About the Game

Welcome aboard the largest mobile fortress in the floating lands — Whalington! Take control of Bolt as you pilot your mech through a complex world of platforming and combat. Use terrain and settings wisely to overcome obstacles and gradually uncover the truth behind this mysterious realm. Try breaking the fourth wall to discover META elements hidden within the game and enjoy a wildly imaginative gameplay experience.

Scattered across the mobile fortress are strange devices that let you rewrite the rules of the world — literally. Break free from traditional Metroidvania logic and forge your own path.

  • Modify Yourself: Turn Bolt into a mouse to sneak through tight tunnels and take down the cheese thief lurking within.

  • Modify the World: Change your HP into keys to unlock doors that were never meant to open.

  • Modify Everything: Turn your mech into a tank, transform doors into bats — nothing is off-limits in this playful, rule-bending adventure.

  • Explore a Creative, Non-Linear World: Unleash your imagination and use every new ability to parkour across walls, bounce off surfaces, and uncover hidden corners — just like a true acrobatic cat.

  • Secrets Around Every Corner: Hidden rooms, shortcuts, and surprises await those who trust their instincts. Follow your curiosity — you never know what you'll find.

  • Seamless Cat-Mech Synergy: Use the mech’s firepower to collect cat food — or ditch the clunky metal and slip into tight spaces only a nimble feline can reach.

  • Fearless Feline Action: Climb, leap, and glide through trap-filled ruins as a quick and daring Siamese cat.

  • Brute-Force Mech Mayhem: Discover weapon blueprints across the map and craft unique gear — from charge-up gauntlets to bubble gatlings. Blast through anything in your path!

  • Explore a Fully Hand-Drawn 2D Comic World: Every zone is interconnected, packed with personality, and filled with quirky characters to meet and stories to uncover.

  • Face Formidable Foes: Each area hides powerful enemies — master Bolt’s agility and the mech’s firepower to overcome them and fulfill your mission.

  • A World Built by Cats, for Cats: Save your progress in cardboard boxes, zoom through the skies on popcorn rockets, and meet eccentric felines — like an art cat clutching the Mona Lisa. Pure cat-lover energy, with a chaotic twist.

  • Break the Fourth Wall: META elements are woven throughout the game — the deeper you go, the more surreal truths you'll uncover.

    Devlog: Cat City

Hello everyone, this is Bread, producer of Bolt & Whalington, who has somehow just wandered into a city full of cats. Why a Cat City? 🐱Why is there suddenly a whole cat settlement in the game? Quite a few players told us before that while The Sardine had some lovely scenery, it did not really feel like a place where anyone actually lived. So recently, we gave The Sardine a bit of a “renovation.”A Livelier Sardine✨Now it finally feels much more like a lively little town. You will find all kinds of cats wandering around the place. They are all Bolt’s good friends, obviously. Build Your Own Cat City🏠We also plan to keep expanding the main hub in future updates. Materials you collect while exploring will be used to decorate and improve the town, and you will even be able to upgrade the “rooms” of your favorite cats. So at long last, all that random junk you keep picking up will finally have somewhere to go.Meet the Construction Crew🛠️Besides the NPCs you can talk to and interact with, we have also added something every growing town desperately needs: a construction crew.Watching little worker robots busily hauling things back and forth across The Sardine instantly makes the whole place feel much more alive. At this rate, the glorious future of Cat City may not be so far away after all. What else would you like to see in the future of Cat City? Feel free to share your ideas in the comments!

    Devlog: Weird Weapons

Hello everyone, this is Bread. When making a game, designing normal weapons can sometimes be surprisingly difficult. But whenever our team starts working on strange weapons, the ideas seem to come effortlessly. And that is how some rather ridiculous creations have found their way into the game. In this devlog, we would like to introduce a few of the more entertaining weapons you can find in Whalington. Shadowless GauntletsA pair of multi-hit gauntlets capable of repeatedly knocking enemies back! They may not turn you into One-Punch Man, but they certainly let you throw a lot of punches.Kung Fu ChickIt is a chicken, but not an ordinary one. Any chick dressed in a training suit inspired by Bruce Lee’s iconic outfit must naturally know a thing or two about kung fu.Splashing GatlingWho has never dreamed of unlimited firepower? Sorry, we mean unlimited waterpower. And do you not think the little duck on top is adorable? If you have any even wilder ideas for weapons, feel free to share them in the comments. Who knows? You might someday see your own creation appear in the game. And if you enjoy what we are making, please consider adding the game to your wishlist. It would mean a lot to us. Thanks and we will see you in the next devlog!

