you can see for yourself what the sport looks like in action.Given our total focus on authenticity, we're proud to announce that we're sponsoring the Oceania Dancesport Championship this year:This is one of the leading Dancesport competitions in Australia, and as you can see, also attracts performances from some of the world's best dancers. Thanks to our sponsorship, the competition will be using music from The Last Waltz, and we can't wait to see the dancers competing to it.If that pose looks familiar, it's because we used it as inspiration for The Last Waltz's key art. See? Authenticity really does mean everything to this project!Don't forget to wishlist, to be kept up to date on the game, the Dancesport championships, and more!Read full article on Community Announcements (mattsainsbury2001)AnnouncementsOfficial
First Hands-on Previews of The Last Waltz
Hello folks! This is our first announcement on Steam, and we'll continue to make little announcements, showcase interesting bits and pieces from behind the scenes, and share information as we get ever closer to the game's actual release. What I wanted to use this first update for is to share a couple of previews of the game. We gave a couple of people in the specialist games press access to an early demo so they could get a feel for what The Last Waltz offered and how it was shaping up. They got to play through the first three chapters (of 11), which introduced them to all the characters and the storytelling of the VN. You can read their thoughts here: MoeGamer: The Last Waltz showcases dancesport to educate and inspire Nook Gaming: The Last Waltz - Early Preview Stay tuned for more! And, of course, if you have any questions about The Last Waltz, ask away and we shall answer.Read full article on Community Announcements (mattsainsbury2001)
