About this game

In the Burning House, rogue-like unite with your stress, the tasks of space exploration, resource allocation, and house-destroying fire to catch you off guard!

Key Features:

  • There is no best item, but there are suitable ones: balance between time costs, resource expenditure and exploration

  • 5 kinds of uninvited guests with their own habits

  • Destructible floor and walls

  • Darkness has importance

  • A little nervous

  • The timer is not for hurrying you

  • Kung-fu in simplified mode!

  • Random generation – you don’t need to remember where you placed things. Explore again!

  • Burning House – "game with music"!

Seek in the darkness

The darkness has hidden the "keys" and "doors" from you—find at least a match and seize a piece of fire’s essence to make out the path.

Look around

The house is falling apart, but find the silver lining—find a way to turn the collapsing floor, falling beams, and fragile walls to your advantage. Discover useful items in the dark basement or shorten your path. Break what’s still standing if it helps you!

Beware of the guests

There are guests in the house—they have come for you and are wandering around the house.

Use their weaknesses in the chase, distract them and hide, or face the creatures in a fight!

Watch yourself

Your stamina will run out, you will be overcome by pain, weakness and injuries—this will simplify the hunt for the guests and reduce your chances of making it in time.

Know Your House

The house reconfigures every time — forget the past, explore the present.

Escape the inevitable

...just do it.

    Many ways to make mistakes

There are four main illuminating sources in the Burning House, and each has different brightness, weight, and special conditions. Last time, I shared the goals and talked about what the Burning House should be — what feelings it should evoke and what challenge it sets before you. Today, I will talk about illuminating items — a part of the system in which you will have to make choices over and over again, calculating time-related resources, stock levels of indicators, and the items themselves. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45552082/688b65db2e8d5bdfcf35142ac50c8fcdb2939f6e.png 1. The worst enemy of cash is the lightest of the items. It has a small lighting radius and burns out rather quickly. Once extinguished, a matchstick cannot be lit again. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45552082/9096f6c93908910d2b83493bb0fabfe06836a68c.png How quickly you can retrieve a matchstick from your inventory depends on how many non-matchstick items there are compared to matchsticks. A matchstick will also fall out of your hands if a monster attacks you. You can find a matchbox — it is retrieved from the inventory at a fixed speed and does not fall out of your hands when a monster attacks. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45552082/405b8b727dc6805e0e3794a60e3ccad2777220f8.png It also allows you to light matchsticks. In exchange for the matchbox’s protection, you will have to spend extra time putting matchsticks into it and taking them out when needed. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45552082/56fb953a731640fd40f88f6262fb303ba783fc8e.png 2. A candle — brighter and longer-lasting than a matchstick. Unlike a matchstick, it can be relit again and again until it completely melts and does not fall out of your hands when a monster attacks. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45552082/d9cf1ad7ec58ebd73bfb5ee046a6c17fe6c316ee.png You can hold a candle with your bare hands — if you do, it will fall out once it melts enough. But if you find a candlestick, you will be able to use the candle in full. Additionally, you can place a candle in one of the floor-standing can...

A Letter from the Burning House about The Burning House

"Not just 'gameplay first' — I want you to feel the looming threat." Hi! This is Evil from Berry, the lead game designer of The Burning House, and I usually have plenty to talk about and much to share. I want to tell you as much as possible about The Burning House before it releases and keep you updated on its development. I think it's best to start with the goals — to tell what The Burning House should be and what experience I want to offer you. Even though I follow the principle of "gameplay first," I take narrative and the overall feeling of the game into account. Even if a game isn’t primarily narrative-driven or solely about conveying emotions, an active gameplay experience — when it takes up a significant amount of time — largely defines the overall feeling and either aligns with or contradicts the narrative. That's because we, as humans, perceive the elements of a game as a whole. That’s why I’ve set clear goals and shaped a vision not just for the gameplay but for the experience as well. I want you to feel the looming threat - one that can no longer be postponed. To feel trapped — not in a trap where you can't move or are helpless. You still have the ability to change things, but you can’t turn back what has already begun. What exactly you choose to do about it is up to you. There is no single path you must follow, no specific obstacle you must overcome. Which obstacles are worth tackling, and in what order you should overcome the ones you choose — these are your decisions, and in the grand scheme of things, they might be the wrong ones. You can, in fact, rely only on yourself. In the mechanics, I maximize the idea of resource management — every action you take, every decision you make in exploration or combat mode, revolves around managing expenditures or exchanging resources — whether it’s time, health, stamina, or items. Breaking the floor, opening a door, throwing an item to distract a monster, or moving a floor candelabrum — all of it comes down to one ...
