Explore the depths of cosmic horror by uncovering forbidden lore in Occlude, a solo narrative strategy game from Tributary Games. Navigate through enigmatic rituals that challenge both mind and spirit.
About this game
You thought you knew the rules. You don't.
Have you ever done something you regret? What if I told you there was a way to fix it? Make it so that something never happened at all; or perhaps, just happened differently. What if I told you it was as simple as a game of solitaire?
What if I told you that the game’s name was Occlude?
The game’s not simple. The rules are hidden, and you find them by playing and experimenting. Make sure you have some coins - the coins will show when you’re on the right path. There are seven Rituals, each their own puzzle, increasing in difficulty.
There are seven Entities, and they know you’re playing. Don’t worry about them. Worrying doesn’t do anything. I shouldn’t have mentioned them at all.
Occlude is an occult game of solitaire stuffed with secrets. Piece together the rules even as they resist your attempts to decipher them.
Uncover the brain-melting story behind the game that was never a game as you chip away at reality one card at a time. Develop your mastery of each Ritual to gain access to even deeper, forbidden lore in the Archives.
Solitaire: but not as you know it.
Seven Rituals: progress through increasingly complex card puzzles with unique hidden rulesets.
Twenty-four Cardinals: unlock Cardinals, variations of Rituals that stand as unique puzzles in their own right.
Two modes: The fiendishly difficult Classic Mode and our new, pleasantly vexing Story Mode with less punishing RNG, a second free cell and unlimited Undo.
Reality-bending narrative: uncover a cosmic horror story about a world broken by countless attempts to fix it.
Atmospheric sound design: immersive audio cues that shift based on your closeness to solving each puzzle.
Secret documents: discover fragments of forbidden texts that provide clues about Occlude's origins.
Terrible secrets: for those foolish enough to look for them.

Swap your Cards for Stamps in Over the Alps!
Greeting Nobles,Swap your swords for poison tipped umbrellas and council robes for suits, it's time to go Over the Alps! Before we were at Tributary, Sam, Harry and Nick all worked at Stave Studios on a game called Over the Alps. That studio sadly folded so we as Tributary have stepped in as custodians to make sure the game didn't disappear! It's an award-winning choices-matter spy thriller set in 1939 Switzerland. You play as a secret agents, whose only line home is a postcard written in invisible ink. The first story, A Case Of The Chateau Vercoli, was written by narrative royalty Jon Ingold (80 Days, Heaven's Vault) and the second, The King of the Mountain, by Tributary's resident storyteller supreme Harry Tuffs.Charm, deceive or strong-arm your way across the Alps in a branching story with over 100k words for each of the supported 15 languages, with more than 2,600 choices that can lead to multiple endings. It's the kind of superb writing and story design you'd expect from the King of the Castle team, and right now it's the cheapest it's ever been with a price drop.In fact, we've gone a step further - If you're reading this close to re-launch it's 50% until the 9th of July!Go check it out here:If you're a fan of the studio and want us to make more games like Occlude, the best way you can support us is to buy a copy. We're a small studio and so every penny from a sale goes to straight back into development.Plus, you get a great game to play while supporting your local indie! One last thing. The story was always meant to have a third and final chapter - The Devil's Quill. It never shipped, so we rebuilt it, and it's free to play in your browser right now.If you're unsure about playing OTA, why not give it a go? It's 41,000 words of never before seen Harry Tuffs narrative genius for free.Play The Devil's Quill on itch.io here! Thanks for reading and for your support over the years. If you haven't yet joined the Discord do hop on. There's even a few Occlude mods being wo...Read full article on Community Announcements (Tributary Games)Patch NotesOfficial
v2.0.3 Occlude Hotfix
We're back from that space of unbeing. Not quite here and not quite there...with an update!Update 2.0.3It's a small but fun one this time. For those who just want the headlines, here are the fixes included:Fixes to the tutorial for all players. Some players were experiencing an issue where the instructions on the tutorial didn't match the position of the cards on the tableau. This is now fixed for all players!Consistent card deals across all machines. A lot of work went on behind the scenes to make sure every time you play Occlude it is solvable, even if it doesn't feel like it. However, a tricky bug meant that, for some players, that effort was all for naught. There is a full explanation below for those interested in the nitty-gritty of how Occlude shuffles a pack of cardsIf you were one of the players who didn't quite believe our promise that every deal is solvable, maybe give the game another play and see if you fare better. Maybe you were one of the unlucky few that were affected by this issue.A Far Too Detailed History of Occlude's RNGIn the early versions of Occlude the deck was shuffled completely randomly every time. There was no clever game development magic going on in the background. Sometimes you got a good deal, and sometimes you got a bad one. I like to keep things simple (sometimes too simple) and kept saying to Sam "It doesn't matter if a deal is unsolvable, players will just click redeal". Sam was quietly sceptical.Without doing a lot of work it was difficult to know how often the game was solvable. A quick google shows that Klondike (the kind of solitaire you are most familiar with from Windows in the 90s) is solvable around 82% of the time if you play perfectly. That didn't seem bad to me. Occlude was harder but surely couldn't be that much harder, right? Then we came to our first public playtest...The feedback was damning. Not only did players find the game hard but they were often convinced it was unwinnable. We were told we were mad for putting...Read full article on Community Announcements (Tributary Games)Patch NotesOfficial
v2.0.2 Occlude Hotfix
Hey all,Over the course of the day we spotted a minor bug which we weren't happy leaving, so we're rolling out a second hotfix of day.The South Cardinal for Mr Slab The Butcher Ritual had a small issue that caused some strangeness. To go into any more detail spoils it for new players, however, this has been resolved. We didn't include the name of the Cardinal you were completing on the Round Over screen. This potentially stopped players bragging about it - Disaster! So we resolved this too. We'll keep on tweaking the game where we see fit. If you see a bug or have any sort of issue, feel free to comment or post in the Discussion section of the community page.SRead full article on Community Announcements (Tributary Games)Patch NotesOfficial
v2.0.1 Occlude Hotfix
Hey all,We spotted two issues with our Cardinals release we've resolved in this high speed hotfix:The West Cardinal for Mr Slab The Butcher Ritual had an issue with one of the coins that made it only partially playable. The Ritual Select screen was reporting no coins for the Photograph Ritual if you scrolled to it after selecting a Cardinal on a previous Ritual, regardless of the amount of Coins you did have. Our apologies! We've tested the Cardinals to death, but adding 243% more content to the game meant we were bound to miss one or two small things. Thanks to those who reported, we'll keep up the pace and fix any other issues as fast as possible.SRead full article on Community Announcements (Tributary Games)AnnouncementsOfficial
