Jade Spring 1.0 Release
Jade Spring: 1.0 ReleaseIs it a plane? Is it a Principal Biomancer? No, it’s the full release of the Guild Wars 2 homesteading and decorating fan-game, Jade Spring, which I’ve been working on over the past year! This update brings new decorations, many bug-fixes, and a bunch of changes which makes the game much more performant and faster to load. I’m very keen to keep adding decoration packs every now and then, but I’m considering the game to now be in a stable state to continue adding onto! With that being said, you can expect a patch in the next week or two with some immediate small additions I wanna make, alongside the inevitable emergency bug-fixes which tend to crop up. Speaking of bugs, if you run across one, please leave me a report at any of the places listed here; It would be really helpful for me!Thank you so much to everyone, from the bottom of my heart. The people who tried the game, my QA testers, folk who share their creations, streamers who have played the game, and creators who have made videos about it. Tyria (and especially Cantha) is souper important to me — it feels like home. To have people share in my little fan-creation, and celebrate this world with me, is something too special for words. I hope you continue to find some peace and enjoyment in Jade Spring.(Note: for all beta players who have an existing save file: I’ve done my absolute best to make sure that this new version is fully compatible! But a couple of testers have reported some weird bugs which only disappeared when they reset their local cache, so you might need to do the same if you run into something really weird. You can find this location by clicking on the folder icon in the main menu. Do be sure to make copies of your settings, save, and decoration files — you will be able to put these back just fine.)Release changelogI’ve recorded most of the changes to the game here, but I tinkered with a lot of stuff, and might have misplaced some notes and things… Eep! You can also go back...Read full article on Community Announcements (slyllama)Patch NotesOfficial
Jade Spring 1.3b Update
Hello everyone! At last I have an update for Jade Spring ! Apologies for the wait; I got bogged down with life, then happened to get pretty sick on top of it all. It’s no fun not being able to sit up and make games, so I was so happy to be able to get back to it. And though this is a fairly modest update, some big changes had to be made behind the scenes to accomodate DirectX support and multiple decoration files. That’s right! You can now have multiple decoration templates and switch freely between them. To access this feature you will need to complete the clearing out of the garden. Once finished, an orb will appear next to Ratchet – interact with it and you’ll be taken to a special room where you can not only swap templates, but reset and clear your garden, too. I made a development log video on the update a little while ago – you can get an idea of what’s going on by checking it out! There are some features and information you might notice is missing, like any kind of indication or tutorial for this new feature. I’ll be updating Jade Spring some more in the next little while to add these kinds of things, as well as to fix the inevitable bugs that will crop up in the next few days. I was just itching to get the update out, so that I could get some feedback (you guys are the best!) and continue moving forward. We have couple of really good decorations from areyoshi coming soon which I’m excited to finalise putting in! I also want to give a big thank you to anari, who has extensively tested the game and especially the design templates feature.Patch notesAdded the Otter's Enclave.Enter the Enclave using the portal which spawns next to Ratchet after the entire garden has been cleared of bugs, weeds, and Dragonvoid. You can use the banner there to clear or reset the garden to its default state, all in one go.The design panel is also accessible from the Enclave, which lets you manage and swap between designs – decoration layouts which can easily be changed and shared.Adde...Read full article on Community Announcements (slyllama)AnnouncementsOfficial
Jade Spring: Development Notes #6
Hello everyone! It's been a little while since the last Jade Spring update in June, but I've slowly been chipping away at additions and improvements to the game, and now 1.3b will be coming out on the 27th of September. I made a video about progress on this update a couple of weeks ago! (You can also read a bit about it here.)One of the main additions to Jade Spring will be the Otter's Enclave, a special room which allows you to create, manage, and swap garden designs. You can share your layouts and import designs that your friends have made, too. I'd like to give a huge thanks to anari, who has been doing some really comprehensive testing of what's been a very spicy feature to add!I've been enjoying putting some Kodan decorations into the game. Actually, I was going to add a lot more decorations before releasing 1.3b, but I decided to go for a release as soon as possible for two main reasons:AMD recently released a GPU driver update which caused big issues for all