Indie, Strategy · More free games

Take control of a nomadic train city in this indie strategy game where survival hinges on resource management and strategic decisions. Navigate the harsh, war-ravaged landscape as you gather supplies and keep your engine running.

About this game

The moon is shattered. The world has frozen.

The wars that followed plunged humanity into endless winter. Your last hope is the Frostliner, a colossal train built to survive the cold and carry survivors across a frozen Earth. Scattered pockets of humanity cling to life in small, isolated communities, and most stops you make will offer the chance to bring new people aboard.

On its steel tracks, you will carve a path across a frozen Earth, adapting your mobile city to meet the needs of those who call it home. Explore a handcrafted world and follow a gripping, linear narrative as you chase warmth, safety, and the faint promise of a future at the end of the line. Somewhere out there lies the key to a lasting refuge, hidden away and waiting to be found.

Transform your train into a thriving city on rails. Use the Factory to build new carriages, then fill them with essential facilities to keep your passengers alive, produce vital resources, and research breakthrough technologies. Place your buildings wisely, as facilities gain powerful adjacency bonuses that make your Frostliner stronger and more efficient the longer it grows.

The engine hungers. To keep moving, you must stop and scavenge for fuel, supplies, and survivors. But when the train stops, the heat dies, leaving you with only your limited reserve batteries to fend off the killing frost. Every halt is a race against time, and every stop is a choice between safety and risk.

The cold is not your only enemy. Other threats stalk the frozen rails. Arm your Frostliner with defensive weaponry to fight them off, or push the engine to its limits and outrun them before they close in.

Meet the team, and 20k wishlists

We've hit 20k wishlists just 1 month after the games announcement, because of the great reception I'm excited to announce that we now have a team working on Frostliner. Let's take a look at our small indie team from Perth, Western Australia.Josiah - Lead ArtistYou might know him from other games he's worked on like Warhammer 40k: Battlesector and Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock. He's an incredible artist and i'm looking forward to how much better the train and the rest of the game will look with him on-board.Liz - Lead ProgrammerLiz has been programming for over 10 years with a specialty of working in game engines. She has spent a lot of her professional career simulating heavy mining machinery and vehicles, which means she will be a great fit for making a massive train.Nathan - Lead DeveloperI'm mainly a programmer but with extra skills in design, UX and management so i'll be working as a bit of generalist by working on all parts of the game. I'll also be spending my time doing the necessary but boring legal/business work, and i'll be the one writing these updates. All of us have a lifelong passion for gaming and games development and have built our professional careers to give us the skills we need to make this game. The three of us will be able to accomplish so much more than I could have as a solo developer. All major updates and announcements will be done through Steam, so remember to press the Follow button on the store page to stay up to date. And we have a discord now, so come say hi to the new team members! https://discord.gg/RFXsSy9V9z

10,000 wishlists in the first week, what's next and a Discord server

I want to sincerely say "Thank you" to every single person that wishlisted the game and shared it with others. The positivity and support around this game has meant so much to me.What's NextTo keep people up to date on what's happening next, I've adjusted my plans to have a focus on expanding the core team working on the game. This will slow down development on the game in the short term, but I believe the sooner I bring extra people on the better everything will go in the long run.Specifically i'm going to be working my way around:Making a business, and all the legal stuff that goes along with that.Bringing in new team members and getting them up to speed.Applying for a bit of external funding. Some people have asked why i'm making this game, so here are my list of priorities in order for Frostliner:I want to make and release a game i'm proud of.I want people to play and enjoy the game.I don't want to lose money.I want to make enough money that I can support the game for a long time.DiscordFinally, there is a Discord server up now! https://discord.gg/RFXsSy9V9zI wont be active in there all the time since i'm trying to keep my focus on making the game itself, but i'd love to see what cool suggestions people can come up with. The best way to get announcements will always be to press Follow on the Steam page. I'll try to post a general update on what's happening once or twice a month. Thanks again to you all!