    Devlog: Sequence Breaking

Hello everyone, this is Bread. In this devlog, we would like to talk about sequence breaking. In our game, if you follow the normal progression route, it takes around half an hour of exploration and a boss fight before the protagonist can obtain a new ability. But players who truly understand the game and its rules can get it in just 30 seconds!By cleverly using Bolt’s downward slash and the ability to jump out of the mech, a route that would normally take dozens of minutes can be shortened to just a few seconds. And no, this is not a bug. It is a reward for players who really understand the game. In Metroidvania games, new abilities are often used to control the order of exploration. Players usually need something like a double jump or a dash before they can reach new areas. But once players become familiar with a game, many of them naturally want to break through these designed limitations. That is sequence breaking.Besides developing games, I also often play Metroidvania games myself. Please forgive me for being drawn in by excellent games like MIO, because I have also had plenty of thoughts about sequence breaking. When making Bolt & Whalington, we did not want to completely block off opportunities to deviate from the standard route. As long as it does not break the save file, lock the player’s progression, or cause them to miss important content, we would like to keep these possibilities in the game. Because at its core, this is also a kind of reward for exploration. So, what would you do? Would you honestly defeat the boss first, or would you spend less time and “steal” the ability directly? Finally, if you are interested in our game, please consider adding it to your wishlist. It helps us a lot.

    Devlog: The Magical Setting Machine

Hello everyone, this is Bread. As many of you may know, our game features quite a few meta elements. During exploration, players will also come across a strange device called the Setting Machine. The Setting Machine is not a regular mechanism, nor is it simply a tool that grants the protagonist a new ability. It is more like a machine that can rewrite certain “settings” in the game world. Through it, you can change yourself, alter obstacles, and even redefine the “identity” of certain objects. For example, while exploring the map, you may encounter an extremely narrow passage. With a cat’s rather solid body, there is obviously no way to squeeze through. However, with the Setting Machine, you can turn yourself into a mouse. As a result, a passage that was once impossible to enter becomes a new path forward. Even more interestingly, the mice that once treated you as an enemy will react differently after your identity changes. They will no longer see you as a threat, but instead chat with you like friends.Beyond changing yourself, the Setting Machine can also alter objects in the world. For example, a gate may be blocking your way. In a more traditional Metroidvania design, the player might need to take a long detour, reach the other side, activate a mechanism, and create a new shortcut. But in Bolt & Whalington, you can also choose a far less reasonable solution: turn the gate into a bat. When a “gate” is no longer a gate, it naturally no longer has the responsibility of blocking your path. A route that was once sealed off is opened. The Setting Machine can also make seemingly ordinary objects become rather unusual. For example, imagine a treasure chest placed so high up that it is almost impossible to reach. But what if you turn that chest into Bolt?Once the treasure chest becomes a cat running around everywhere, you will need to chase it down, defeat it, and then claim the treasure inside. This is the kind of experience we want the Setting Machine to bring to players. Devlog: A Cat Roundup

Hi everyone, I'm Bread, the producer of Bolt & Whalington. As many of you know, our protagonist Bolt is a Siamese cat. Many players are immediately drawn to his strangely charming, slightly goofy personality when they first see him. But in our game, Bolt isn't the only “cat” you'll meet! So today, let's take a quick look at some of the feline, and feline-adjacent, characters in Bolt & Whalington. Snow LeopardFirst, let's talk about Captain Snow, the instructor aboard the Sardine. She is a snow leopard from the genus Panthera, and is mainly responsible for the daily training of the crew.Other Feline FriendsOn the way to the Sardine's engine area, Bolt will encounter several coworkers whose path has been blocked by a metal gate. These three coworkers are also feline characters. From left to right, they are a Pallas's cat, a Japanese Bobtail, and a British Shorthair. Have you encountered them in the game?OwlDuring the journey, Bolt will also meet his cousin, Nut, who is an owl. Strictly speaking, owls are not part of the cat family. But since many people joke that owls often look surprisingly cat-like, we decided to turn that idea into a small gag in the game. Nut lives aboard the Whalington. Although he may not look particularly smart, he always manages to point Bolt in the right direction whenever his younger cousin gets lost during his journey through the Whalington. In that sense, he actually fits the image and role of an owl quite well. That's all for today's cat roundup! Which “cat” is your favorite? Do you have a cute cat of your own? Feel free to let us know in the comments. There are many more animals in Bolt & Whalington, and we'll introduce more of them in future devlogs. See you next time! Orca Studio & OKJOY
