Bounce your way up in Upfall, where dodging dangers and bursting bubbles propels you to new heights. Experience the thrill of near-death escapes as you navigate endless levels in this free-to-play indie gem from Amicable Animal.

About this game

Escape the depths by bouncing on bubbles and avoid the hazards which slowly present themselves. Glowing red = danger... at least to start with! Each new depth you reach causes the colours to change and the hazards to increase, with enough random generation so each upfall is never the same. It's not easy, it's sometimes mean, but with fast restarts, lots to discover, and quick rounds you'll find yourself coming back over and over.

Can you find your way back to the surface?

Totally, utterly free – The world isn't great right now for a lot of people so we wanted to give back. Upfall is completely free - no ads, no monetisation, no catch

Quick rounds – Each fall takes between 2 and 10 minutes so you can play between other games or on your lunch break

Unlocks and customisation – Unlock colour palettes, audio styles, ambiences, and characters to customise how the game looks and sounds

Keyboard or controller – Play keyboard only, feel the controller vibrate, or watch the DualShock 4/DualSense controller light change colour to reflect the game state

Chill but eerie – Simple rules to discover with a creepy, no-jump scares, atmosphere to keep you engaged and coming back

Do you want to know what playing a game might sound like in a massive underground oil tank? How about in an otherworldly gasometer, a 60 meter tall silo, or played through a slinky? Upfall experiments with convolution reverb to put the game into real, strange places around the globe that you can explore as you play.

A game by Amicable Animal with art from eggysworld and piano samples from Luci Holland.

Made for humans, by humans.

(Just so you know: this game is provided as is, and we can't offer support as it's free. It is built in Unity so if you can play Unity games it should run fine!)

Version 1.31 - A small bugfix for a hidden achievement

Hi all, Tom here!Just a very quick post today to mention that there is a small update/patch to Upfall. This is related to a hidden achievement, so if you want to avoid any spoilers, look away now! Headline is that it shouldn't impact your saves, or achievements, and it should make 100%ing the game a little fairer..........Okay... Are they gone? Great! So there is a single hidden achievement in Upfall which is designed to be somewhat obscure, and to add a little mystery for players to stumble upon. This was added quite late in development as a way of adding a fun little unlock near the end of the game.Problem is, it has become apparent that it was a little too opaque to unlock. So, I've updated it a little bit. To be clear, this doesn't necessarily make the achievement easier to get, but I hope it makes it a little fairer as once you know what you are doing you have more agency over getting it done!If you're still struggling to get this achievement, I'll include some hints at the end too, just scroll down if you want them! For now though, cheers for playing Upfall, and have a good one!- Amicable AnimalHints for the hidden achievement:The start should just happen as you are playing the game normally. Look out for anything unusual appearing. Using Original or Neon and playing a few times gives you the best chance. Its all linked to the symbols that appear on the right under the 'level' bar. Keep an eye out for things changing. If you need more help a previous game of mine has a demo that might make things clearer. You'll need to pick different palettes and probably stick around on some levels longer than you would otherwise to make progress...If all you see is a cross in the bottom right, you've missed your chance this run! Try again?

    The Colourful Fix Update

Hi all, Tom here. First off, let me say upfront that most of you probably won't see the change in this update. But for those of you who are playing with a DualShock 4 or DualSense controller, this update is pretty important. While pushing the Unity Vulnerability update I noticed that Microsoft in their infinite wisdom had broken a lot of functionality with PlayStation controllers in Windows 11 in a recently update. So if you've noticed your controller not showing the correct icons since then, that could be why. Upfall uses a common library called Rewired to detect and interact with console controllers and I spent ages before launch adding functionality for the most common ones. There are icons for Xbox, PS4, PS5, and individual Joycon controllers, controller vibration for certain in game actions, and my favourite: the light bar colour for Playstation controller changes as you play! Anyway, long story short: it wasn't just me who noticed this, and Rewired got an update this week to fix what Microsoft seemingly broke. Hopefully that means PlayStation controller icons (PS4/PS5) should work again, rumble should be back, and the light bar will update to follow the 'hazard' colour of the game - even when the colours are cross fading. Please excuse the shaky cam, this was a right faff to film: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45534540/b3a6ec26ba58af8e3e034037263692c7ec20b1cf.png Nice! It really irked me that it had stopped working... Lookout for Version 1.21 in the credits menu! One last thing: if you've tried the game and enjoyed it, a review would be really lovely! We're only 7 reviews away from the coveted 50 boundary for 'Very Positive' which will give the game a bit of a visibility bump too. You don't need to write much, and it'd really help out. Unity Security Update

Hi all, Tom here. As you might have seen around the net recently, Unity has... well, had a bad week. Long story short, there has been a rare vulnerability discovered which has meant every game in Unity (since 2017) should be updated to patch it. Yeah... fun time for all us devs! Anyway, long story short I've pushed out a patch for Upfall that includes the new version of the Unity DLLs so it should no longer be susceptible for this exploit. If you see Version 1.11 in the Credits screen you should be sorted! While I was there I also added a tiny update to the Credits screen to include a bunch of testers for the game which was always supposed to be included, but slipped through the cracks. Fingers crossed the update shouldn't break anything and you can now keep exploring the depths without any (additional) worries! -Amicable Animal

Update notes for Hotfix Version 1.03

A tiny update, suggested by a player: When you unpause the game, there is no a short (0.5s) delay before the game restarts so you can find your character before you continue to fall! - Amicable Animal

    THANK YOU!

Hi all, Tom here! I just wanted to post a quick update to say a big THANK YOU to everyone for trying Upfall! It's been out for less than a week and we're already sitting at a Positive rating on Steam. That's AWESOME! This game was a bit of a shot in the dark (pun intended) as it's not a puzzle game and it's definitely a little freaky... so it's been so lovely to see people enjoying it and even completing some of it's more difficult challenges! I also pushed a hotfix recently which fixes a small visual bug and gives a bit of a hint about how to unlock one of the trickier achievements. If you see a strange looking symbol in a bubble, make sure you pop it and check the main menu... you might find some breadcrumbs. Finally, if you've enjoyed playing, do please drop a review for Upfall. It really does help with visibility (especially closer to launch) as it means we're more likely to show up in people's discovery queues. And who doesn't want, as one review says: "a slightly creepy echoing voice to tell them to keep going"? In a sense, isn't that what we all need right now? Especially as you can take it with you on the go if you have Steam Deck! See you all in the reverb dimension... https://store.steampowered.com/app/3570280/Upfall/ - Amicable Animal
