About this game

Gappy's Adventure was not only created to be a fun platforming game, but to make a beautiful piece of interactive art. Designed from the ground-up to feel truly special <3

  • FRESH MOVEMENT! / Making Gappy feel as fun to control as possible was TOP PRIORITY! taking inspiration from both 2D and 3D platformers from all generations, Gappy is equipped with multiple different moves that can be chained together, giving YOU the freedom to tackle levels however you like! Play as casually or complex as you like!

  • MORE THAN JUST LEVELS! / Each level was lovingly designed to be MORE than just a shallow obstacle course. Although ALL Levels are packed to the brim with fun & challenging platforming, the game gives you time to simply soak in the lovely scenery, or completely mix up how you play! You'll never know what's coming next!

  • FUN FOR ALL! / Gappy was designed for all skill levels in mind! Without sacrificing it's spine. No invincibility or level skips after too many failed attempts here! Simply put, levels don't REQUIRE that you maintain top speed, pull-off complex maneuvers or chain together crazy combos, just highly rewards them! Speaking of which . . .

  • PERFECTED PLAY! / Every level records your BEST TIME and BEST SCORE! Break every block, collect every tab, and max-out combos to set crazy Highscores! And do it all quickly to try and set a best time too! Share records with your friends, or see just how far you can push yourself!

  • EXTRA STUFF! / Unlockable Post-Game Levels, Built-in Custom level Creator, Debug Mode, Rare Collectible Cards and MUCH MUCH MORE!

GAPPY BI-MONTHLY #9 - The Longest Post Yet

coverart by 'SSF Patrons of 2026 (Michigan & Pennsylvania)' HELLO, STRAP INGonna keep this intro really short because we have a LOT to talk about! This WILL be a long read because a lot has happened, a lot is currently happening, and a lot more stuff WILL be happening soon. But before we jump in I just wanna wish everyone a happy fall! Summer officially is over as of the 22nd and let's hope fall treats us well! Without further ado let's just get right into all the stuff I have to share with you! :) GAPPY'S 10th ANNIVERSARYOn the 5th of September this month, my game development career and Gappy (as a game character) would celebrate it's 10th Anniversary! I already wrote something substantial about this event on the games post but the original version of the first game was made publicly available for the first time in about 10-ish years as well, it might be confusing what I'm saying out of context so for a better understanding just go check out the game on Newgrounds and read that games description. It wasn't anything huge as I had nothing planned for it but if you are dying to see what my first ever finished video game looks like, well now you can!SLEEPY SEPTEMBERAnd to get the last of the smaller updates out of the way, I just wanted to be transparent about the games progress thus far. Slow, very slow. I would say it's stopped completely but I have at the very least opened my workflow and gotten a few small things done but nothing truly substation al during the entirety of September. This has been the longest break I've ever taken with this game for the almost 3 years I've been working on it, and it's been nice if a bit stressful. Luckily, the work I got done for the Short Short Fest Demo did put me in a good spot to take this break, but it's also felt like I've had really bad art block for an extended amount of time, so Instead of forcing myself to work and making sloppy progress I decided I needed to sit back and try doing something else completely detached from G...

GAPPY BI-MONTHLY #7(.2) - Ancient (Development) History Gallery!

