About this game
What is the Frontier? The barely charted outskirts of known space, where everything comes down to chance: strike it rich today, end up rotting in a pirate hold tomorrow. Many come here chasing glory and fortune. We're just trying to live here. Most days, survive. The Simurgh is a battered corvette, but the crew is top-tier.
Rob keeps us flying straight and makes sure we don't crash on landing.
Alice lives in the engine room, keeping the ship from falling apart. She can also crack a system or two when needed.
Khan knows more than the rest of us combined. We don't question it: his mission plans speak for themselves.
And then there's me — Jay. I joined them after a sentient crystal — hunted across half the galaxy — got into my head and turned my life as a simple courier upside down.
Now I have to figure out what it is, how to communicate with it and what's really happening on the Frontier while the rest of humanity looks the other way.
And you know what? We could use your help.
CODE RED
PLAN YOUR STRATEGY: We took the best of X-COM and Final Fantasy and stripped away unnecessary coin-flipping. Every move matters. Procedurally generated maps adapt to your past decisions, keeping every encounter fresh and challenging.
CODE GREEN
EXPLORE THE FRONTIER: The Frontier is vast and largely uncharted. Travel to worlds no one has set foot on, gather resources, earn credits, and unlock new opportunities.
GROW STRONGER: Upgrade your squad, find better gear, and keep it in working condition. Equipment failure in the middle of a fight is the last thing you want. High-end tech is rare out here, but a skilled merc always finds a way.
CODE BLUE
CHOOSE YOUR PATH: Jay wants to survive. Johnson wants to be remembered. And what the crystal symbiont wants… no one really knows. Choose your allies and enemies, uncover the secrets of the Frontier, and shape the fate of humanity.
CHANGE THE WORLD: For 15 years, we've been building this universe together with our players. Now it's your turn to leave your mark.
CODE WHITE
So… what the hell is all this color symbolism about?
Wishlist now and stay tuned for release in mid-2026!

Hotfix 1.0.2.1: Camera Settings, Talent and Dialogue Fixes
We're continuing to read your feedback and bug reports, and we've released a new hotfix. The build is already live on Steam. This time we focused on the camera, pirate encounters, combat clarity, talents, and save functionality. Details below.Customize your cameraYou can now adjust zoom speed in combat and in space yourself. A new Camera Sensitivity slider has been added to the settings menu, making it easier to find a comfortable sensitivity.Pirates: less guessworkThe pirate encounter window now shows how much you need to pay to buy off an attack. No more guessing whether you have enough credits to avoid a fight. We've also fixed a bug that prevented landing at a location with pirate activity on a planet.Combat and talents are clearerWe've made the conditions of certain battles clearer, so it's easier to understand what's required before a fight begins. We also worked on talents. We fixed errors in their descriptions and repaired the talent branch that increases base weapon damage, which previously wasn't working correctly.Saving before the alternative endingFrom the alternative ending screen, you can now load directly into the save at the point of the choice that led to it. This makes it easier to go back and play the story differently. We've also fixed a bug that could cause a spontaneous load from the save screen.Other fixesIn addition:fixed errors in dialogue logic;added some visual effects;made numerous minor fixes. And of course, this isn't the last update. We'll keep reading your messages and gathering feedback. Thanks to everyone who plays, leaves reviews, and reports issues you've found. It genuinely helps us find the areas that need improvement faster.Read full article on Community Announcements (Mariia Korotkova)AnnouncementsOfficial
Meet the Team: Oduvan Games
Behind the ships, characters, dialogue, interfaces, and tactical battles of Frontier: Path of Shadows are real people — so today, we thought it was finally time to introduce ourselves properly.Who kept production moving? Who turned ideas into game systems? Who wrote all those words, and who made sure they looked good on screen? And most importantly, what do all these people do when they’re not making games — and what do they think you should pay special attention to while playing Frontier: Path of Shadows?Maria — Producer and Creative DirectorMaria plays games of all kinds, loves traveling, dancing, keeping up with new technology and — deserving a category of its own — sleeping. On Frontier: Path of Shadows, Maria handles production and effectively leads the team: she sets priorities, helps make key project decisions, and makes sure all the different parts of development come together into a coherent whole. She also leads the game’s marketing, from the overall strategy to deciding how and where we tell players about Frontier. What should you pay attention to? The setting, of course. Maria has been playing tabletop RPGs set in the Frontier universe for eight years, and she has no intention of stopping:“It’s incredibly alive, interesting, and diverse.”Alexey — Business DevelopmentAlexey enjoys fencing, live-action role-playing, traveling and, in his own words, work as a hobby. On Frontier, he is responsible for developing the project’s external relationships: looking for new opportunities to collaborate and talking to potential partners. As for what players should pay attention to, Alexey points to three of the game’s central elements: the story, the characters, and the combat system.Nikita — World and Concept CreatorNikita works in IT, designs tabletop RPGs, and creates fictional settings. Outside work, he enjoys fencing, tabletop and live-action role-playing games, traveling, and adventures of various kinds.Nikita created the world of Frontier and the original idea behi...Read full article on Community Announcements (Mariia Korotkova)AnnouncementsOfficial
From 7th Sea to Chess: What Inspired the Creators of Frontier
The world of Frontier existed long before the video game. It began as a setting for tabletop RPGs, changing alongside its players and gradually growing its own history, factions, and events. Years later, that material became the foundation for Frontier: Path of Shadows, where ideas originally created for tabletop play had to be reimagined through the language of video games.Tasia Filonova, narrative designer on Frontier, spoke with Nikita Evtushenko, the creator of the setting, and Dmitry Devyatnikov, the game designer, about Golden Age science fiction, the romance of space travel, chess, Mass Effect, and how a tabletop zone-based combat system eventually evolved into the game’s network of connected nodes.Where Did the World of Frontier Begin?Tasia: Nikita, you started creating this world long before the video game existed. What was the very first version of Frontier like?Nikita: I’ve always loved Golden Age science fiction, but also Sabatini, Mayne Reid, Jack London — and, of course, the tabletop RPG 7th Sea. So for a long time I had this idea of making something like “7th Sea in space”: combining the spirit of adventure and maritime fiction with science fiction.Over time, though, I had to move away from the swashbuckling conventions of 7th Sea toward harder sci-fi, which I also love. That was roughly what the first version of the setting looked like when I started working on it back in 2008.Tasia: And after that, the world kept evolving through tabletop campaigns?Nikita: Absolutely. We had years of history and years of games. At first, we played freeform text role-playing games, then experimented with strategy systems, adapted the setting for Savage Worlds, and later for Year Zero. Along the way, new ideas kept finding their way into the world, and some major elements actually originated with the players. For example, the Epsilon Sector, where the video game takes place, appeared in many of our tabletop campaigns. It was always one of the central locations in the s...Read full article on Community Announcements (Mariia Korotkova)