Vulkan games, the graphics API which Jade Spring is built on. I recently added DirectX support so that AMD users can continue to play the game without having to roll back their drivers, and I'd like to get that out as soon as possible!I found a very small bug which makes the performance cost of the default garden home (and any build with lights in it) like, more than three times as high as it should be. I could have done a patch, but I like the idea of getting this all out together. When you play this update, you'll notice a big performance improvement.Which leads to what's coming after 1.3b! The place I'd like to get Jade Spring into is a very stable state where I can do regular small decoration updates, as a sort of side-project and continuous testing ground for future developments (I've been thinking a lot about a full-fledged architectural simulator). So the next update after this one will be 1.0 (woohoo), and subsequent updates will be for adding different decorations from various expansions. As alway...Read full article on Community Announcements (slyllama)Patch NotesOfficial
Jade Spring: v1.2b Update
Hello everyone! First of all, thank you so much everyone for playing and enjoying Jade Spring; I’ve been so happy to hear people’s comments and ideas since the game came out on Steam on the 13th. OMG, Mukluk covered the game (you can watch it here), I couldn’t believe it. And it also got a play-through and review from AngryZorric. I’ve got a bunch of decorations that I’ve started, and all this makes me really excited to finish them and get them all in the game. Thanks again, from my heart, ahhh.A lot of your feedback has been applied and there are some more things coming soon! I’ll be adding banners which can clear and reset your garden, so you can start building from scratch. I’m also looking into adding an undo button. And I know a couple of people have run into the weird issue where the world goes blank and you have to restart the game. It feels like an engine bug, which has been very difficult to track down, and I’m really hoping that it was fixed with the upgrade to Godot 4.4.1. I’ve been talking to Godot community folks and will keep watching this issue closely! For now though, here’s the 1.2b version of Jade Spring ! There are a couple of new features but it’s mainly comprised of lots and lots of bug fixes. I’m hoping to make the game really stable over the next few versions while I continue to work on new decorations, and then put out a release version with a plenitude of new stuff. Here’s a list of everything that’s been changed and fixed:Changelog (1.2b)Note: the Jade Spring 1.2b version will be a bit bigger than it has been in the past (about 130MB). This is because the engine that the game uses (Godot) has also updated, and I’ve just moved Jade Spring up to that new version.Quickly find walls, floors, etc with category tiles in the decoration pane.Fixed several instances of stuttering on load (transition to Godot 4.4.1).An effect will display when Ratchet has optional dialogue.Contributes to the ‘My Friend Ratchet’ achievement.Added a banner which will tu...Read full article on Community Announcements (slyllama)AnnouncementsOfficial
Jade Spring: Development Notes #5
Read the full notes on the website! Jade Spring is available on itch.io! I’m really hoping that the Steam version will be available soon, but I am still waiting on a reply from them. The design in the image was built by apricot, who was able to make a whole new beautiful atmosphere in the game! It’s a beautiful day outside. Flowers are blooming; birds are singing… On days like these, kids like you… Should try out the Jade Spring beta, which went up last Friday! OMG, I’m so thankful for the comments I’ve received from the people who have played the game already. A special thanks to apricot (Jade Spring’s incredible principal character designer), our testers, and Poksmox, who very kindly tried the game out on his stream. I’ve collected a list of things I want to add and fix, and I’m hoping I can have the first lot of changes done this week! There are things on there ranging from grass clumps to plushie decorations to (possibly) being able to duplicate a selection of items. I’ve received a lot of great feedback and suggestions, and I also have a bunch more decorations in mind to add. (There are also thoughts of an expansion, hehe, but that will come a little later.) I really hope everything goes well with getting the game through Steam because it will make it a lot easier for people to update (which is the main reason I’d planned for Steam). For now though, I’ll also be adding a little indicator on the main menu of the itch.io version which tells you if your version is behind the latest one. Thank you again to anyone has tried out Jade Spring. There will be more updates to come here and on Bluesky; I’m thinking of making a behind-the-scenes video describing some weird and interesting stuff behind the game! For example, there is an inaccessible weed which will haunt the underneath of the map forever; it’s there so that the “crumb” system (weeds, bugs, and Dragonvoid blights) will never be fully unloaded.Read full article on Community Announcements (slyllama)
