Dive into Black Hole Fishing, where each catch leads to endless breeding and optimization. Perfect your fish and stock them in an expanding pond as the singularity grows ever closer.

About this game

Black Hole Fishing is an incremental game about catching absurd numbers of fish using a black hole. Suck fish straight out of the pond, automate restocking and perform questionable fish science. Upgrade it all. Repeat.

Build the World's Most Ridiculous Fish Pond

Start with a humble pond. Catch exotic fish, stock your waters, and then remove those fancy fish from reality using a hungry singularity. Feed the black hole to make it stronger. Bigger the hole, better the fishing.

Do Extremely Normal Fish Science

Why wait for evolution when you can speedrun it. Inject traits directly into your fish. Paint them. Compare your fish. Choose the winners. Cross-breed them and see what happens. Launch your favorites out of a cannon for profit and bonuses. This is all for fun and definitely not concerning!

Unlock powerful tools like the Large Halibut Collider™, combine fish at alarming speeds, discover all six Quantum Sharks, and push your understanding of mysterious singularities far beyond what anyone asked for.

Important Features:

  • Throw rocks to scare fish into the black hole

  • Stock the pond with fish

  • Upgrade your stockers (and everything else)

  • Catch fish in the wild

  • Compare your fish to only use the best

  • Research your fish for science

  • Paint and Inject your fish to Maximize their profitability

  • Cross-breed your best fish in the hatchery to Discover new traits and Optimize your profits

  • Fire your favorite fish out of a cannon to trigger bonus effects

  • Operate a particle collider for science!

As your operation grows, you will start to uncover the true mystery of the Fishy Business, and its equally fishy clientele. The upgrades keep coming, the payouts get bigger, and the whole thing starts to feel bigger than just fishing.

Where are these fish going? Who is paying you? Don't overthink it, let's just catch some fish!

A very fishy update has finally arrived!

Fall update: Fish IQ, and the Codex, Too!Hey, friends! Welcome back to another Black Hole Fishing update! I've been releasing some smaller stealth updates over the past few months, but it's finally time to pull all those changes together and throw a big party! If you haven't played in a while (or still have the game on your wishlist), then now's a great time to jump (back) in!Now with smarter fish:Let's start with the headliner feature: Fish are smart, and they now come with little icons! These icons come with tool-tips that describe the fish's behavior at a glance. This fish scares others away, this fish swims in schools, etc. This gives you much more power when choosing your fish - pick the best combination of traits, behaviors, and boosts to maximize profits! And better trait details:The codex now shows way more details about each fish and trait. If you're looking to optimize, you can now easily compare stat multipliers, science values, or synergy boosts. We also have mass ranges now, so you can see the smallest and biggest fish you caught. (This also means mass is the one value you don't know up-front, so go catch a whopper if you want to see how big a Bass can get!)Finally, I cleaned up the UI, so there are some pretty colors on the cards :)Speaking of UI:I also did a fair bit of clean-up in multiple game scenes. There was a bunch of leftover polish work after launch, and this update contains the majority of it! I won't go through the whole list, but keep an eye out for some fancy looking bits and bobs (like a color bomb bar that actually sparkles).I also did a localization pass, so we shouldn't have any language overruns any more. If you see something, say something, but I believe I got them all. Finally, safety. We unfortunately have had a few issues regarding save games. I patched the autosave system, and haven't heard any new reports of lost (corrupted) saves in a while. But, I would occasionally get a sad bit of feedback from a player who forgot to put their ...

Performance patch and bugfixing (V 1.0.4.8)

Changelog: There were a lot of small changes in this one, but here are the highlights: 1. Performance is increased. I see a 2X framerate improvement on my computer, but ymmv. 2. We added 3 save slots and gave the save system one more look-over. Auto-saves are easier to access now, some players were getting confused and a couple overwrote a save file on accident. This should be much harder to do now. 3. There was a bug where the magazine disappeared on prestige under certain circumstances. 4. I looked through the backlog and fixed as many bugs as possible. So if you still see anything, let me know. Otherwise, let's assume that the game is bug free 😆 Notes: I've been slowly working on some new features, but the churn was getting pretty big, so I wanted to get the performance patch out first. The next update should be much smaller (in terms of code changes), but more impactful on actual gameplay.

Summer Update - What's new, and what's next?

