Meticulous Battlemaps: Engage in blood-soaked conflicts like Hannibal's magnum opus at Cannae, the ambush at Lake Trasimene, the brutal surprise attack at the Trebia River, or the decisive Battle of Zama. Carthage: Bellum Punicum's battlemaps are crafted and verified using detailed historical sources, ensuring you fight on the exact same ground where history was made.
Authentic Ancient Warfare: Command historically accurate unit types, from the disciplined Roman acies triplex formations and heavy legionary infantry to the dreaded Carthaginian elephants, and Iberian mercenary light troops.

Dev Log 14: The Sounds of War
Hi everyone,Music is an important part of any game, and Carthage: Bellum Punicum is no different. In Carthage: Bellum Punicum, the music is designed to react to the world around you. Your battles aren’t just accompanied by one fixed track, but by dynamic music that changes depending on your enemy and the stage of battle you’re in.If that’s music to your ears, then today’s devlog is for you. Today, we’ll be going into exactly what it takes to write the soundtrack for a time millennia gone by. The video version of this devlog is here, and includes the words and footage of composer Cosme Leites for your viewing pleasure:The Sounds of WarThe Music of BattleThe music in Carthage: Bellum Punicum has been created to be more than just background ambience. It’s been designed to constantly adapt to what is happening in the game, helping every battle and campaign feel unique. In the throes of battle, the music you’ll hear is determined by the enemy army’s faction. You’ll hear something different depending on whether you’re fighting Romans, Iberian tribes, Gauls, Greeks or Carthaginian forces. Each cultural group has had its own battle soundtrack carefully crafted using many different styles and instrumentation, creating a distinct musical identity for each. Outside of the distinct musical identity for each enemy faction, every battle track is also divided into three dynamic intensity levels that you’ll hear as the battle unfolds. The first intensity plays before the battle starts. You’ll hear this when manoeuvring your armies into position, preparing for the inevitable clash to begin. The second starts sounding as the armies start the engagement, bringing more tension and energy to match the battle begins. And finally, the music reaches its highest intensity as your units are engaged in the fray, ramping up the energy as the battle does. Campaign NotesDynamic music is present in more than just your battles, though. The campaign map follows a similar philosophy, with some specific...Read full article on Community Announcements (Aquila_Jenny)AnnouncementsOfficial
Dev Log #13 - Logistics & Economy
Hi everyone, “An army marches on its stomach”. Waging a successful military campaign is more than just your soldiers – you need to think about your logistics too. In today's devlog we're breaking down those logistics and the economy: how armies stay supplied in the field, how the faction economy is managed behind the scenes, how resources physically move across the world, and how it all comes together. You can also check a video version of this devlog here: Army Storage SystemSo, how are your supplies delivered to your troops? They aren’t instantly teleported from one place to another, they’re delivered via the army storage system. Every army draws from a supply hub. In the example we’re using in today’s dev log, it’s the city of Carthage. Through that connection, the army receives food, equipment, and other goods, staying supplied as it moves and fights. The hub isn’t a permanent one though. Clicking on a city and selecting ‘Set Hub’ will switch it to that location, and the army will immediately draw from the new city instead. Your supply lines are flexible, and logistics can be redirected quickly depending on both your strategy and the settlements you control. This means that expansion and conquering new places can bring more to your supply lines – and conversely that losing your key hubs can strangle your economy and campaigns.Faction LogisticsThe full faction economy overview shows daily production, consumption, total balance, and current storage for every resource. Here you get the management layer behind army logistics, where everything comes from, and how it links back to your current supply hub. Resources TransportationAs we mentioned earlier, resources aren’t instantly teleported from one place to another; they’re physically transported across the world by caravans and ships, moving goods from production sites to where they're needed. Each caravan and ship carries a set amount of resources, so your logistics stay visible and trackable on the map. Don’t get ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Aquila_Jenny)AnnouncementsOfficial
Dev Log #12 - Battle Formations
Hi everyone,Today's devlog covers one of the systems that makes every battle in Carthage: Bellum Punicum feel unique: AI battle formations. We'll also be showing two new visual display options coming to the game. You can also check a video version of this devlog here:Battle FormationsIn Carthage: Bellum Punicum, AI commanders choose from a wide variety of battle formations, each with its own tactical logic. Roman armies fight differently from Iberian ones. Gaulish commanders approach the battlefield differently from Carthaginian ones. Even within the same culture, individual commanders can favor different formations based on their personality traits. How AI Chooses Formations Three factors determine which formation an AI commander picks:Culture: Every culture (Iberians, Gauls, Romans, etc.) has its own pool of battle formations reflecting its historical military traditions. This is the primary factor in a commander's choices.Commander Personality: Each culture’s formations include a wide variety, from classical to more unusual ones. Traits like "Conservative" or "Traditionalist" favor stable formations with strong central lines and protected flanks. Traits like "Innovative" open the door to more unconventional approaches.Army Composition: Some formations suit cavalry-heavy forces; others suit infantry better. The AI takes stock of what it has and adapts.Formation Examples Classic: a balanced formation with a solid center and cavalry on both flanks.Triple Axis: a Roman-style formation with three central lines: light infantry in front, medium infantry for depth, and heavy infantry at the rear, with cavalry on both flanks.Broken Triples: a variation of Triple Axis where the front lines split into smaller groups, allowing the second line to fill gaps and push forward.Split Triplex: a more open Triple Axis, where all three lines spread across a greater battlefield width, with the flanks arranged in a V.Spearhead: a V-shaped formation where the center strikes first, givi...Read full article on Community Announcements (Aquila_Jenny)AnnouncementsOfficial
Dev Log #11 - Visibility, Scouting & Delayed Information
Hi everyone, Mendog here!In this devlog, we will chat about visibility, scouting, and delayed information in Carthage: Bellum Punicum, all key mechanics that allow you to control intelligence when waging war. You can also check a video version of this devlog here: Visibility SystemsThe campaign map uses two different visibility systems. The first one represents unexplored territory. These areas appear in the style of an ancient map, displaying only land and water. Once one of your armies or scouts explores a region, this layer disappears permanently, and the detailed terrain becomes visible. The second layer is your standard Fog of War. It appears as a darker shade over the terrain and shows the areas where your armies and scouts are providing intelligence. The information you receive depends on the distance from your forces. Nearby areas provide real-time information, while distant areas show past events. The farther the distance, the greater the delay. ScoutingScouts are essential for gathering intelligence about enemy cities and armies. In the game, there are two types of scouting: automatic scouting and manual scouting. Both can be active at the same time. With automatic scouting, several scout units operate around your army. They do not move far away and usually provide information in real time.Manual scouting allows you to assign specific targets to your scouts. These targets can be locations on the map, such as cities or armies. When targeting a city, scouts can attempt to infiltrate it. A successful infiltration allows them to gather detailed information about the city. The longer they remain inside, the more information they collect. After some time, new missions may become available, such as sabotage operations. When targeting an army, scouts can either follow it from a safe distance or attempt to infiltrate it. Following an army is safer but provides less information, whereas infiltration is riskier, but unlocks additional missions, such as sabotaging supplies...Read full article on Community Announcements (bendirman)
