About this game

AudioSpeed is an audio game centred on high-speed races between spaceships. Totally accessible for blind players

In the far future, pilots race not cars, but starships on a number of orbital tracks.

With high gravity, hyperspacial acceleration and hazards such as nebulae this is an extremely dangerous sport.

The main tournament of the game takes place on 7 tracks, culminating in a showdown at the system Hydra, where only the toughest pilots will survive.

Players select from various starships, each with unique stats for

  • speed

  • maneuverability

  • armor

  • acceleration

  • robo-navigator efficiency.

Options include practicing on the first five tracks or competing in the tournament. Because the tournament requires achieving specific, challenging times to avoid disqualification, strong racing skills are necessary.

System Requirements

Will my PC run this? →

Minimum

Minimum:
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: 64-bit dual-core 2.0 GHz (Intel Core i3-2100 / AMD equivalent)
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Any DirectX 11 compatible GPU, integrated graphics included (Intel HD Graphics 4000)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 500 MB available space
  • Sound Card: Any DirectX compatible sound card. Stereo output required, headphones strongly recommended
  • Additional Notes: AUDIOSPEED is a fully audio-based racing game: it can be played from start to finish without looking at the screen. Stereo audio output is required (headphones recommended) because track orientation, opponents and hazards are conveyed by stereo positioning. The 3D graphics are purely illustrative and very light. No screen reader is needed: the game speaks every menu entry and every race event and also prints the same text on screen as a subtitle.

Recommended

Recommended:
  • OS: Windows 11 64-bit
  • Processor: 64-bit quad-core 2.5 GHz (Intel Core i5 / AMD Ryzen 3 or better)
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Any DirectX 12 compatible GPU
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 500 MB available space
  • Sound Card: Stereo headphones, or good quality stereo speakers
  • Additional Notes: Closed stereo headphones give the best results: the position of the track, of the other ships and of the hazards is read entirely through stereo panning.

Eleven languages, and a new way to beat your sighted friends

The demo on Steam has been updated, and it is a big one.ELEVEN LANGUAGESWe started with three. AUDIOSPEED now speaks Italian, English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Russian and Hindi. And not just the menus: interface, full voice-over, subtitles, the navigator calling your corners, the crowd telling you how badly it went. All of it, in every one of them, with a native voice for each. It still guesses your language on the first launch.AUDIO VS. VIDEO MULTIPLAYERTwo players, one keyboard, one race. Player one drives by ear, the way the game is meant to be played. Player two drives by sight, watching the screen. Same track, same moment, two completely different jobs.If you have ever tried to explain to a sighted friend what playing an audiogame is actually like: stop explaining, hand them the keyboard and beat them.NEW RIVALS ON THE GRIDThe ships you race against used to be rough shapes bolted together in a hurry. They are now six proper sculpted starships, picked at random every race. And they no longer dip into the track surface at the bottom of their hover: that one had been quietly bothering us for a while.WISHLIST AUDIOSPEEDThe full game is coming: the tournament, all seven tracks, every ship and a global leaderboard. The demo is here now, free. The wishlist button is at the top of this page. Please use it. It costs you one click and nothing else, but it is the single most useful thing you can do for this game: Steam decides who gets shown to whom largely on that number, and an audiogame does not turn up in many people's feeds by accident. Every wishlist puts AUDIOSPEED in front of someone who has never been told that a racing game can be played with the monitor switched off.And keep telling us what you think. This demo is still the opening lap.
