In Fading Light, explore an ancient world shrouded in perpetual darkness. With just a companion named Spark to light your path, craft arrows from your surroundings and uncover lost secrets to survive the shadows.

About this game

Step into Fading Light, a Metroidvania adventure set in a mysterious and dangerous world, where survival depends on your wits and your unlikely companion, Spark. Explore a twilight land filled with peril, where every shadow holds a threat, and every step forward uncovers new secrets. In this dark and treacherous environment, you'll play as Noteo, a resourceful survivor from a hidden tribe, with Spark, a curious firefolk companion by your side. Together, you’ll navigate through ancient ruins, face terrifying creatures, and uncover the mysteries that lie hidden beneath the darkness.

Traverse a vast, interconnected world filled with dangerous biomes, each with its own distinct environments, creatures, and challenges. The world is designed for discovery, allowing you to explore, fight, and uncover secrets at your own pace.

Master the unique abilities of Noteo while relying on Spark’s light and support as you progress through the game. Work together to overcome obstacles, solve puzzles, and face the dangers lurking in the shadows.

Each biome culminates in a climactic boss fight, where strategy and quick reflexes are essential. These battles are designed to test your mastery of Noteo’s skills and your teamwork with Spark.

Collect materials from the world around you to craft tools, weapons, and items that will aid in your survival. Adapt to the ever-changing threats and overcome the hostile environment.

In a world where light is scarce, Spark is your greatest ally. Keep him close, as he’s the only thing standing between you and the overwhelming darkness of this forgotten land.

Experience the story through the gameplay itself, with a blend of environmental storytelling, voice-acted dialogue, and subtle narrative cues that enrich the world without breaking the pace of the action.

As you journey deeper into this mysterious world, you'll uncover more than you could ever imagine. With Spark lighting the way, will you have what it takes to survive the darkness and discover the truth hidden within?

Playtest access requests are now open!

Hey Firefolks! The Fading Light playtest is no longer invite only. You can now request access directly from our Steam page.Spots are limited. We are letting people in a group at a time, so if you do not get in on the first round, you stay in the pool for the next one. This is on purpose. Smaller groups mean we can actually read everything that comes back and fix things between batches instead of drowning. What we need from you is simple. Play it, then fill out the feedback form included in the build. It takes a few minutes, and it is by far the most useful thing you can do for us right now. Bug reports, things that felt unclear, moments that did not land, all of it goes straight into what we change before the demo. Thanks for being here. See you in the dark!

Development Update: The Demo Is Done, Co-op Is In, and a New Trailer

Hey everyone!Last time we wrote to you, a lot of it was promises. The demo was on its way. A new trailer was coming. We'd be building a proper demo experience instead of a quick teaser. We're writing now because all of that has actually happened, and there's one thing in here we didn't see coming when we made those promises.First though, to everyone who wishlisted and waited through the quiet stretch: thank you. It's a real thing for us, not a line we say. Here's what we'll cover this time:A) The Demo Is Finished B) A New Way to Play: Co-op C) New Steam Page & Trailer D) Where This Is HeadingLet's dive in one more time!A) The Demo Is FinishedWe told you we were taking the harder road, a vertical slice over a throwaway build, and that's what we made. It's done! You'll spend about an hour in the late Mountain biome, which is one of the hardest parts of the game to survive and the hardest to sit through emotionally. We picked it on purpose. It's where Noteo and Spark are pushed furthest, where the freezing wind turns Spark's light into something you have to defend rather than just enjoy, and where every system we've built leans on you at the same time. You won't see every enemy or mechanic, and you won't get the full story. But what's there has been polished as close to final as we could get it. We want you walking away having felt both halves of the game at once: how the systems work, and what it costs Noteo and Spark to keep moving. There's a step before launch, though. We're putting the demo through playtesting now to hunt down bugs and hear what actually lands and what doesn't. Internal testing is wrapped, and we're opening it up to volunteer testers anywhere in the world. If you want in, reach us on Reddit or at contact@punicagames.comB) A New Way to Play: Co-opThis is the part we couldn't have told you about last time. Fading Light has a co-op mode now.The solo game is untouched, so let's be clear on that first. On your own, Spark is still his own creature. He moves,...

    Fading Light Development Updates

Greetings! We know it’s been some time since our last update here. Since the launch of the Coming Soon page, development has been progressing steadily behind the scenes. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has wishlisted the game so far, and to let you know exactly what we’ve been working on since then. This update will be covering four main parts:A) Codebase Refactor & Optimization B) Upcoming Demo Plans C) Design Progress D) What's Next Let’s dive in! A) Codebase Refactor & OptimizationRight after launching the Coming Soon page, we made a decision that set the tone for the next few months of development: to refactor almost the entire codebase. It wasn’t glamorous work, and it meant putting content creation on pause for about three months, but it was absolutely necessary for the future of Fading Light. The reason was simple: scalability. Fading Light is built on custom systems that are beautiful but demanding. Spark’s living fire, our stylized toon shading, physics-based animations like Noteo’s cloak, and particle-driven VFX all look great, but without careful optimization, they would have created serious performance issues. On top of that, we are planning some ambitious features like: A heat calculation system that affects Spark’s health, enemy behavior, and environmental hazards.Burnable objects and heat-following mobs that respond dynamically to Spark and environmental heat.Spark’s decision-making AI, which allows him to act on his own, react to Noteo’s actions, and even choose his own dialogue lines along with his movements based on his momentary emotions and the context of the story. All of this adds up to a heavy computational load, and we didn’t want performance to become a barrier for players. So, we went deep into the foundations. The refactor wasn’t just a cleanup, it was nearly a full rewrite. We built custom libraries specifically tailored to the needs of Fading Light, redesigned how different systems communicate with each other, and ...