Summer Update - What's new, and what's next?Hey, friends! I just wanted to share an update on Black Hole Fishing. It's been a little while (I got to learn about burnout 🙃), but I'm back and updating again. Here's what's new, and what's still coming:Do you hear that?Right before the game launched, Peter from BerryNote () reached out and offered to make us a custom, dynamic soundtrack for the game. He came through just in time, but I was swamped with launch day bugs and wasn't able to get things integrated right away. Well, the wait is over - the OST is in. This one features a lot more ambience and nature sounds, which works well compared to a more traditional set of songs. In case you prefer the original, there is a toggle in the settings menu to switch back and forth.Happy summer! Is it too late for spring cleaning? One other "launch day leftover" was the large pile of minor tweaks and fixes that didn't make it in the game right away. Our artist had given me more than 40 tasks to clean up - visual artifacts, UI weirdness, etc. I finally got started on this list, so the visual quality is a little better, and will continue to improve as we go.I also squashed a fair number of bugs, including a major one affecting auto-saves. In short, the game could get into a state where the backup auto-saves stopped working. This doesn't matter for 99% of players, but of course, when it matters (something happens to the main save), it matters a lot! Also fixed: fish lab cost displays were weird; using a color bomb was changing the visual size of the fish.Re-spec time! Finally, I added a small change to the Prestige screen. The "undo all" button now allows you to refund your spent gluons, meaning you can re-spec and try different upgrades. This is a part of a larger ongoing overhaul of the prestige screen. I want to reduce the need for rapid prestige spam. It's not the intended way to play, and most of the negative feedback I get comes from people who grind out gluons as fast as possible...

Small story/tutorial update and general improvements patch.

Changelog: Added FPS Limiter Added Bleach achievement to prevent confusion for new players (code is added, I will set up the actual achievement soon) Added more story beats on compression events Added 2 new animations for prestige and game won Fixed achievement triggering early Ensured that windowed mode always shows the window border Added custom fish names (and fixed hatchery name replication). Notes: This patch contains the first real additions to the game since launch, along with a few bug-fixes. This mostly appeared in the tutorial/story text and related animations. The ending is a little better, but I'm still playing with a few final elements. I have a small story beat planned at the ending isn't really foreshadowed, so I'm adding a few more small bits of text throughout the game to support it. I am close to done with the OST integration as well. Once these smaller changes are in, I'm going to start focusing more on the first major update. This will take some time (probably a month or two), so if you are interested in being involved, consider hopping on the Discord server for more frequent updates. I'm always looking for players who want to try out new builds before they go live. https://discord.gg/4S3mfzNenY TL:DR - If you enjoyed the game and are waiting for a big update before playing again, this isn't it. I'm working on something a bit more substantial that will be worth coming back to. If you're looking for an excuse to play the game again, there are a few new bits of text and animations to discover, but no major mechanical changes.

Thank you for a great launch! And roadmap update

Thank you everyone for an amazing launch! (and for 250 reviews)! So, Black Hole Fishing is my first game ever. I feel like the launch week was a bit rough (lots of bugs and issues right away), but in general, I am still happy with how things went! We managed to hit 1,500 concurrent players (which is a bit crazy to me), and we are now past 250 Very Positive reviews. ːsteamhappyːI am continuing to work on the game full-time right now, so expect more updates in the coming weeks. I’m focusing on smaller updates at first, but I do have my first major post-launch update planned as well, which should dramatically extend the end-game. I have been dealing with a fair bit of burn-out (working nights and weekends with a newborn will do that to you), but I've been resting a bit more and am starting to recover. In general, I want to finish critical patches quickly (responding to critical feedback), and then I hope to slow down and set a more comfortable update cadence going forwards. With that said, I wanted to talk through the short and mid-term road-map a bit today. Overall, the game doesn’t offer enough onboarding, so a major focus for the few weeks will be on the tutorial system and tool-tips, along with the Codex itself.I have been working on a proper conclusion to the game (the "you win" end screen was rushed and is disappointing), but I want to ensure that the changes are good before releasing them, and I didn't want to delay a roadmap announcement any further. Expect another game update in the next few days with these changes. Also, there are now compatibility modes when you launch the game. If you can launch the game without issues, then you can safely ignore this. I added the option to address the "I am stuck on the boot screen" issue that some players were seeing. What's next:I won't put any concrete dates on the calendar quite yet since scope is hard to estimate, but in general expect the following soon (ideally within the next week):Updated game story and better ending...