coverart by 'SomeApe' Editor's Pre-Note! This is a bit strange, but this entire post has been changed from it's original posting! The original post seemed a bit too... generic? I don't mind writing short updates but this one felt just too similar to update #4. So, Since I ALSO forgot to mirror the post on Newgrounds when it was posted. I decided to change up the post to be more interesting, update some info, and make this post all the more interesting! So without further ado.,,Hello! Welcome! It's summertime! Like I mentioned prior I wanted to make this post a bit more interesting! So I'll be showing off some old gifs from Gappy's early development and talking about it! Cool? Okay, let's ride The History Gallery Date : 10/11/22 So this one of the oldest gifs I have of Gappy's adventure! Pretty much no mechanics outside of moving and jumping along with some basic camera following mechanics. I'm someone who really likes to draw the main character first before I even start the game so I have a feel for what every other animation should look like afterwards. And to make sure the character is readable and has a goof silhouette.Date : 10/19/22This is only a few days after the first gif with some new moves and improved momentum! Date : 11/20/22Here's some footage of the early cloud stage in Gappy's playable prototype called 'Gappy's playground' where the physics and main gameplay mechanics are taking form. Also! A look at the early hud which looks similar to how it looks today but with a HP bar and 'CASH' instead of 'TABS' because you collect nickels and pennies instead. Date : 3/24/23After the prototype had released in January for Newground's pixel day event. It was received well! Up to that point I had no idea what I REALLY wanted Gappy's adventure to be quite yet. Obviously a platformer but in which way? A more precision, tough-as-nails, super meat boy type game or something more traditional. Around this time I had also felt my pixel art skills were improving. And altho...

    GAPPY BI-MONTHLY #6 - Changes

coverart by 'My little cousin Cass' Big ChangesHello everyone! This post is going to be quite short, again. I don't really wanna have a long winded intro and just want to get into what these 'Big Changes' are. But before we get into that, I want to start off by saying the game is still actively being worked on and is going smoothly overall! I'm sorry I haven't shown much new, interesting stuff pretty much since last year. A lot of the work I've been doing is mostly back-end stuff, technical improvements, and optimizations. Things that shrimply aren't that intresting to talk about. Anyways, what's changing?Going SoloIn the Spring of 2024 I had asked Graeme of 2 Left Thumbs if he would be interested in working with me to help publish Gappy's Adventure. Now, Almost 2 years later after he had decided to take Gappy under his wing, I have made the decision to step away from the 2 Left Thumbs publishing label and have decided to continue development solo. This decision was made almost entirely for personal reasons, mostly boiling down to me just wanting to be in total control of Gappy, and it's continued development. Warts and all.Now of course, people will immediately jump to the idea that there was some falling out or huge drama behind the scenes. There wasn't, the split was civil and done respectfully on both sides. I genuinely do wish Graeme and all future 2 Left Thumb projects the best! And I don't think he'd mind me repeating that he wishes Gappy and myself the best going forward! And I give my deepest thank you to Graeme for the help he's given me up to this point, and for even giving me a shot at something like this in the first place! I am forever grateful

    GAPPY BI-MONTHLY #5 - Steam Playtest & Community

coverart by 'Gappy Pixel Collage 2026 Participants!' HAPPY NEW YEAR!Hello everyone! It's been a while. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday merriment and fun and that the new year is treating you well! It's hard to believe 2026 is already here, that also means that 2016 was 10 years ago at this point. 2016 was a very key year in my life because it was the year I released my first game, the first few weeks into my freshmen year of high school. A long time before then I had ideas for games that I would sketch out and plan but never had the means to actually make them. And once I got my own laptop for my birthday the year prior I started messing around with Rpgmaker and then eventually construct 2 which is what I still use today! In fact, many of you may be shocked to hear that THIS GAME is being made with what is essentially a beginner's game development software but it's true! However, I believe this may end up being my LAST game made in the program as I'd like to try and pivot towards Godot. This month's installment will be relatively short, but still exciting non-the-less! As My life has gotten a bit more settled, I've been able to get a lot more work done and I'm still very happy on the progress being made. I decided that I would focus a bit more on some back-end stuff so I don't have much to show sadly. However, my main focus at the moment is tweaking up some older levels, planning out new levels, adding functionality (and flair) to the start menus and progress saving, and accessibility options! So all stuff that's either not fully finished or isn't too much fun to look at! My Bad!Public Playtest Request Announcement! So just to get right into it, You can now request access to an early, playtest version of Gappy's adventure! It's on the main storefront right now, all you do is click the button and you'll be put on the wait list! It's been on the page since I believe late December but I was waiting for the Bi-monthly post to really post anything major about it,...
