About this game

EVERY RACE IS DIFFERENT.

This is Rattus VELOCITAS, an arcade racing game where Rats with Jet-powered hoverbikes compete for pole position in procedurally generated race courses! Collect items to give yourself an advantage or take out the competition in this high speed rodent frenzy!

RACE IN VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTS!

5 different environments are available to race in, all with randomised race course layouts, including Desert, Forest, Space Station, The Volcanic Region and a suspiciously race track shaped beach. Some races even happen at different times of day, with varying hazards to watch out for!

COLLECT ITEMS TO BOOST YOUR SPEED OR TAKE OUT THE COMPETITION!

5 different items are obtainable in-race, including Missiles, Bombs, two types of Cheese, Portable Dash Ring projectors and Shields. There's also a 6th mysterious item... Legends say it reacts explosively to shields.

MULTIPLE WAYS TO PLAY!

To begin with, you'll only have a single mode. However, once onboarded to the Rat Race, you'll unlock more ways to start races, including choosing your desired race environment and CPU racer difficulty or even replaying a previous race course random seed! Alpha, Beta and Gamma class thrusters set the speed for your racing experience, with faster thrusters making for more exhilarating races!

FANCY RAT COLOURS AWAIT.

Up to 7 fancy rat colour patterns are selectable to customise your Rat, with additional colour patterns being unlockable with certain milestones!

PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS!

This game can be enjoyed on your own or with up to 4 players on a single PC!
With the introduction of the Online mode update, it is now also possible to play with friends across the internet!
Play Quick Race against random players or setup your own lobby with friends to race in for the ultimate curated multiplayer experience.*

    Thursday bug bash

G'day Rat Racers! This new update fixes bugs, improves performance and adds some goodies that didn't initially make it into the last major update. This update also updates the Game Manual significantly to bring it up to date with the Anniversary update!Improvements:Improved GPU performance in cases where the GPU was pixel shader or texture fillrate bound.Increased the brightness of Beach's night time lighting.Improved responsiveness of the game's dynamic resolution scaling under high GPU load. This should resolve performance issues at high GPU load on some older PCs.Added an approximate latency measurement to the in-race HUD; this displays how delayed online race interactions may be, in ms, and is affected both by the system performance and the network latency of all players in the lobby. NOTE: This value may be different across systems in the same lobby; this is normal and is no cause for concern.Improved disconnection detection for players in lobbies with mixed Direct/relay network connections.Changes:CPU players now use random names instead of a CPU number & Rat fur colour.Bugfixes:Fixed a bug where the LOADING indicator could vanish too early on game boot while the game was still prewarming shaders.Fixed a bug where the game's in-race HUD would become stuck on in the background of the results scoreboard if a player changed their race POV to spectate another player after finishing their race.Fixed a bug where Shields would sometimes be instantly destroyed when used in replays made from online races.Fixed a bug where Missiles that would target a player behind another player in online mode and score a hit could visually appear to miss on the thrower's screen.Fixed a bug where it was possible for all players in an online lobby to get stuck in an infinite "Waiting for Players" loop if the lobby master's client disconnected before the race fully began.Fixed a bug where it was possible to accidentally load into a Quick Race while exiting an online race while playing Rat...

    Rattus Velocitas hotfix released.

G'day again, Rat Racers! This small hotfix resolves an issue where CPU players would overzealously avoid obstacles that were well out of the way, making them comically easy to beat in cases where they should have been pressuring a well-performing player a lot more. In particular, Forest races should be completely fixed now!

THE new update has been released; this is part 2 of the Anniversary update, also previously known as the multiple laps update.Yes, it's been over 1 year since Rattus Velocitas Launched! For those reading this who have purchased the game, I thank you all for the support for this game so far. With this update, all achievement icons in your Steam Library should now be present; they were finished alongside this update. This update was originally slated for release on the 9th of July AEST, but QA caught a few snags that had to be polished off. I apologise for the wait!Highlights:Lap-based dynamic lighting! Desert, Forest and Beach now have varying light conditions based on how many laps the track generated with. Some differing lighting conditions even have their own hazards!Added a new Stage Hazard to Desert: Feral Hovercats. Only appearing at Night, these feline enemies will target players distracting themselves with Cheese in any way, shape or form. Don't get caught snacking!Added a new Stage Hazard to Forest: Lightning Strikes. Only appearing during storms, these powerful bolts slow players on contact. Thruster Classes are now in the game. Alpha thrusters are the original game speed, while new Beta and Gamma Thrusters enable you to go even faster!Rattus Velocitas Replay 2 is now in the game. This replaces the old replay system; Legacy format Replays will remain compatible for now. This new replay format reproduces online mode races to 99% accuracy, even in cases where there's mild packet loss on any player's connection at the time of recording. Improvements:Beach and Volcanic now have new backgrounds.Beach's and Volcanic's lighting has been improved for 3-lap races.Improved the look of shorelines on Beach where the Water meets the Sand and other objects.Improved CPU players' handling of difficult turns that lead to going out of bounds.Improved CPU players' ability to avoid obstacles that are really narrow.Improved hit detection for Bombs in online rac...

G'day Rat Racers,If you found Laps and Finishes sometimes not counting in online multiplayer, this hotfix resolves this issue. Changes:Fixed a bug where laps/finishes weren't counting when crossing the finish line if at least one player in the lobby had high latency. Depending on total race course length, you'll get either a 3-lap race, a 2-lap race or a 1-lap race. The Cheese Supreme item has been added to the game.
