Embark on a grand adventure where grabbing, throwing, and eating becomes an art form. In Psycutlery, your actions shape the story as you navigate through a world that reacts to your every move with variety and humor.

About this game

What... IS this?

It's a spoon. And yet, it's also a fork. Or is it either? It's a video game-type thing developed by Skye June (a.k.a. "Thunder Dragon").  A console-styled platformer with an action-adventure feel, complete with an expansive storyline featuring multifaceted characters across a widely varied world.

Each new level is completely unique from the last.

With an emphasis on variety through the constant introduction of new gimmicks and ways to play, Psycutlery is a game that prompts the question: "what's next?!"

Take control of Lillian the Alien and her mind-controlled spork (that YOU can name).  Grab things.  Throw things.  Eat things.  Jump in mid-air up to five times!  Bring down an incomprehensible abomination of evil with a single piece of silverware (plus around 30 different power-ups!), and witness copious craziness unfold across Planet Geozaic!

Some things to note...

For best results, playing with a controller is recommended (as this is a console-style platformer designed and tested with a controller in mind).  Keyboard controls are supported, but not preferred.  But hey.  Options!  Whatever you use, all controls are rebindable to custom user specifications.

Note that this game, though more or less family friendly, may contain some scary parts and dark storytelling moments that might not be suitable for small children.

Around a decade in development, and... it's free??

Yep.  All I want is to share my work and keep enjoying my game development hobby (without any of the stresses that come from the business side of things)!

This is the full, completed game.  I would like to think of it having ample length and quality comparable to that of a commercial game.  It's a completely original work, having been started between 2011 and 2012.  All characters, art, music and so on are original to this project.  Music was made with the help of me and a few friends (with most of the musical contributions coming from my friend Jon AKA DJ Yoshiman), while everything else has been solo developed by me.  There are absolutely no microtransactions or anything of that sort.  No catches to be found here - I just wish to share my passion with all who might appreciate it.

Use a mind-controlled spork in Psycutlery, a wild free platformer with lots of gimmicks

Here's a free game that you should try out. It's called Psycutlery, an action-platformer where you bring down an abomination of evil with a piece of silverware. Gimmicks are god in Psycutlery, a delightful free spork-driven platformer from the creator of Psycho Waluigi

The curse of plausibility and coherence lies heavy across this realism-centred artform. These days, you can't even give a platform character a woolly hat without first devising an in-game textile industry with appropriate supply chains, and a whole supporting cast of millworkers with names like Arthur Worsted and Jimmy Shuttlecock. I prefer the disconnectedness of Psycutlery, in which you fight using a telekinetic spork, buy things with frogspawn, heal by eating toothpaste, and checkpoint progress by carving blocks of stone into statues of yourself, using the spork. The in-game reasoning for all this is basically "because developer Luke Tarlowe has the imagination of a Picasso and the attention span of a goldfish". Don't call it CRAZY. Call it refreshingly uninhibited and also, reminiscent of, Decap Attack and Ristar. Also, call it free. Read more

Psycutlery runs great on Steam Deck!

This just might be the definitive way to play Psycutlery. The game has been specially optimized to run as perfect as possible on Steam Deck, both at the default 60fps and 90fps (for OLED) settings. Button icons are altered accordingly when playing on the system. Runs at 720p (given the game's long development cycle, I hadn't thought to plan for 800, heh). No keyboard input is needed. It has been tested on Deck extensively, and in the process... I finally felt like I was playing my game for the first time, even after over a decade in development. As someone who doesn't really game on (desktop) PC, I had originally wanted to publish Psycutlery to a certain handheld console. Unfortunately, that goal was rendered unattainable when my attempts at trying to turn my deep passion into a commercial product proved stressful on a personal level. Thus, I decided to make Psycutlery free - and console storefronts typically don't allow free games. Thanks to the Steam Deck, the dream doesn't have to die.Psycutlery was specifically designed as a console game, and now it can finally be played the way it was meant to be played. I'm so glad this device exists! Here's hoping the game can get officially verified in the near future, but for now, I hope those of you able to do so will give it a try on Steam Deck. And if you enjoy it, please tell your friends!
