The Slog continues!
It’s still coming!... albeit slowly. I’m still making headway on 1.1, but with everything I changed and added, I ended up biting off more than I realized. I needed to go back in and adjust and rewrite a lot more code than I first thought I would. :\\But it’s getting there! I'm working on fine tuning the enemies and bosses at the moment. I decided since I was going back over the whole thing, I should try to fix up the lore a bit too. Most likely, I will cut Frank Fowler out altogether, as he feels a bit too much like a cheap Jack Krauser. Instead, I’m turning The Wolfer-X into more of a standalone character: “Shiver/The Wolfer-X.”I'm not saying I’m making anything incredible here in terms of story, but I think it’ll jazz it up a bit! I'm also changing the first Zompire boss so he is a bit harder—plus, you might encounter him more than once now. I also had to take a quick detour to get another game (My Only Heroes) I’m working on a bit further along so I can try to enter it into a fest. If you like roguelike deckbuilders, by all means, go wishlist and follow—it would help me out a lot!Side note: Duke VonGarland is an unlockable card, as all my games must be connected and take place in the same realm, lol. All in all, though, I think it has a pretty fun gameplay loop; I’ve been enjoying testing it. I took some inspiration from Mission Mode in SoulCalibur for the Dreamcast because I really loved that mode back in the day.In any case, MOH is more in order now, and I’m putting my focus back onto VCBB 1.1 so I can hopefully get it out pretty soon. Sorry for the hold up, folks! Thanks as always for playing my gamesHave an awesome day! -AshMonster Robot Studios -Games for Humans-Read full article on Community Announcements (monsterrobotstudios)Patch NotesOfficial
Big update coming soon!
Preview of the upcoming 1.1 version! Here are some of the larger changes coming:new localization for english, Russian, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Japanese and Chinese simplifiedMassive Performance Boost: Much better area loading! I’ve got it running at a smooth 80–100 FPS during testing ATM, compared to the old build which usually ran at sub-20 FPS.Overhauled Inventory: Items and weapons now take up different amounts of space. For example, a lighter takes up much less room than a gun. you can still find pick ups to boost case size. better Map System: The whole world is now "rooms," so you can add to the map just by entering new areas. You won't have to "find" map regions anymore, though I think I’ll keep the physical map items in the game.Map Markers: I’m working on a marker system so you can place icons as reminders.New Gear: New weapons and outfits have been added.Stats & Stamina: All outfits now affect your stats. I've added a stamina bar; sprinting, attacking with heavy weapons, and dodge rolling will now drain it.If you run out, your dodge roll won’t last as long and has fewer i-frames.I might also make it so you can only walk or sprint when "locked out" of stamina (disabling the normal run).Jackets, shirts, and pants can boost your stamina resolve so it drains slower and recovers faster.New Content: New enemies and bosses are currently in the works.Audio Improvements: Added ambient sound to all areas(you can hear them in the video) I’ve fixed the audio backend so it’s much easier to control. Music, SFX, and Ambience will all have their own volume sliders. I’ve cleaned up the whole system, so there should be no more "wacky" random SFX and much more consistent volume levels overall (hopefully)World Layout: I have adjusted some of the late-game layouts, so things will look a bit different once this is out. However, I plan to leave the option to play the old version so you can still load and play your current save files.Aiming should be ...Read full article on Community Announcements (monsterrobotstudios)AnnouncementsOfficial
1.0 a go!
1.0 is now live! The Mines track by Fredrik RojasThis is by no means the end; I still have plenty of things I plan to add and adjust. The goal of Early Access was to gather feedback while working toward a version that was playable from start to finish. We’ve reached that goal! You all provided loads of great feedback, and we made it to the finish line thanks to you.For updates on fixes and additions, I post them hereIf you run into bugs, please post them hereI don’t want to give too much away, but I am currently working on a New Game+ mode. Once you start a second run, it will change or add new elements to the story! More new music will also be arriving in the coming weeks.Right now, I estimate a single playthrough will take anywhere from 7–12 hours. As more players complete the game, we’ll get a clearer idea of the average playtime. If you're speedrunning, you can likely clear it in under 2 hours, but that requires knowing exactly where everything is!You guys were also right about the 3D front. I’ve started plotting out the 3D "VonSequel." I’ll post more news on that soon, but I want to keep tinkering with VCBB for now. Thanks everyone for the incredible feedback and help. Knowing people are playing and having fun is what keeps me going!More soon, – AshRead full article on Community Announcements (monsterrobotstudios)Patch NotesOfficial
Community Update: do we go full 2.5D folks?
I’ve been cookin' and I need to run it by all of you.My original concept for this game was a 2.5D game that could freely swap into a 3rd-person perspective. I even tested a few rooms in the current build where you could move along the Z-axis, but after testing, I cut them because it just didn't feel right. My initial goal was for the "Metroid-ish" exploration to feel like Super Metroid/Metroid Dread. A year ago, I didn't think I had the know-how to pull off a full 3D game—but I’ve learned lots while working on this game and I’m now confident I can make a full 3D shift work, and I think it could be good. Why the Switch? The original plan was to keep exploration in 2.5D and reserve 3rd-person for big boss fights to allow for better aiming and combat (think RE4 or Dark Souls). However, moving to full 3D offers other perks too:Hand-Drawn Feel: I’m still animating models by hand, so the game will keep that "charming jank" style I’m known for lol Interaction: Better item examination, including rotating objects in 3D.Expanded Level Design: I can add back in puzzles I had to cut, like pushing objects around a room (which was too limited in 2D other than a lame move a statue in the bathroom).Collectibles: I can add toy collectibles! possible in 2D, but they feel much more "toy-like" in 3D.Enhanced Atmosphere: Better implementation for spatial SFX and dynamic music. The Stats & The PlanTo give you some context on where the game stands:12k+ Wishlists400+ people have played it 140+ Players with over an hour of playtime (so I want to hear from you all!)I’m sharing these stats because I value the input of everyone who has supported the game so far. I want to know your thoughts on me making the switch. While I could build this as a standalone game, my plan is to use the current version as a roadmap and rebuild the game from the ground up in 3D. I’d be taking everything I’ve learned over the last year, releasing it in parts just as I have been doing. Most Importantly...I'd like this to f...Read full article on Community Announcements (monsterrobotstudios)AnnouncementsOfficial
new Button Mapping/Binding
Hi all! got some stuff in the new build *you can now fully map player controls, hopefully this will help for folks using KBM who want full control over their layouts :) all in menu controls have been switched to Control(A button)Alt(B button) Shift(X button) Spacebar(Y button) from what I read on the internets this is on of the most standard layouts, so hope that works for when you are in menus. if anyone has thoughts on this layout feel free to post in the comments.also added lots of on screen displays, pause menu has button details now.HUD has new icons for settings/pause menu been testing and fixing it all over the last 48 hours, I think it is mostly solidly working, but if you find jank & bugs let me know in the community*Bloom now turns off in settings and shop menu to match with pause menu.*added awesome new mines music to the mine areas thanks to the great Fredrik Rojas*fixed small keys bug so you don't lose them on pick up if you already have one in inventory*I think I fixed Steve lines triggering incorrectly near town hall.*spiced up first back and forth area with the shack*added the chainsaw, the inventory icon isn't working, will be fixed in next updateThanks everyone for playing and the support! as always if you know other survival horror fans let'em know to check it out :) More soonThanks for playing! -Ash Monster Robot Studios-Games for Humans-Read full article on Community Announcements (monsterrobotstudios)
