The demo comes to life: animated backgrounds arrive

The world of The Voynich Project is starting to come aliveWith this new update, several scenes in the demo that previously used static illustrations now feature subtle environmental animation.Slowly moving clouds, glowing lights, swaying leaves and other small environmental details make these locations feel a little more alive while preserving the illustrated style of the game.✨ Animated scenes included in this first batchThe dream sequences at the beginning of the story. The train station. The dormitory entrance. The city streets, both during the day and at night, as well as the park. The campus entrance, its surroundings and the backyard. The campus at night. The supermarket entrance and interior. The tea scene on the train. The tarot reading room. And this is only the beginning. More animated backgrounds will gradually be added in future demo updates.⚙️ Play the way you preferWe have also added a new “Animated backgrounds” setting under Options → General.Animated backgrounds are enabled by default, but you can disable them at any time if you prefer the original static illustrations or want better performance on lower-end systems. When disabled, the game will simply use the static versions of these backgrounds.🛠️ One more small improvementWe also reorganized parts of the Options menu, with clearer categories and less scrolling required to find each setting.More backgrounds will continue to come alive over time.Which location in The Voynich Project would you like to see animated next?

The Demo’s Biggest Fixes & Improvements Update

This update does not introduce a major expansion of new content, but it is the largest collection of fixes and improvements we have released for the The Voynich Project demo so far.Our main goal was to polish the overall experience, make reading more comfortable and correct several details across different scenes and systems.✨ New FeaturesNew display option for thought sequencesA new setting has been added to the Preferences menu, allowing players to choose how character thoughts are displayed:Special thought format: keeps the presentation used until now and remains enabled by default.Traditional dialogue format: displays each thought individually, just like the rest of the game’s dialogue. The second option is intended for players who prefer a more traditional reading experience or would like to keep the scene background visible while reading. All four routes are now shown at the end of the demoAfter reaching the end of the demo, players will now see all four available character routes, even if they were not all unlocked during that playthrough.Routes that have not yet been discovered will appear in gray, making it clearer that additional paths, choices and parts of the story are waiting to be explored in future playthroughs.🔧 Fixes and ImprovementsText inside thought sequences now fits correctly across every supported language and font size. This especially fixes cases in German where part of a character’s thoughts could appear outside the screen.Players can now scroll upward with the mouse wheel to reread previous thoughts from the same scene.Previously read thoughts are now displayed in a soft gray color, matching the visual behavior of regular dialogue. An unnecessary blank space appearing between some thoughts has been removed.Fixed an issue that could display an additional dark screen at the wrong moment. The music played when starting a new game now begins correctly in every situation. Each character’s distinctive dialogue color is now enabled by default from the...

    Final major demo update

Hello everyone! 🌿After a lot of work with the programming and design team, we have finished what we consider to be the final major update for the demo of The Voynich Project before fully moving into development of the complete game. ✨The biggest addition in this update is the Character Diary, a new section inside the Gallery. The Gallery is now divided into two tabs:ScenesCharactersIn the Diary, you can collect and check the characters you meet throughout the story. At first, unknown characters will appear as mysterious silhouettes with “????” instead of their names. Their identities will only be revealed when the protagonist actually learns them in the story. 👀Once a character is unlocked, you can open their individual profile, view their full illustration, and read different notes about them. These details are discovered as you progress, explore routes, and make important choices. Not everything can be unlocked in a single playthrough. This update is designed to reward replayability, since some notes depend on your decisions, and your progress is saved permanently between playthroughs. 🎮We also added an interaction bar for each character. In the demo, it is not meant to be fully completed, because there is still much more to discover in the full game. Basically, if the bar refuses to fill up, the mystery is doing its job. 👀✨A new Steam achievement has also been added, related to completing the Character Diary content available in the demo. 🏆Another important addition: Debby, the game’s tarot reader, finally has her furry version. 🐾🔮 Although Debby does not appear in the main story yet, you can already see her new version in the tarot minigame, available from the main menu. 🃏And there is more: the Character Gallery now includes new hidden characters, who will become available when the full game is released. For now, they remain as small hints of what is coming next. 🌙The Diary is fully compatible with both human mode and furry mode, so each character will appear acco...

    Cursor, credits and fixes ✨

Hello everyone! 🌿A new patch for The Voynich Project is now live, focused on improving visual details, polishing the overall experience, and preparing the demo for the next stage of development. Here are the main changes:🖱️ New custom cursor The game no longer uses the default Windows cursor. It now includes a custom cursor designed to better match the visual identity of The Voynich Project. This option can also be enabled or disabled from the game’s options menu.📝 Updated credits The credits section has been updated with more information about the people involved in the project.🛠️ Save menu overlay bug fixed The annoying visual bug that created a feeling of cursor misalignment in the save/load menu has been fixed.⏭️ New image for Skipping mode A special image has been added for when the game enters “Skipping mode,” replacing the simple text with something more visual and more fitting for the game’s style.🏆 Demo achievements migrated to the main game All achievements available in the demo have now been migrated to the main game.📌 An important note about the demo This will probably be the last relatively large update the demo receives before full development of the main game begins.During the next several months, if the demo receives any further updates, they will mainly focus on fixing visual bugs, glitches, or any other issues that may appear. So, if you still find anything that could be polished, improved, or fixed, please feel free to report it. Your feedback helps a lot in making sure the project reaches the best possible state.Thank you so much for continuing to support The Voynich Project. 💚
