Explore the Howling Woods as you navigate through its dangers, from outsmarting werewolves to dodging mummy traps. Created by Lee Sargent's Raguthra Studios, this casual adventure awaits release in 2025.

About this game

You signed up for a simple job - pull some weeds, make a little cash. Instead, you got bitten by a werewolf, tricked by an old woman, and thrown into a maze of crypts, curses, and questionable life choices.

Now you have two hours to undo your fate before you sprout fur and start howling at the moon.

A Light-hearted Horror Adventure

The Curse of the Howling Woods is a 2D adventure game that blends classic horror tropes, witty dialogue, and cozy but chaotic gameplay. Navigate haunted woods, solve puzzles, dodge traps, and try not to get mugged by a pumpkin.

Features

-      Cozy Combat – Enemies? One hit and they’re gone. You? Well… hopefully, you’re lucky.

-      A Maze of Mayhem – Crypts, quicksand, rolling boulders—this forest wants you to fail.

-      A Cast of Oddballs – Befriend (or avoid) scam-artist Eudora, overly dramatic ghosts, and Tim the werewolf, who insists it was just business.

Survive the night, break the curse, and maybe - just maybe - get paid for your trouble.

Re-Cursed Edition - Free Major Update Coming Before June

The Curse of the Howling Woods is getting a complete rebuild.Re-Cursed Edition is a ground-up remake in Unity, featuring new art, expanded maps, new mechanics, and everything we learned from watching the community play the original version. It's coming before the end of May, and it's free for everyone who already owns the game. What's new in Re-Cursed EditionOptional timer - Play with the two-hour curse for pressure and stakes, or turn it off and explore at your own pace. Both approaches are supported and both are rewarding.Massively expanded interactivity - The original left a lot of things in the world that you wanted to interact with. Re-Cursed makes good on that. More secrets, more shortcuts, more environmental storytelling, more hidden commentary for people who like to look in every corner.Achievements - For the completionists. And for the people who play weird.New art direction - Rebuilt with the Elthen asset pack, giving Re-Cursed Edition a more atmospheric, detailed look that suits its standalone identity.Bigger, more organic maps - The same maze energy with more breathing room. Same locations, expanded and rearranged slightly to better serve the story.Improved Tim encounter - The rock-paper-scissors mechanic with Tim the werewolf is still in, with better UI and more story context.Expanded cast - A couple of new characters. A couple of significantly fleshed-out returning ones. One character transformation we're keeping quiet for now.For current ownersRe-Cursed Edition is a free update. No extra purchase required. This is our thank you to everyone who supported the original. The Curse of the Howling Woods was our first commercially released game. Re-Cursed Edition is our commitment that first games don't have to stay first drafts.

The Curse of the Howling Woods re-cursed edition Feb update

Hello, Woods wanderers. A quick Howling Woods- Re-cursed Edition progress update from us:The core maps are rebuilt and walkable again (crypts + pyramid/sand temple + woodland areas) — we’re back in the “it feels like a game” phase rather than pure construction. We’ve been wiring scenes together / registering scenes for deployment so the rebuild can be played through end-to-end more reliably. The main menu has been refurbished, which surfaced some save-file + “code not firing” issues that are now being hunted down and cleaned up.A previously-compromised feature is getting the proper treatment: the rock–paper–scissors mini-game has been rebuilt and is ~90% complete, with a much better feel than the original implementation. The world is getting extra love: bridge/scene polish + atmosphere (including water animation) and ongoing NPC/enemy work aimed at making the woods feel more alive (and enemy behaviour more “threatening, not frustrating”).Thanks for being here — we’ll share more as the rebuild keeps clicking into place.-Lee and Hannah

The Curse of the Howling Woods: The Re-Cursed Edition

Halloween might be over, but the woods aren’t done with us yet. We’re thrilled to announce The Curse of the Howling Woods: The Re-Cursed Edition – a full rebuild of the original game, returning from the grave with sharper dialogue, smoother interactions, and more personality than ever before. This isn’t a patch or a remaster – it’s a complete resurrection. No tricks, just treats.Right now I’m deep in the rebuild – fixing what didn’t quite land the first time, polishing the parts that did, and making sure this version howls a little louder. Thanks to everyone who supported the original release – can’t wait for you to explore the new and improved woodsExpect the "re-cursed" edition before the end of the year!
