Join hundreds of players in OpenFront's 2026 battle-royale, where you can forge alliances, amass wealth, and unleash nuclear strikes to dominate the world.

About this game

ABOUT THIS GAME

OpenFront is a massively multiplayer real-time strategy game where hundreds of real players battle simultaneously on a single shared world map. Build your economy, forge alliances, crush your enemies, and launch nuclear strikes — all in real time, all against real people. No lobbies. No waiting. Drop in and the world is already at war.

With over 1 million monthly active players on the web version, OpenFront comes to Steam with enhanced performance, Steam achievements, and a growing competitive scene that's been running cash-prized tournaments since 2025.

CONQUER THE WORLD

Every match starts the same way: you control a small patch of territory on a map shared by hundreds of other players. From there, it's up to you. Expand aggressively into undefended land. Pressure weaker neighbours. Accumulate gold, build your military, and push toward dominance — before someone else does the same to you.

The map is a living, breathing battlefield. Borders shift every second. Alliances form and collapse in minutes. A player who looked irrelevant ten minutes ago might have spent that time quietly building the largest army on the map. Watch everyone. Trust no one.

DEEP STRATEGY. SIMPLE TO PICK UP.

OpenFront rewards smart play over raw aggression. Managing your economy is just as important as managing your army — overextend and you'll collapse, underinvest and you'll be steamrolled. The game layers genuine strategic depth onto controls anyone can learn in minutes:

  • Expand by directing your forces into unclaimed territory and weaker nations

  • Build ports, cities, and missile defences to strengthen your borders

  • Trade and negotiate — in-game ally requests let you broker truces with neighbours

  • Escalate from conventional warfare to nuclear strikes as the match reaches its endgame

  • Naval warfare adds a second front — control the seas to project power across the map

Multiple world maps each demand a different approach. Europe's choke points reward diplomacy and timing. Asia's open terrain favours rapid expansion. The global map brings full ocean control into play. Every map is a different puzzle.

CLANS AND COMPETITIVE PLAY

OpenFront has one of the most active grassroots competitive communities of any browser-based strategy game. Clan tags are more than cosmetic — in team modes, players carrying the same tag are automatically fielded together, turning organised clans into genuine competitive units. Clan wins, losses, and win rates are tracked globally and compared on leaderboards.

OpenFront Masters is the official competitive organisation, running monthly cash-prized tournaments with referees, anti-cheat rules, and a Liquipedia presence. With over 10,000 members in the OFM Discord and a dedicated spectator format built for streaming, competitive OpenFront is already an established scene — not an afterthought.

Whether you're grinding ranked 1v1 matchmaking, coordinating with your clan in team modes, or stepping into an OFM tournament bracket, there is a competitive path for every level of player.

MAKE IT YOUR OWN

Cosmetics in OpenFront are visible to every player in the match — your territory is your canvas. Equip territory patterns that change the look of every tile you control, from clean minimalist designs to full-scale meme skins. Fly one of hundreds of real-world flags. Personalise your profile with unlockable cosmetics earned through play or the in-game shop.

OpenFront will never be pay-to-win. Every cosmetic is visual only.

BUILT WITH THE COMMUNITY

OpenFront started as an open-source project shaped entirely by player feedback, and that ethos carries into the Steam release. The public development roadmap is live on GitHub, updated regularly with what's being built and what's coming next. Bug reports, feature requests, and even code contributions from the community have directly shaped the game you're playing today.

Jump into the Discord, follow the roadmap, and help build what comes next.

EARLY ACCESS

OpenFront launches on Steam in Early Access with a fully playable, polished core game — the same experience that has driven 1 million monthly players on the web. Early Access funds continued development including:

  • Mobile app (iOS and Android)

  • Expanded clan system with native leaderboards

  • New cosmetics, territory skins, and subscriber perks

  • Additional maps and game modes

  • Performance and observability improvements

  • Steam Deck optimisation

The full roadmap is public. You can see exactly what's being worked on, vote on priorities, and track progress in real time.

PLAY ANYWHERE

OpenFront runs natively in the browser at openfront.io with no download required — the Steam version shares the same servers, the same players, and full cross-platform multiplayer. Start a match on Steam and play against someone on their phone. The community is one pool, wherever you play.

Thank You! Update Streams, Charity Update & What's Next

Hello Everyone! It's been about two weeks since we launched on Steam and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you all. Since launch we've sold almost 50,000 copies of OpenFront and hit a new record of over 300,000 daily active players multiple times, which is honestly crazy to see, and it's all thanks to you guys. I also wanted to take a moment to tell you about a few new bits we're doing to improve our communication, and what's coming next! Bi-weekly update streams Every other week, starting Friday the 9th of October at 4pm BST, we'll be doing an hour long stream to talk about OpenFront, the community, what's coming, and to answer your questions. So bring them along! Each one will go up on the official OpenFront YouTube channel afterwards, a bit like the WAN Show, just with fewer brains behind it. Roadmap update We're finishing off the full roadmap, but here are a few bits that are 100% coming to OpenFront and Steam soon, or have only just landed: Discord ranks for subs and Steam purchasers - These are in now! Subscriptions link automatically, and for Steam just do /link-steam Ranked FFA - Coming to both the website and Steam. We're still working out the Elo system, but we're aiming for around Christmas! New game modes - We're looking at what fits with OpenFront's theme, things like a King of the Hill mode or hold points around the map. Nothing's locked in yet, but it's definitely on the list! Clan Maps and Warchest - Clans will be able to use their caps to buy troops, use those troops to conquer land, and that land earns them even more caps! Monthly skins for Steam purchasers - If you bought OpenFront on Steam, you'll get a new skin every month for six months. These are some of my personal favourites, they'll never be for sale, and Steam is the only way to get them Steam Trading Cards - We've commissioned a really cool art studio and, thanks to all your feedback, they're hard at work on custom trading cards, profile banners and more so you can make your pro...

    0.2.0 - 29 achievements to unlock

0.2.0 is live - Achievements are here Before anything else, thank you. The launch has gone better than any of us expected and that is entirely down to you lot, it genuinely could not have been done without you. We are still finalising the numbers but we will be putting an update out soon to say exactly how much we will be donating to some amazing causes. Onto today. Steam 0.2.0 is live, and after a fair few hotfixes we have finally got the one thing everyone has been asking for in, achievements. 29 achievements There are 29 of them, all with art we had commissioned specifically for this, and honestly we think it looks brilliant. Some of them you will pick up just by playing, some are going to take a serious amount of time, and a handful are hidden so you can go and find those ones yourselves. A few of the ones you can go for: First Blood - be the first to knock a human player out of a match The Iron Dome - shoot incoming nukes down with SAMs Davy Jones - sink warships in a single game Master of the World - win a public game on every single map in the game (good luck with that one) Most of them only track in public games, so you do not need to do anything different, just play like you normally would and they will start popping. If an achievement doesn't unlock when it should have, let us know what you were doing and which game it was over at our feedback form and we will get it sorted. Masters edition One other bit of news, the Masters edition has been approved by Steam. We are going to sit on it for a little longer though, because we would rather get the game more polished first and make sure anyone buying it feels like they are getting what they deserve. It will be worth the wait. And if you have not left a review yet, it genuinely does more for us than you would think. See you in game.

Nuke your neighbours in the massively multiplayer RTS game 'OpenFront' now on Steam

OpenFront has jumped over from being a browser game to a Steam release, and I can see it easily sucking away lots of my time firing off nukes at my neighbours.
